Daisy
Daisy, oh Daisy, a sigh of sunlight,
Your name melts like honey,
Yet stings as it lingers.
Dear sister, Daisy, what is it about you that Iβll never possess?
Is it the peak of sunlight in your hair,
The crown of gold you carry like itβs nothing.
Daisy, you canβt see it, can you?
How I press your leaves between the pages of envy
As I collect your petals in a jar of thorns,
As I blow into a dandelion, wishing to bloom as brightly as you
Perhaps one day youβll glimpse it,
The emerald flame in my stare
Lit by the cruel innocence of your bloom.
The halo you never asked for, yet wear so nicely.
Daisy, oh, Daisy, you're a scream,
And I'm but a whisper,
One who gathers stardust in your wake
One to watch you shine,
Choking on the smoke of your spotlight.
Daisy, what are you made of?
Is it angel dust or the bones of those who clapped too long?
Those like me, who choked on your petals and fed on your pollen.
Because, Daisy, I want to steal your perfume
And swim in a pool of it
Cause maybe then, I'd catch a glimpse of your shine and not burn
Daisy, oh, Daisy, my friends tell me you're the sweetest candy,
But Daisy, your sweetness is starting to turn to poison in me.
Gnawing at my insides with the teeth of your lush white petals
Daisy, oh, Daisy, don't you see the way your light makes mine
a shy firefly in the glare of the sun?
Daisy, canβt you see how your bloom outshines mine, a mere Thale cress?
How jealousy darkens my veins
A bitter cocktail.
So I learn to dance with the ache of your bloom
The loving rival,
The flower I'll never grow to be.
