A beautiful paradox. The ceaseless, constant drive to understand,

Something that is inherently un-understandable, yet, still, we continue to try to understand. (Quote - William Rowlandson)

It’s much like that saying, that curiosity killed the cat,

Demonstrating observation is entangled with the outcome to this or to that.

It’s as if our perception plays a critical part in devising what will happen,

As if we’re entwined with the fabric of reality, that vastly intricate pattern.

To be honest with you, I have a very limited knowledge of quantum physics,

But there are many people I detest, who have spun this idea into money-making gimmicks.

I think that mathematics is trying to tell us that everything is intrinsically interconnected,

What I’ve taken from this is to love all things, which I had previously neglected.

Such as the food we eat and the day-to-day people we greet,

The sun’s heat and the ground on which we lay our feet.

We see the physical as separate from ourselves, which has led to exploitation,

But currently the formulations are showing us mind-bogglingly beautiful equations.

Expanding and evolving our consciousness to reverse the planetary-destructive situation,

I feel like I am surrounded by a narcissistic generation,

Who thrive on taking selfie’s and not giving any contemplation,

As to how this will affect them and their lives, it’s giving me frustration,

Are we beings who see objects and “likes” as a source of gratification?

We forget we are billions of atoms hanging from earth relying on gravity,

“I’ve got 100 likes on my picture,” that dopamine release, we love the popularity.

We live our lives sharing and projecting to others our online personality,

Thinking that people’s likes, shares and comments will provide us with some clarity.

That we’re heading down the right path, or that our lives are going well,

“Check out what I’m doing, look at me” When really I’m a soul encased in a shell.

I think that for a lot of people this will definitely hit a nerve,

They may want to fight back and tell me this poem is atrocious and absurd.

But I hope I stand corrected, and that this generation proves me that I’m wrong,

And that this ridiculous destructive social media madness doesn’t continue along.

We can continue to help to fuel it, join in and be part of the egotistical circus,

Or strip ourselves of what others think of us and chuck that vanity into the furnace.

So we can begin to use this powerful tool for the planet, I think it has a purpose.
