Syrax was a she-dragon who was ridden solely by Rhaenyra Targaryen. She was adorned with golden yellow scales as well as being huge and formidable but not as fearsome or experienced in battle as Caraxes. Rhaenyra first took Syrax as a mount in 104 AC, when the princess was seven years old. She was described as a young dragon at the time and Rhaenyra named her after a Valyrian goddess strongly implying that she had no previous rider. Syrax also laid several clutches of eggs during the reign of King Viserys I. Her latest clutch was produced just prior to the civil war, one of which was given to Lady Rhaena Targaryen (Rhaenyra’s step-daughter). It is somewhat implied that the dragons of Rhaenyra’s sons all hatched from eggs laid by Syrax, though the only definitive information about any dragon parentage comes from Rhaena’s dragon Morning. Following a difficult stillbirth at the beginning of the war, Rhaenyra recovered enough strength to fly on Syrax, along with her other dragonriders who then headed to King’s Landing.

the only reason they murdered otto was because of everything that he did. i’m fucking SICK we must overthrow the system of corruption that silences evil viziers !
Meleys, called the Red Queen, was a she-dragon of House Targaryen, first claimed by Princess Alyssa and then by her niece, Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, the Queen Who Never Was. Her scales were scarlet red, and the membranes of her wings pink.
one thing i think is important to point out re: ai is that we unfortunately do not have reliable tools to detect ai writing reliably. most "ai detection" tools are themselves powered by llms and are thus extremely fallible. this is partially why critical reading and digital literacies are such important tools in our current information landscape. we have to learn to question what we read, why someone might have written or created it, and what that writing is trying to do. being duped by ai writing is no one's fault. as a matter of fact, i think it reflects the need for solidarity and sharing knowledge with others even more.

More proper explanation for anon of why this video is very very wrong:
First, this person offers to analyze people's real lives and I suspect she's a scummy MLM "life coach" or something. I'm not looking into it, watching this video was more than enough.
"No one ever discuses why this was done" (Darcy breaking up Jane and Bingley) - it is discussed in depth actually
She dismisses the reasons stated in Darcy's letter as false. She says Darcy was lying about Jane not liking Bingley because the whole town is expecting the marriage. This is true, but it says nothing about Jane's affections. The town, and especially Mrs. Bennet, wanting the marriage to happen is because of the wealth and connections associated with the match, not because of Jane's affections. Jane could be a gold digger being pushed by her family, which is something Darcy is definitely worried about.
She believes that Darcy is jealous that Bingley's relationship with Jane is going well and that Jane shows affection for Bingley, and that if Elizabeth had shown half as much love for himself, "he would have proposed much sooner." This ignores Darcy's actual thoughts in Meryton. Darcy does not want to love Elizabeth, he sees the marriage as beneath him, so no, he doesn't want Elizabeth to love him. He wouldn't have proposed sooner. He takes FOREVER to propose because he's trying to stop himself! He wants to do his duty and marry within his family's expectations but his love for Elizabeth is ruining his plans. So the entire premise of this video is invalid.
Next, she says Darcy is being mean by dismissing the depth of Bingley's love for Jane. Now I'll admit, he's very dismissive of their relationship in his letter, but it does seem that Bingley has a pattern of falling in love quickly. And Darcy then says that Bingley loved Jane more than he'd seen him in love before, which the video maker quotes, so what is this point? She just refuted her own argument.
Next, she argues that Darcy was going to forbid Elizabeth from ever seeing her family again but if Bingley married Jane then he cannot isolate Elizabeth as completely as he wants to. Which is... these arguments are so absurd it's hard to even argue against them. No? That's not a thing. I'm sure Darcy hopes to see little of the Bennets but this isn't some sneaky plan. And he can easily cut off Bingley if that was a worry (not that it was, but we know Darcy forbids Wickham to come to Pemperley, he can do that).
Darcy is so conceited he wants his own secret treasure? So Bingley having Jane makes him feel insecure? WTF
Now she's arguing that Darcy doesn't actually like to hang out with his equals or superiors because he's with Col. Fitzwilliam instead of the future earl cousin. K. Because he wants to be worshipped by everyone. Right. Sounds like Darcy to me. The guy who fell in love with the girl who didn't flatter him want to be worshipped 24/7. HE WOULD BE MARRIED TO CAROLINE ALREADY. She worships.
Darcy actually thinks Elizabeth likes him, which is important to the argument in this video. He's not "projecting".
Now she's arguing that Darcy would have married Elizabeth while "Bingley was out of the country" and then dropped the friendship altogether so Bingley wouldn't mess with them? Because he doesn't want to admit he was wrong about Jane and Bingley.... okay. No. And he's threatened by Jane and Bingley being in love. No. Like there is just no evidence for this so I'm not even going to argue back.
She dismisses this line as a lie:
“Indeed I had. What will you think of my vanity? I believed you to be wishing, expecting my addresses.”
“My manners must have been in fault, but not intentionally, I assure you. I never meant to deceive you, but my spirits might often lead me wrong. How you must have hated me after that evening!”
It's not a lie or projection. Sorry. Yes, her family knows she hates him as does Charlotte, but she's not outwardly rude in public because she has manners (unlike her mother for example).
She says Darcy hates Bingley because Bingley has better social skills that Darcy can't obtain. Darcy wants to watch Bingley suffer and he'll glory in it. Sure. It's not like Darcy thought his behaviour was perfectly fine until Elizabeth called him out or anything.
Okay, I feel gross having watched that entire video. I need a shower. This is just like, Tiktoc psychobabble and has nothing to do with the historical context or intentions of the characters portrayed. Darcy wasn't jealous of Bingley, a part of him was biased and wanted Bingley to marry Georgiana, but a bigger part was genuinely worried that Jane didn't love Bingley and he was going to be trapped in a loveless marriage pushed by Mrs. Bennet. We know Jane was very modest and her true feelings were hard to see, even Elizabeth admits this. Darcy was not lying about his objections to both his and Bingley's marriage, these were important things to him.
This Darcy is an inhuman monster who delights in the pain of his "friends", Jane Austen's Darcy isn't.
@bennetsbonnet I'm going to tag you in case you want to share in some rage
I am as angry as Mr Bingley when the Meryton Assembly closed so early. You are a stronger person than me for subjecting yourself to that!
Mr Darcy has plenty of flaws. Why do people feel the need to look for new ones, instead of discussing those that are there?
This entire argument is ridiculous. If I was to be charitable I'd say they are earnestly trying to look for something new in the text but lack the analytical skills necessary. But judging by the thumbnail/comment about Bingley having 'better social skills' ... I suspect it's a result of the 2005 adaptation rather than an actual close reading of the text.
Plus she reminds me of Catherine Morland a little bit, perhaps she's been reading too much gothic lit and it convinced her to project some of the villains' traits onto Darcy as Catherine did with General Tilney, because Darcy wanting Elizabeth as 'his own secret treasure' and proposing when Bingley is out of the country is veeeeery gothic!!
The point about how Darcy would have proposed sooner if Elizabeth had shown as much affection as Jane did for Bingley is so funny because Jane doesn't show all that much affection and Elizabeth shows none (but Darcy's pride makes him think that she does). Jane not showing that affection is so important for the plot because that is what Darcy & co. are able to latch onto and convince him to stay in town. Jane showing affection would make Bingley seem a lot more gullible and a lot less sympathetic if he actually was able to be so easily convinced away from a woman who clearly loved him. Likewise Elizabeth showing no affection beyond basic politeness is key because it shows the depth of Darcy's arrogance and is what leads to his terrible first proposal.
A key point of Jane's lack of emotion is that Austen was poking fun at how women were supposed to act during a courtship. Clearly some of that context has been lost on modern audiences. Women were in the impossible position of not being able to show too much emotion (lest they be desperate/presumptuous/wanton) but also not showing too little that they'd come off as a frigid bore and dissuade potential suitors. They had to get it just right, which naturally is impossible! The dating scene is bad enough anyway nowadays... but imagine if you could never outright even hint to anyone that you liked them or tell them directly you weren't interested for fear of gaining a bad reputation of being overly rude.
Saying Darcy is jealous of anyone is hilarious anyway but accusing him of feeling that way about Bingley?? Wrong for many reasons including their respective situations of respectable established family with prestigious (even noble) lineage vs 'new' money from trade and not even an estate of their own! But the social skills one in particular is so frustrating because the whole point is that Darcy has them too, he just learns to stop being a snob and applying them selectively to people he deems worthy.
As with the 'Darcy was just autistic/socially anxious!!' crowd, I don't think this person appreciates how awful the ending of the novel would be for Jane and Elizabeth if Darcy being motivated by jealousy was true. Poor Jane would have to put up with the sister she adores marrying the man who cruelly separated her from the love of her life for genuinely nefarious reasons, rather than for the misguided, but kind of understandable in the context, reasons that Darcy's actions are actually based on.
Darcy did have his reasons for acting as he did, he apologises for getting it wrong, Bingley forgives him and Darcy is delighted by their engagement. It's clear they'll all share happy lives together, rather than whatever this kind of horror story implies for their futures.
I love Pride and Prejudice for so many reasons... but I do find the escapism it provides incredibly appealing, especially given the current state of the world. In a deeply sick society, filled with violent misogyny which is amplified by social media, I think we all need a distraction from that... and I do find that comforting escapism in the hero's reformation.
Mr Darcy doesn't cruelly lash out at the woman who rejects him. He is angry in the moment, to be sure, and the letter he writes in response is bitter in places... but he goes away to reflect and realises that, actually, Elizabeth was right, his behaviour has been worthy of her rebuke... so, he changes, and not just superficially (as proved by how he is determined to keep his part in 'rescuing' Lydia a secret) but on a far deeper level. Elizabeth's rejection causes Darcy to earnestly reflect upon how wrong he has been all his life. She shatters his delusion that he is perfect and illuminates his flaws for the first time.
What's more, he still doesn't expect anything in return for improving himself. In fact, before he makes another proposal, he makes it clear he will shut up and go away forever if Elizabeth says a single word: 'No.'
Mr Darcy's character arc is the perfect antidote to the manosphere and all of the terrifying hatred it encourages. It's just a shame that he's a fictional character from a 213 year old novel... and that men do not tend to respond with such grace when they are rejected...
