I can't overestimate the importance of accepting ourselves exactly as we are right now, not as we wish we were or how we ought to be.

No matter what identity we cling to, it takes great courage to step out of the old masks we wear and the old scripts that we live by, and open ourselves to the mysterious inner core of our being.

“Now I become myself. It’s taken Time, many years and places;”

Allow yourself to sit quietly, with mindfulness and concentration. Allow your breath to follow its natural rhythm. Enjoy your in-breath and out-breath. Don't strive; relaxation will come. When you are completely relaxed, healing takes place on its own. As we sit, we may become aware that outside, up in the sky, there are so many stars. We may not be able to see them, but they are there nevertheless. We are sitting on an amazingly beautiful planet, which is revolving in our galaxy, the Milky Way, a river with trillions of stars. If we can have this awareness when we sit, what else do we need to sit for? We clearly see the wonders of the universe and our planet Earth.

I looked like exactly what I was. A woman who should be dead from grief and rage but wasn’t. A woman whose formidable intelligence and creativity were just getting born, only she had no fucking idea what to do with them.
