The company I work for decided they wanted to produce their own E-Magazine. Being the lead designer, I was put in charge of not only designing the magazine itself but all the necessary media kits, take sheets, and launch announcement. The person in charge of getting people to advertise in the magazine needed everything done ASAP, but hadn’t provided me with the necessary copy for the take sheet or media kit, so I dropped in Latin in as a placeholder.

We proofed the pieces in-house and she made minor revisions to the design. Then one day I receive revisions from an outside source. We had selected someone in the company (outside our department) to review the material. His only suggestion was to not include Latin in the design, since it is a dead language.

I went to the sales person and asked why she sent it out before I had the necessary copy.

Sales Person: I didn’t send you copy because I thought it was already in it. I am not a designer, I didn’t realize that Latin was used as placeholder text, I thought it was just some fancy way to do the copy.
