He smiles broadly before answering, remembering his pets from home. “I like rabbits. I had a pet one and I used to feed it thistles and carrots. It was a white one, and my mother let me call it Snowy.”

"Have you got money?" Percival's eyebrows furrow slightly as he tries to interpret exactly what it meant.

//don't yell at me 

"I -" Percival stops to think for a moment, his face going red with slight annoyance. "I don’t like them much myself either."

"Every Sunday after we went to church and had morning tea, my brothers and sisters and I would each get a handful of sweets from the sweets store down the road. Mama was always home, but Papa was usually away. I don't see him very much."

"I don't remember," Percival mutters. His eyebrows furrow in concentration as he tries to recall his address, hazy in his mind. 

He folds his arms again indignantly, scowling slightly. "I don't want to cry. I'm not a baby anymore!"

"Is that s'posed to be a nice thing?" 

Percival puffs his cheeks slightly in embarrassment, crossing his arms unknowingly. "There is a beastie! I saw it in the trees!"

"I don’t like the feeling of sand in between my toes. It feels yucky," Percival scrunches up his nose, remembering the feel of it.

Percival sighs loudly, desperately wanting candy now. “My favourite are peppermints!”
