You know, when I've remarked that a lot of the responses to my posts feel like people are just plucking out keywords they think they recognise based on the shape of them and replying to what they imagine the post says based on that, the possibility never occurred to me that this is actually how many American schools are currently teaching kids to read.

Like, my assumption this whole time has been that when folks go "I misunderstood this post that says [thing] as saying [unrelated thing] because I mistook [word] for [completely different word that happens to start with the same letter]", that was a bit. What do you mean they're teaching kids a reading method that's tailored to produce this exact error?

i think people are starting to confuse class analysis with bioessentialism. like... no not all men do this, but Men as a constructed social class do do this. that's still okay to say. that is regular material analysis of the world around us.

you could just post "women are an oppressed class" and youll get called bioessentialist

all the rights that come with marriage you should be able to have without marriage btw. you should be able to designate a person who can visit you in the hospital regardless of your relationship to that person.

the reason rhaenyra’s line about “the boys who hid their little faces in my skirts, dead so i might sit in a throne of swords” was as i like to say “giving twitter” was because this is the formulation people love to drop about the show: everyone’s aspirations here are futile and ridiculous because it’s all just for a big throne made of swords. that throne of swords does actually make you one of the most powerful and wealthiest people on the planet if you can sit it securely, but again, this actually subtle thing of buying into monarchy as pure mystification, supposedly to puncture the mystifications that advance power, but which just ends on eliding power in a maddening way. never for a second as a viewer of this show can you let up for a second in your insistence that all the characters’ beliefs and values are fucking stupid, lest someone believe you are pro-feudalism. of course, this line owes a lot to a distortion of the robert baratheon line in the main books, but that makes sense for him - does it make sense for RHAENYRA, the character with the staunch belief she has a messianic, fated, religious mandate to sit the throne, for her to deride it as empty scrap metal, reduce it to only physical material, to suddenly see through the transcendent myth of what it stands for and the profound meaning invested in it? well. not really!

The way all the 2020s have done so far have been making me categorically against every new generation of tech that comes out is insane. Like I'm from a technological boom generation, saw the first portable phones, nokias & blackberries & flipphones etc, and the first smartphones, and the first ipods & ipads & tablets in general while still having cassettes & DVD & MP3 players around so I know how all of it work, I had computer classes in high school, I did the transition between home desktop computers to laptops and back to gaming computers. But then they started to put internet in your printer & microwave, everything has ads & AI now and every update is worst than the last. I literally loved technology and they ruined it
