i know i’m really not active right now but puerto rico’s water crisis is reaching even worse boiling points. a system that has been faulty for almost 20 years is finally cracking down worse.
weeks without water during the intense tropical heats of 120. water trucks distributing through only part of the island and one having to hope they pass your home. disabled and elderly people who have ended up hospitalized from these heats and dehydration, some because they had to carry gallons of water up and down stairs constantly. infrastructures that have been collapsing for years and are reaching their limits. 25% of the population is facing a severe drought, june and july have been a total nightmare for us. its also hurricane season, so the fear of that looms over us as well. they took less time funding a 2 million dollar resort then funding to fix a system crisis in san juan of a year ago that was only approved last november and being worked on NOW. some people havent had water for days, weeks, some even two whole months. it isnt even safe or clean water, its unfiltered rain water that is barely suitable to drink. as of today? theyre going to ration who even is able to get water with a schedule to over more than half 1 million of the island. a fucking schedule that i assure you will not guarantee who gets water anyway. for myself, i was already having water shortages back and forth for SO. SO LONG. years. anyone who knows me knows this. i’ll casually say “my water is out today” or “the water went out again so i cant do insert x or y”
we were already having a problem with the power grids, ive had days the water and power will be out at the same time. these are faulty infrastructures and systems that the government refuses to tend to for several years, where they say its “out of their hands” and they are trying to blame us for.
do you want to know the craziest bit? they’re still billing us for water.
all i ask is you keep an eye on us, because people keep over and over looking away. sorry this isnt about how cool bad bunny is or how pretty our beaches are. puerto rico is suffering and has been suffering and the residents are expected to just keep living through each day.
