These two dissapointed me. but this little guy? Perfect.
yes I made a beeline to get @wessaramics stuff at the Kingsmill Studio as soon as I hit Granville Island. yes I did want to get multiple little kitties but held myself back somehow. yes I absolutely had to get this scunched little guy
bonus with Da Babies (who went back to sleep immediately after I rudely bothered them)
😸✨️! Hell yeah! Wimdy cats big adventure
The tumbler is also a hand illustrated one, which I rarely do anymore, because I moved to using custom made silkscreen transfers a few years back. Sometimes I still decorate these pieces with my trusty underglaze fineliner, as a treat to myself!

Here's some really crunchy underfired pieces from a kiln mishap! Theyre going back in the kiln today to hopefully become beautiful functional forms.

Salt shakers ✨️ or maybe... smoked paprika
Pleaaaaaaase tell me there's a way I can purchase some ceramic trans kitties 🥹😭💕 I see the buying five lil kitties option on your shop but I would loveeee a little top surgery scar kittie 🥹 if they are just a one off then that's totally okay but I love them SO MUUCHHHHH and they spark so much joy in me, so thank you for just making them and gracing my dash with them <3333
Omg I have a bunch of trans cat necklaces I made with friends! I have them available at my studio and I send the proceeds to local trans nonprofits/mutual aid. I should pop some into my next website restock, thank you for the reminder!
😭 this is my full time job?

I do tend to be suspicious of art that really lauds and worships the idea of being an artist. Like yes, art is cool, I think it's valuable, there's a reason I make it. But let's not get overly self congratulatory here
Actually I'm running this back, because I've refined my thoughts more. By that same token, I'm also suspicious when people say they are "grateful" to be an artist, like they were chosen or something. But more to the point, it reminds me how the animation and games industries are two of the most exploitative industries out there. They really take advantage of the double whammy of "you're living your dream right now!" and "aren't you grateful? At least you're not stuck flipping burgers." And then inevitably you get this cadre of young talented 20 somethings who burn themselves out because *they* got an opportunity no one else got and they have to make up for it by being better, by being *geniuses*, and when they fail it's crushing.
Art rules. I think it's great. But also sometimes I think it would be better if it was treated less like a passion and more like a job
Your dreams are valuable. Don't let them become a trap

Your handles are so chunky these days. What inspired the change?
Me big hands 🫠
Naw, I haven't really made a big intentional change, I've been just seeing what feels good for me to hold and what I like with the shape of the cup.
A couple times in the past, I've gotten feedback that when I have too-thin handles on my cylinder or stein shaped mugs, they dont really match the big mug. It felt fragile to hold such a big amount of liquid with a thin handle. I do wonder if that's part of why I've been leaning chunkier these days.
But now I'll be revisiting handles when I make my next batch! I have a semi private studio most of the time so miss the chance to talk form and vessel with people, it can be lonely making 60 mugs with only podcasts as company, ahah 😅 It's also easy to fall into habits as a maker and mug handles can really change the experience of using the mug.
I did recently make a series of different small espresso mug shapes with thin, delicate handles that I really enjoyed making. I think its time to get back to the realm of research and development!
Thanks so much for the question, I appreciate it!
(Also, about the hands thing, on testosterone my hands have gotten more chunky and wide which has been frustrating when trying to throw mugs, they keep ending up wider than I want since my hands are no longer the shape they used to be! It happens when you get older too but it's been relatively fast change and its such a silly problem to have. Ill get used to it though!)
