♡    two struggling people found each other and became roommates in new york city.  (  ensuing: slowly learning about each other / unearthing family drama / secrets shared )

♡    mary jane is an up-and-coming actress,  and she found you and accidentally befriended you when she tried to take a breather from a thing she was trying to shoot  ( bonus point:  what if she’s already a pre-established actress and she has a scandal ? )

♡    taking points from above,  an already pre-established stage actress mary jane,  having just gone out of a scandal,  seek a hideaway in a small town.  they meet your muse.

♡    alternatively,  your muse is a famous person and mary jane is your waitress for the day  (  listen ........ this can be spiralled into many different ways. like spilling soup on your muse’s laps?  or mary jane helping your muse out of a predicament when she overheard your call?  )

♡   mary jane who finally got an opportunity to travel,  and got help from your muse while she’s in a different state / county when she noticed someone might be following her from the bar.  (  dark twist :  what if your muse is far dangerous than the person from the bar ?  )

“ wh    -     i don’t    …   heh.     um,    whaddya     -    whaddya mean   ‘ smell ‘ ?     i smell fine. “

      he really would have to try and remember to grab a picture next time, if only to avoid mj’s pouting. he starts to laugh at the mention of other mj’s. of course, she would want pictures of them too.  “  okay, i’ll try to get you pictures, but you already know you’re the prettiest.  ”  peter is smiling as he taps the underside of her chin softly with one rounded finger to punctuate his sentence. there’s no hint of doubt or uncertainty in his voice.

      trying not to embarrass himself, he’s trying to find the right words for his thoughts when mj comes up with ‘taller.’ he doesn’t hold back his laugher, whole chest shaking.  “  oh my god. really?  ”  an incredulous but also teasing look is shot her way.  “  you wish i was taller, mj?  ”  shaking his head, peter looks away from her. he’s trying his best to fake a serious tone,  “  i bet you’d leave me for the peter with six arms since he’s about 6′ 3. this is ridiculous.  ”  of course, he’s only teasing. not actually jealous or that defensive about his height. his insecurities lie elsewhere. 

❝   i know i am—  ❞    she says with a roll of her eyes,   a brief show of driving the points dramatically,   but her wide beams breaks the character.   whatever primadonna-esque persona mary jane tries to put,   it unearths at the touch of peter’s teasing finger.   she feels   -    embarrassed,   a little.   how easy it is that her cheeks burn just at the tiniest of his attention,   but  ...   it’s nice.

it’s nice to hope.   nice to think that,  even in a few short seconds,   peter’s sole attention had been on her.   ❝   still want to hear you say it again.  ❞  

she grasps at his hands,   easily,   folding it in between hers and putting them across her laps.   so when peter had moved his head,  his turn to drive the points dramatically,   she pulls at it,   gasping.    ❝   there’s a peter with six arms?!  ❞    her eyes are wide.   like a child,   mary jane brims with excitement,  her whole body shakes with it.  she brings peter’s hand to her,   squeezing.    ❝   oh,  please,  please.   i won’t interrupt you again,  cariño,   tell me what happened next ?   six arms ?   what is his suit like ?  ❞  

❝   oh yeah ?   ❞     her teeth bites on her lower lips,   a futile effort to keep herself from smiling.   not that it works.  though then again,   mary jane's never been the type to have ever hide her smile so well anyways.   not around pedro,   at least.   he's her best friend.   (   and the reason why her heart rate picks up so quickly sometimes,  but we don't talk about that.   )

❝   you’re pretty amazing too,   you know.   the genius of the block.    i’m waiting on the day you’ll rule university campuses—   ❞    she laughs then at herself,   open and happy,   the thought of peter in a worn down suit and stale coffee,   running from one class to another,   arguing clumsily with other academic scholars.   pedro should have that,   she thinks.

mj would feel small in a classroom.   would feel suffocated.   but pedro ?   he's gonna wipe the floor with everyone.   she can already see it.

❝   and then maybe you’ll be this amazing professor.   the young scientist or something.   professor pedro parker.   has a nice ring to it.   ❞    she taps at his chin,   still grinning.

❝  oh raven !  ❞     mary jane goes on over to embrace   —   and she’s quick with it,   almost heavy.   that is,   she’s heavy in terms of having put all of her weight into it,   squeezing tight into the hug while she tries restraining a high-pitched squeal,   though she suspects she’s failing with how the sound escapes through her beaming teeth anyway.   

❝   i got it,  i got it,   oh my god can you believe it,   i got the part !   i got the part !   ❞    she hears herself speaking quickly,   all in one rushed breath,  and she wonders how it feels like to not be smiling all the time because in this moment ?   that’s all she could feel she will do.   mary jane feels like she’s on cloud nine,  like her skin might run from her with how excited she is,   humming with it,  until —

   just breathe,  says @titansought.   kindly.

and mary jane finally nods,   reels it in.

still,   her smile doesn’t flatter.   mary jane grasps at the other’s hands,   and there’s fondness in her eyes,  a tenderness even in her surprised state —    ❝    sorry.   you’re right.   c’mon.  lunch is on me !   ❞

𝐓𝐇𝐄  𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐓  time  peter  had  received  a  valentine’s  present   –   friend  or  otherwise   –   had  been  ages  ago .    the  years  hadn’t  been  kind  and  the  holiday  itself  would  come  and  go  with  an  ache .    but  this  brought  a  bit  of  WARMTH  to  his  chest ,  a  smile  tugging  at  his  lips .    “    happy  valentine’s  day .   and  don’t  worry .    it’s  either  spend  it  here  or  come  home  to  wade  having  broken  in  and  DECORATED  everything  in  pink  and  red .    ”    the  glitter  bomb  two  years  prior  still  haunts  him .    “    i  should’ve  gotten  you  something .    ”

should she ask further more about the home decorated in pink and red ?   seems like a story.   mary jane is already grinning,   taking a seat next to him as they stare down at the new york traffic.   very classic peter parker,   not that she’d always come with him when he’s in the mask.    ❝    — hm ?   ay,  no.   don’t worry about it,  cariño.   ❞

she smiles again,   dimpled,   though her eyes stray to the view again.   mary jane ducks her head.    ❝    you’re doing me a favour,  really,  spendin’ it with me.  usually peter’s with—   ❞   a pause.   hesitation.   mj swallows.    ❝    he visits gwen stacy.   ❞   and that’s fine.   mary jane usually has him the night before,   just to drop off chocolates and wish him well.   but the day of ?   who knows what peter’s doing,  when he isn’t shivering by the gravestone,   eyes red.

“You know I wouldn’t miss this, I’m coming as soon as I can, I promise.” Pedro reassures her. “I just have to make a stop along the way.”
