Jealous???

I’d always felt a little out of place—too emotional, too analytical, too “much”— and I desperately craved approval from those around me, which is something I rarely got for doing anything that actually made me happy. I twisted myself into this person who I knew others would like on the surface, but it was never long before they saw glimpses of the real me—someone “strange,” “awkward,” and “silly”— and I would quickly retreat. I walked through life as a spectator.

When the word “witch” clicked with me, it was seemingly out of the blue. It was one of the darkest times in my life, and I was looking for anything but a title that would make others tilt their head at me. However, I felt so comforted by that word—by the craft as a whole—and I decided to go forth in my practice as a witch rather than a dabbler or a hobbyist. As my practice developed, I gained a newfound confidence I didn’t know was possible for me.

I trusted myself. I trusted my craft. I trusted my experience. And I stopped caring what everyone thought of me all of the time and started caring about what I thought of myself. And I soon found that living authentically draws in the kind of people that you actually want to be around—people who are interested in your thoughts and experiences even when they differ from their own.
