Diary of a Work-from-home Dad (Chapter 2) 2.10 “The Book of Zayra” At long last Zayra's side of her story is told. We realised that we eventually would have to explain to our eldest that she may not have a "normal" relationship with her baby sister... Something we've been putting off for a while.
This all happened during the pandemic lockdown, and we were struggling to maintain sanity while still figuring out how to effectively manage Dalya day-to-day at the new old place.
Looking back, Zayra grew up... Neglected (which we always feel guilty of, even if it was not on purpose). By the time Dalya sleeps we're too exhausted to give enough love to our firstborn.
"Please don't forget to take care of me too."
Those words came out of our eldest's mouth that I never could forget. It was a wake-up call to not let her grow up to be a glass child. That no matter how much we felt like we were pulled in all directions, we had to become stronger to shower her with the love and care she deserves. It showed us that she had become aware, and it marked the moment we started to let her in on the condition her baby sister is born with.
