Take What Is Ours [The Runaway Scamp/The Stormbreaker]

âYouâre going to poach her from me, are you?â
The calm amusement remained in Râkhanâs eyes, even as his crew barged in, chattering amongst themselves, and organised a team to lift the treasure out under the watchful eyes of Vilayn and Azareth. It could almost have been a coincidence that Râkhan waited until his first mate was at his shoulder to add,
âMistress Willa is sailing with me crew on a voluntary basis, thatâs correct. But if sheâs on my ship, sheâs my responsibility, and I ainât got no plans to lead her into danger. If she decides she wants to risk it, now thatâs her prerogative.â
âRelkhan?â
âMister Vilayn.â
âWeâve checked the wounded. Two killed in our crew, Mister Bendraal and Mistress Doleth, ordinary seamen. A few major injuries among the rest but nothing Rosie canât fix on those. Iâve ordered a pyre to be set up in the central courtyard for the casualties.â
âVery good. I will be with you presently.â As Vilayn hurried off again, his expression wooden, Râkhan nodded politely to Jocelyn. âShall we? We can continue our little discussion later.â
âPoach her from you?â She made a face as if the question had offended her. âIâm no fool, Râkhan. I know she wonât sail with me so long as you have Pretty Boy at your heel,â she motioned to Vilayn without shame or reservations. âMy concern is that she doesnât have the same protection as the rest of your crew who have signed your articles. At present, there really isnât anything preventing you from, say.. selling her or using her as a bargaining chip,â Jocelyn said, keeping her eyes on the two Dunmer as her expression hardened slightly.
âYou once told me you like gold and riches, so let me make myself inescapably clear. Selling Willa might make you filthy rich, but Iâll personally see to it that those will be the last septims your grubby little fingers will ever touch,â the captain stated, unflinching and unmoving, looking from Râkhan to Vilayn âWilla might be sailing with you on a voluntary basis, but you will treat her right or youâll have me to answe to, and that goes for both of you.â
Now that Jocelyn had said her piece she didnât wait around for either the captain nor the first mate to start and argument on the matter, and simply pushed past her men to get to the door.
