claws on the crown

‘don’t most women these days? shame it’s so tough to find a decent man out there,’ casper lamented in a semi-mocking tone. ‘my skills elsewhere? whatever do you mean?’

“ hi. “ indigo replied, finally looking up from the tabloids. “ oh nothing really, what about you? “

there’s a careless shrug, “nothing, clearly. looking for something to put me out of my boredom.”

          “ TAKING ‘PRINCESS’ OUT of your twitter username doesn’t really do much when all it takes is a simple google search for the westerly royal family to pop up, ” she said, a soft sigh escaping her lips. genevieve would have to change her name if she wanted to completely throw away the privileges - and disadvantages - that came with being royalty. it was something they could easily do for a night but lying about who you were only went well for so long. “ that doesn’t make it right, ” she pouted. “ it’s old fashioned and stupid. ”

          INTERESTING. HE SUPPOSED that was one way to describe him, though it wasn’t the descriptor he would’ve used. “ i’m not a very good conversationalist, ” he replied as he closed his book. “ but, i could use the break. ” admittedly, the lines of text had started blurring together fifteen minutes ago and he was tired of reading the same paragraph over and over.

          “ YOU’RE NOT WRONG, ” she shrugged. “ but it’s only because they’re jealous. and neither of us are going to get to the throne with our little brother in the way. ” she pursed her lips and stared out the window. “ too bad mom and dad won’t change the laws. it’s 2018, the crown should go to the first born, ” she crossed her arms, a pout on her lips.

           REID HAD BEEN diligently focusing on his schoolwork when out of the corner of his eye, he saw someone sit on his table and he raised his gaze to them, an amused smile forming on his lips. “ hello, ” he laughed. “ just studying. is there something i can help you with? ”

‘i appreciate the thought,’ alyssa smiled tightly. ‘that’s such a shame, but i guess i shouldn’t be surprised. everyone around here becomes so mellow at the start of the year, don’t they?’

she nods in agreement. “yeah, or they’re just zombie’d out by the fact that we’re back. what i wouldn’t give to be back at the palace bored out of my mind than sitting through another class.”

‘oh i’m never too busy for you, darling.’ casper chuckles, leaning back into his seat. ‘and if it’s good conversation you’re after, look no further. i have been told my conversational skills are among the best in the country.’

there’s a devilish grin as she can’t help but feel her ego be boosted. “i like when a man treats me like a princess,” she jokes. “is that so ?” genevieve asks, “and do your skills elsewhere have the same praise ?”

     a twisted smile curls her lips.   “   kill the fun.   “   she thought, snickering to herself, before it fades into a more grace filled smile.   ❛   depends on how you see the word fun, really.   ❜

‘it’s no big deal - just another hospital visit.’ she said with a shrug, not wanting to appear to shaken by the whole thing. ‘anyway, what’s been going on in my absence?’

“if you insist,” she shrugged, “but i’m around if you need to talk.” the redhead waves her off, “nothing too exciting. same old, same old, really. you’d hope that there’d be something interesting.”

‘hello,’ casper replied, folding up the newspaper he had been reading and placing it down on his lap. ‘well i was reading the paper, but then a much more interesting story wandered by and sat itself on my table-top. what do you want?’

there’s a small shrug followed by genevieve tossing her hair back. “i don’t know. some good conversation, maybe more. but if you’re too busy for lil’ old me i can just find someone else to keep me company,” she suggests.

          agnes had an earbud placed in their good ear,  the other dangling and letting the tinny sound of alternative music flow out.  focused on making notes on the textbook in front of them,  they didn’t notice the girl until they saw her hop onto the table.  eyebrow quirked up and they stared at her curiously,  not having heard a word that came out of her mouth.  agnes tugged the earbud out, and made a guess as to what exactly she had asked,   “   i’m — i’m just studying. uh, what are you doing   ?   ”

     ❛   oh, you know, the usual.   ❜   she said with dead eyes  &  an unimpressed smile on her face.   ❛  death.   ❜

bridget jumped a mile high when the redhead spoke, having been busy with her latest life drawing assignment. placing down her pencil she grinned, “genevive my love, where on earth have you been? you didn’t even text, i was hurt.”

giggling, she hops off the counter and slides into the seat across from bridget. “oh, here, there. you know how it gets and you know how awful i can be with texting. i would promise you i won’t ghost on you again, but we all know i’m not the most reliable with promises.”
