What are Bitcoins?

Digital currency. Another sign of the times. 

Bitcoins are in fact a thing. You may not be able to use them to pay your mortgage or send your kids to college but people are using real dollars to cash in on this new type of currency all over the world. 

In fact, ATMs are beginning to be deployed from Cyprus to Los Angeles and are now taking your cash in exchange for some bitcoins. Though this currency has not hit the mainstream, there are some peer-to-peer online communities that are using bitcoins to purchase goods and services ranging from art, food, clothing and porn. 

In trend to the shared collaborative economy, where bartering, swapping and renting puts less value on the tangible dollar, if this new form of exchange  develops, it will demand solutions regarding security, regulation, citizenship and taxation from a new world marketplace.
