Nathan’s tried every technique under the sun to varying degrees of success. Counting doesn’t do shit. He tries because it’s what people always tell him to do, but he can never stay focused on the numbers when adrenaline is wreaking havoc on him. Talking himself down is effective sometimes. It helps him work through whatever is overwhelming him, but he can’t just start talking to himself when other people are around so it’s a limited coping technique. Usually he does whatever he can to just get the fucking adrenaline OUT! He always feels like he’s about to come out of his skin, and adrenaline just makes that feeling a hundred times worse. The easiest thing to make the sensation stop is usually to yell or hit something. Sometimes both.
