I listen to a lot of vocaloid music, and it’s not uncommon for producers to delete old music they feel no longer represents them/is of low quality/etc. (to the point “frequent media deleter” is a tag on vocaloid database).
While that’s fully within an artist’s rights, I find it really refreshing that you have everything dating back to Epic Album on Spotify, and that music from thirteen years ago is on your Youtube channel. It’s really cool to be able to see the progression of your music overtime, and while yeah your newer stuff is more polished I’ve still found myself enjoying older albums like Loveletters a lot. Also good to know I probably don’t have to worry about my favorite songs possibly being deleted- something that’s happened to me more than once with vocaloid producers!
there are some things i've removed but only ever due to it being unproductive teenage bs or often just random erroneous things that clogged up the discography. i made a video about that a few years ago.
but for the most part i have kept as much up as i can. i'm still in the process of getting new art for old projects and revitalizing them to continue maintaining them on streaming services and whatnot. the thing i envision about the vylet pony music project is that it is a history of my entire creative journey, regardless of whether it achieves my standards or quality of the present day.
in fact, as i've expressed in other posts, i feel wildly overjoyed when people visit the older work. not all of it is fantastic, but it's all still very important to me.
i'm an avid listener of my own music and i still listen to things like "horse friends" (2014) more often than i do some of my own favourite albums from other artists. not because it's the best thing ever but because it makes me happy, and it is often true that the things that make you happy are not 10/10's (it would be exhausting if all you could enjoy was the best best best things ever that arrest all of your energy and attention 24/7).
these days there's such a vast audience for my work that i never rlly think about if anyone's going to check out what i'm doing or not. that's a huge privilege that i did not have as a teenager. so everytime someone goes and listens to stuff from like 2012-2019 an angel gets its wings in my mind. a vid gets her videos. a part of me that rlly wanted ppl to hear those old songs gets fulfilled.
one of the reasons why i've self-interpolated and self-sampled so much in the last few albums has been so that if nobody were to ever listen to those old songs again they'd find new life in music that was more popular. not exactly nostalgia but, as i've said, bringing the past forward with me.
the things i most hope ppl listen to as time goes on are the pre-fairytails albums that belong to the starship ponyville series:
super pony world (zräos simulation)
not only do i think these projects still relatively stand up in quality (spw maybe a little less) but they're also going to be pretty important regarding what's coming next. so yeah.
