His actor has millions of followers, mainly because of his character. Bucky has over one hundred thousand fics (not including the ones on platforms like Tumblr or Wattpad) hundreds of YouTube edits, an entire fucking fandom devoted to him.

It’s interesting because most would say that compared to say, Steve Rogers or Peter Parker, he doesn’t have as enough clout, but let me just paint the picture for you...

Bucky Barnes has over 100k fanfics, millions of fans, hundreds of edits and fan art, a prominent and huge fanbase...all this and:

• He has only ever said 130 words in the entire fucking MCU.

• He has never had more than 40 minutes of screen time in a 20+ movie franchise, and half of that screen time he didn’t even talk.

Honesty if that doesn’t just show how powerful and amazing this character is, then I don’t know what to tell ya.

“Does that mean we finally have an off day?” He asked the next day at noon with his morning hair in his grey sweatpants. “Yep, but also that we need to help in Brooklyn a bit so we have both in check. Wanna dance?” He grinned. “I’ve never been asked for it before, so I’d say yes.” You flirted back. “What a shame,” he said pulling you closer. “Friday? Can you put on slow music?” You asked the AI. Calm music started playing and he started swaying you around in a slow dance. The softness his eyes carried was incredible, nowhere near what it was in the beginning of you two working together. You started smiling and got a smile back. His left hand squeezed your waist and he eyed you for a little longer, now having the permission to. You let your hands wander to his neck, letting him lead you a little more. The small movements of his lips and the sparkles in his eyes were so apparent all of a sudden.

On your last sick day you got the message that the west side of Brooklyn is safe for the most part. The bridge between the fully hazardous Staten Island and Brooklyn was being downed and you felt those explosions while sitting on the deck of the tower. Magnolia had worked towards the Bronx in the previous 4 days. The rest of New York City had caught up with the work of Bucky and you. You knew that the Randalls Island mission was close and knowing that, you got in a good workout at the end of the day and cleaned all your weapons. Your first day was slow but productive. You walked to the settlement together, the street was cleared, the entrances to the side streets mostly closed down with cars and trucks, two guards on the ones that had openings. Seeing the settlement from afar surprised you. More platforms, more people. more plants and more lights surrounding it. You entered the library in awe. Better blankets, new pillows, a bigger stash of weapons and ammunition and on the roof there were tons of plants being planted. “Hey, Agent.” Captain Davis walked towards you with a happy face. “Nice little garden you have there, Davis.” You smiled up at him. “Thanks to you two.” He looked at both of you and you looked at Bucky that had a big proud smile on his face. “Then let’s go through a good high-rise building. Get some more food and crafting material.” You smile at Richard. “Sounds great. Give us 30 minutes.”

The day after your little movie night was spent with taking down bases in the Central Park Zoo and the Bethesda Fountain. Being on equal ground with the enemies was making it a little bit harder but the civilians actually were pretty good at that after patrolling for weeks now. Some of the animals were roaming free in the zoo, some were still happily in their areas and some starved to death. The moment you personally lost it was when you found a wild cat that was shot to death. “God, what does an almost extinct animal have to do with fucking humanity going down the drain. Bastards!” You growled before sitting down in front of it, petting the poor soul. “Eda? Can you send Helen a message asking what to do with this one? Burying or freezing for DNA?” You mumbled into the watch. “And find out its name.” Bucky said behind you before squatting next to you, watching your sad expression at the poor animal. “Her name was Sophia.” Came back after a short search of the device. “Hope you took some of them with you into the death, Sophia,” you said feeling the soft fur. “Dr. Cho answered with burying.” Eda answered to the earlier question. “Need my help moving the poor thing?” Captain Davis called out moving towards you two. “Yeah.” you mumbled. “‘cmere. Gonna give her a nice goodbye.” Bucky told you softly while helping you up again. Fueled by the hate of this incident you walked to the second base, taking it down and coming back to spend the rest of the day burying animals and decontaminating areas of the zoo.

You’d been walking for about half a block when you were yanked towards a bus to hide behind. “There’s five of them, northeast,” he whispered and got the AR off his back. You scanned the area, “It’s not five. It’s 8, great,” you mumbled. “I go left, you go right,” he ordered and after a little countdown by hand you slowly sneaked your way from car to car until you were both close enough. You took the safety off two pistols before looking over and nodding. Both of you came out of your covers in perfect sync, killing 5 of them instantly. Three of them run to get cover and you ran EADA again to know where all of them were exactly. An easier thing to do if you had those damn contact lenses. “Damn agents!” One of them yelled. “Shut up, whiny baby,” you yelled back, getting out of cover in time to land a perfect headshot. “The Vultures will come for you, bitch!” Another one yelled. “Sorry, can’t hear you over how good I’ll land a headshot on you.” You smirked and landed the next one in sync with Bucky. “Don’t call my partner a bitch,” he said before walking to the cover of the last one, grabbing him with his metal arm and holding him up. “Help us or die,” he growled up at the young man. “No,” he croaked before going unconscious and being thrown onto the floor and hit in the heart by another shot. “I see, you like a little bit of the drama too.” You chuckled before helping him search through their weapons and ammunition. “Always.” He grinned over, picking up a few cartridges of ammo and chugging them into his bag on the back of his tactical belt. “Let’s get going then. We need to get to a safe house today.” You smiled and cut the dog tags off the dead bodies that had them. His brow went up, “Wanna count how many people betrayed their country. And maybe these come in handy if they have a boss that actually cares about them.” “Forget it, only psychopaths would start something like this.” He kicked the man that had insulted her earlier. It seemed to really annoy him. Maybe it was just his 40s brain that wanted the respect for a woman, cause he definitely had a foul mouth in the army and didn’t expect her to not curse like a sailor. He actually was kinda excited about that part for some reason.

You took off the safety from your weapon in the same moment as Bucky and shot up to shoot two of them in the torso. Meanwhile Bucky shot the man that had just foreshadowed his own death right in the head. “Who are you?” You growled at one of the guys you shot. He was already laying on the ground. “The Eagles,” he croaked before going unconscious. You looked up at Bucky, “A gang,” you mumbled before taking the box of ammo and taking it towards the entrance of the tower. The super soldier was watching your back while you gave your authentication to the tower security system. “Access granted. Welcome, Agent Andromeda. Welcome, Sergeant Barnes.” The voice rang out. “Was anyone here in the last 8 weeks?” You asked the system immediately. “No, lockdown protocol has been in place until now.” Came back at you both while the door closed behind you. “Good,” you muttered, putting your weapon away. “Elevators,” he said behind you as you set down the box of ammo.

My honest words in those situations: “I want to see all of you … I want to touch all of you … You look beautiful.”

For me, this seems natural: it’s your lover, and you ought to adore them. But in each of those moments of self-consciousness I learned something, I hope, about the psychological scars we carry from a lifetime of internalizing others’ judgments to the point that we judge ourselves most harshly of all. And women get it the *worst*, especially when it comes to body image, because of deeply fucked-up standards in our society.
