Create a plan for removing marking and standardized tests (met)

Over the next ten years, we will continually hold meeting with government officials and boards of education to discuss as a team what the best possibilities are for the grading system. Whether it be eradication or a new way to go about it all. Together, we will bring our best ideas to the table and make the change that is happening, final.

Parents conferences run by Change My Grades try to model the proper parent behaviour when it comes to students bringing home marks. These parents will see what the professionals do, model it to their children, their children will begin to model what their parents present to them with the situation of grading. This will cause a positive chain reaction of good behaviour, that everyone can feel good about because they were taught that this new method is the right compared to the old, which is the wrong.

Our Parent Conferences have been going very well! We have been able to shed some light on the problems with grades and how to help the GTA parents with defending their students against the consequences of the marking system.

For many families, the grade is the goal. But what do those letters really mean? And do they really do any good? (page 2)

Connection to Change My Grades: Some children who have turned to delinquency will feel connected to the Change My Grades social movement. Students feel it as a necessity to get attention from adults. If some students can not achieve that attention from getting good or perfect grades, they will try a different approach. These students may turn to crime, it will not get them good attention but it will get them something from adults. Adults will often label children with bad marks as "bad kids" and children feel the need to match their labels and try to do so. The "bad kids" with bad grades will try to change themselves into a bad kid to fulfill that need for attention and reach what adults say they are. This can result in delinquency, which would be a normal response according to the Structure- Strain Theory. Because these students never actually wanted to turn to crime, they will feel like they were done an injustice by being labeled as bad children when it was adults who told them they had to be the bad apple according to their grades. These current or previous delinquents, will join Change My Grades to explain their grievance.

Connection to Change My Grades: Current and past students who have anxiety over school (tests, assignments, etc) will usually have it stem from the question, "What if I do bad?" which can easily translate into, "What if I get a bad mark?" because when students talk about good or bad they talk about the grade given at the end. Within the classroom, only a select few students will have anxiety over every test, quiz, and assignment. That makes them feel isolated, they aren't part of the vast majority within the classroom. These past and current students, want to be like the vast majority and be a part of group of people with the same problem as them. Change My Grades is a way to find that feeling of empowerment that these people would otherwise not receive. It would give these adults, young adults, and adolescents the chance to be with others who have the same grievance. That feeling of belonging these isolated individuals would otherwise not experience, is given to them by the Change My Grades social movement.

How to break bad habits of parenting and grades.

Connection to Change My Grades: There are adults and young adults who feel like they had a very bad experience with education. The education system tries but ultimately fails those who need a different approach to learning. These "failed" students often know that they could have done better were they given another chance. School is not a positive place to be if you put it in all the effort for those good marks, but come out with C's. Because, marks are directly connected to self-esteem, these students may have been miserable in class. This would result in them looking back at school as a negative place. That feeling of negativity, is put towards trying to get justice for the new generation of students. These people who were deprived of a good time at school because of the grading system, will find Change My Grades as a way to end their grievance (the bad experience), by having professionals tell them the way marking is done is not the best option for all students, and help the new students who will end up facing the same problem as them. Therefore, according to the Deprivation Theory, Change My Grades is relevant to those feeling as if they have been deprived of something others had, a good experience at school.
