I wonder if I am the problem.

Maybe I talk too much,

or maybe I say the wrong things.

Maybe I open my heart too quickly,

laying pieces of myself in people's hands

before they've even asked to hold them.

I wonder if I ask for too much,

if wanting to be remembered

is somehow asking for more

than anyone wants to give.

I watch friendships happen around me

like doors opening for everyone else,

while I stand outside,

smiling, waiting,

hoping someone will notice I'm still there.

I'm always the friend thought of last,

the name remembered after a pause,

the person who reaches first

and waits longest for a hand reaching back.

And I don't understand why.

Online, words come easily.

People see me.

They laugh with me,

talk to me,

want to know me.

But in real life,

every connection feels like sand slipping through my fingers.

No matter how tightly I hold on,

it falls apart.

So I ask myself the same questions

over and over.

Am I unlikable?

Too desperate?

Too much?

Not enough?

Or am I just searching for a place

where I finally belong?

Because more than anything,

I don't want to be everyone's favorite.

I just want to be someone's choice.

Someone's first thought.

Someone's invitation.

Someone's person.

Just once,

I want to know what it feels like

to be chosen
