when I got off the airplane I had one board, one friend in the entire country, and one plan. fast-forward to four months later and I’ve managed to add two more boards to the gang, encounter so many incredible people, and find a way to stay here for another few months! I’ve lived in different spots up and down the coast, but some of the moments I’ve missed the most have been our little cabin in the middle of the jungle with the little brown monkeys with mischievous grins peeking down at us from the trees, the raccoons that waged war with us each night after our security pup moved away, and the endless barba-koa burritos and brownies from Jalapeño after long surf sessions without nearly enough sunscreen. what I’ve learned is that success and learning are not simply measured by grades or numbers or the amount of stress you put yourself under to excel, but rather the growth of your freedom and your experience of joy. do what your heart tells you to do and the rest will follow!

an eggy disaster: Spanish tortilla edition also! funny story — when I was working at a surf camp in Nicaragua, I used to always say “me siento cómo un huevo!” and people would think I was hilarious, while I was confused because I thought I was just telling them I felt like an egg. apparently, huevo can also mean “balls” or “testicles.” so whenever I dragged myself back from the beach after a long day of being destroyed by the ocean and I loudly proclaimed “ME SIENTO CÓMO UN HUEVO,” I was saying, “I FEEL LIKE BALLS.” both were true, though.

life is all about being SILLY

sooooo quick update: I’m in El Salvador right now! adventuring around with my chicks for the next few days and then I hop back on a plane to Costa Rica because... I’m staying until January! because I was ahead and could graduate early, I decided I might as well stay a few extra months and soak up as many waves as possible before I’m back in chilly California waters!

every day is hammock day in Central America. it’s wonderful how time just slooooooows down here. I mean, I already feel like a sloth in my everyday life, but Ticos have shown me a new way of living — slower! :)

the girls are going on the road!! sara, chelsea, and I are hitting the (wonderfully? horribly?) dirt paths of Costa Rica to say hello to the rest of the coast and explore some new sights! more updates to come! first stop — the tourist trap named Tamarindo! (but also home to the best Italian restaurant I’ve come across in this country and the cheapest nightlife! it’s ladies night! ... every night)
