Miles Morales

I was just looking at my watch —“ Tim apologizes, and realizes maybe he should leave the messages for later. “Let me buy you a soda or something to apologize.” He drops his arm to his side, flashing a smile to the other boy. It was normal for a crowd this size, but he wanted to be polite anyway. [ @webheadjnr ]

Who had ever heard of doubles air hockey? Carol certainly hadn’t. She assumed it was one of those new games the kids kept coming up with to confused the elderly, and it was working. Now, the issue was she was stuck without a partner. Could she use her powers and cheat? Yes, but that would be unethical and give away her identity, Instead, she did what any logical person would do, shout at a stranger. “Hey kid, you got a sec? I need a partner here so these men don’t feel bad once I kick their asses. Whaddya say?”

   more often than not, nico can ignore his conscience.  it’s all but been drowned out with money and mimosas and whatever else it is that nico’s greedy little heart wants.  so – yeah, ordinarily ??  a crowd like this breaks out ??  with guns ??  nico’s gonna get the hell out of there.  ninety nine times out of a hundred, he’ll choose the safe route.  god only knows what tethers him to the scene this time.  

   ( maybe just a memory of someone who would have expected better of him, demanded better. )  he’s got a long, curved knife pulled and held loosely at his side just in case.  his eyes dart around.  “ there are kids here, ” he says, voice edged with distaste.  even someone like him has limits. “ what the hell are we supposed to do ?? ” he demands, slipping into a more-defensive stance as he watches one of the black-garbed ’ protestors ’ slowly approach.  nico eyes the gun warily.  he’s good, but he’s not bulletproof

“Man, that’s just rude.” Miles calls out, shooting a web at the barrel of the gun lest the attacker try and shoot. He thwips another web to grab the weapon, yanking it away entirely and sticking it up to the wall of a building so the police can grab it later. He knows, in the scheme of things, one gun isn’t going to turn the tide here but at least when he lands beside the protestor’s target, they’re both a tad safer. “Gun v knife? Not cool, dude. You really gotta work on your priorities.” He calls to the protestor who, thanks to the lost of his weapon, seems a little more hesitant to jump into the fray of all of this.

“Yeah, why not? Clearly you’ve got better suit decorating skills than me.” Peter gave an up and down hand motion at the other man’s suit. If there was one thing he had learned from the Avengers, it was that every person brought something to learn to the table.  It wasn’t always the most conventional thing you learnt, but it was always something.

“Sweet!” Peter was thrilled the other man agreed. “I don’t think I’ve ever swung with anyone, unless I was carrying them.” He could probably have asked MJ or maybe Gwen, but where was the fun in that. “I got bit 8 years ago, but I would only really say I’ve been active for 5. How about you. Oh, I’m Peter by the way.” His name was generic enough that no one would be able to find him from just a first name.

“You like my suit? I made it myself!” Miles says with a laugh. Okay so maybe this Peter isn’t so different - younger, sure, but not so different. He still seems like a good guy, still seems like he’d make a good Spider-Man, and that’s good enough for Miles. He’s still not sure there’s anything he could teach him, but he’s happy to stick around and find out.

Anthurium - Was your muse’s childhood characterized by abundance or scarcity (in needs, affection, friends, etc)? How does it play into your muse’s present behavior?

“You sound like you’ve been doing this for a while, man - uh, sir.” Some people just have that in their voice, Miles has learned. He’s still pretty new to this - a few years is nothing compared to some of the vigilantes out there. He gets the feeling this guy is no exception to that. “Just - seems like you’re talking from experience.”

“You know, you’re not the first person to tell me that.” Miles says with a sigh, holding a hand over the injury on his arm. It won’t take long to heal thanks to his abilities, and he really shouldn’t linger here anyway. “But I gotta get back out there, really. Maybe I can’t save everyone but I can save someone if I do what I’m supposed to do.”

“Uh - which part?” Miles asks, the lenses on his mask widening a little as he watches the man. He’s not used to people being so surprised by him - most people have a pretty good idea about Spider-Man these days. “I mean - I can’t be the first Spider-person you’ve seen, right? Or I am and you’re just not from around here?”

Mixed up with someone else? Realistically that didn’t seem possible, but none of what happened anymore seemed possible. Next thing Peter knew he would be going up into space to fight aliens. The Multi-verse was completely possible, just not well studied. 

“No, wait. You can stay. I’ve, uh, never met someone like me. Not exactly a ton of spiders just roaming around. Maybe I could learn a thing or two from you.” The more people to learn from the better. Peter knew some cool tricks, but he was always sure there were more to learn.

“You?” He asks, pointing at Peter, “Learn from me?” Miles continues in surprise, pointing at himself instead. The idea that Peter Parker, even an alternate version of Peter in another universe, could learn anything from Miles of all people seems completely impossible to him considering how good the Peters he met were at what they do.

Last time? What did that mean. Peter didn’t think he had ever met this man, but maybe he had. He could have lost some memories, completely possible. But that hadn’t happened anytime recently, not that he knew of. Then again, he wouldn’t really know if he lost his memory. The other guy did seem to know what he was doing, so he clearly had been a spider for a while.

“No, sorry, I don’t. I think I would remember meeting you.” Peter felt genuinely bad. If he really had met this person, he felt like he was letting them down. If he hadn’t, but they knew him somehow, he had no clue what he was going to do. Pretty much the only people who knew him were villains, but he didn’t sense any danger from the other guy, just that he was like him.

Miles can’t help but frown under his mask at Peter’s confusion, and it hits him - this isn’t the same Peter. That explains why he seems different - seems younger, not quite the same as the Peter who taught him to begin with. Which would make this guy the third Peter he’s met in his life which is.. weird to think about, but Miles files that away for another time. Right now, he needs to backtrack. Fast.

HE’S  TRYING .     he  knows  the  world’s  changing ,   and  these  stray  vigilantes  will  be  the  new  heroes — some  might  not  necessarily  agree  with  the  avengers ,   but  they’re  the  future .     it’s  what  he  does ;   invest  in  the  future —— in  kids ,   in  improvements ,   in  tech .     all  he  wants  is  to  leave  behind  a  legacy  once  he’s  gone .     ❝     course  i  do ,   kid .     ❞     there’s  something  about  these  spider - people ,   tony  muses .     their  hearts  are  too  soft ,   shoulders  so  burdened  by  a  world  that  takes  too  much   (  he’s  seen  it  in  peter ,   in  cindy ,   in  jess  ) .     ❝     well ,   to  a  certain  extent ,     ❞     he  amends ,   clearing  his  throat .     ❝     you’re  not  invincible ,   and  neither  is  the  city .     you  get  in  over  your  head ,   you  ask  for  help ,   got  it  ?     ❞
