I have to admit, I have seen lots of skateboarding videos. However, I have never seen one like this. As skateboarders, we avoid the rain at all costs. Phil took quite the opposite approach for this project and filmed entirely in the rain or at least on wet surfaces. Each trick he performs has the possibility of terrible results. I really liked this video for the aesthetics as well. I appreciate the thought and efforts that go into videos like this because each clip is so cohesive with the overall vision of the finished product.

At the time, nobody realized this was a farewell video for Shane as he was about to part ways with Skate Mental. This part had such a good balance of rail tricks, ledge tricks, and tricks down stairs.  I remember my jaw literally dropping at the opening trick. Wallenberg being such an iconic skate spot and notoriously known for being a demon to tackle, and then Shane goes and throws such a hard trick down it. He made it look all too easy. Not to mention, the switch flip down the triple set in the rain was a thing of beauty. Only Shane can make a part that consists of mind melting tricks as well as take a fairly straight forward trick and make it way more gnarly than necessary. There's something about the way he does tricks that it just looks right. Any footage from him is pure gold.

When I first heard of this project that Torey was working on, a part focusing on one type of obstacle, I thought to myself, “If there is one person that could make it rad, it would be him.” A big reason why I enjoy watching skate videos is because you never know what to expect. What is coming next? A line? A stair set? A rail? The idea of taking that element out of a video and spoiling the surprise, so to speak, of what’s coming next was risky. However, Torey did not disappoint. He managed to keep my interest the whole time. Torey even reached out to his fans through social media to track certain spots down for this part. His skating truly is a kind of it’s own and every part he puts out seems to be just as impressive as the last.
