I'm playing our very first campaign with 3 of my friends & because we all have quite limited time, we decided to run our campaign with a different DM each time we play. It's an interesting way of developing the story. We've played twice. It's my turn to DM next, but I'm the first one to play my character as an NPC throughout the session (the first DM's character was introduced the second time & the second DM's character was conveniently kidnapped). Any tips? I don't wanna ruin it for the others.
Have fun. Play your character the way you were before, but hold slightly to the background. End of the day its still your character and youâll still be playing them. If yours is normally a leader, let them take a step back as an example.
Beyond that, if youâve not watched Mattâs DM tips they are great. In addition, I cannot recommend enough Matt Collvilleâs DM tips on youtube, available on his channel linked below. Heâs a friend of a number of the CR crew, and much like myself has been playing D&D and has DMâd since the early days.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkVdb9Yr8fc05_VbAVfskCA
I did some calculations and if Matt said there are a dozen of these artifacts that would mean at least 12 and that would mean at least two for each character. I think the stone nukles are for grog and the shroud is for Percy or Vax
The only wrench to throw in the cog there is that in 5e youâre only allowed to be attuned to 3 items at a time. While not all items require attunement (usually not things like +1 or +2 arms or armor) things like Vexâs bow, Vaxâs daggers, and Pikeâs mace do. So if they were able to get these items, there would be some hard choices as to which items they use.
I was rewatching old episodes, as one does, and couldnt help but notice in episode 24 the feast, about 3:27:25, mr briarwood himself asks if Emon can send aide regarding an issue they are having in the outlying woods. And when the gang first arrives and sleeps in the woods in white stone there was a figure out there that was for a while theorized to be percys sister. Was that person ever identified? If not who could it be?
I donât believe it was said for certain but it is generally thought that it was Cassandra. Taliesin rolled a NAT20 on the perception check and couldnât identify her, so it is assumed it was her.
yeah something tells me that since Matt gave them Kemah I have a feeling that's at least the shroud is going to be guarded by some powerful undead
When we got dragons pretty much everyone wanted to see Kima get her hands dirty with the team again. Add to the fact that sheâs a paladin of Bahamut, and it just makes sense that theyâd seek her aid against this foe.

What are the odds that the "Battle Royale" episode was a fantasy test sequence orchestrated by an increasingly dissatisfied Craven Edge, seeking a better master? (Also, Mittens the Spiritual Weaponcat is my new favorite character.)
Could be. Although I think it could be more possible a terrible dream Grog had of his friends turning on him and his need to be stronger and get even closer the Edge.
I just go around making sure people know this but even though there is an acre the Grove this week if people are still looking for some RPG fun The new channel hyper RPG had just started up and it's going to have not just one but two RPG shows!! A 10 Player campaign of Shadowrun and a mech warrior table RPG called death from above! don't know about shadowRun but death above should not interfere with critical role scene it's not on Thursday
Iâve been able to watch a little of the coverage and it looks to be great fun. Please go support forever friend of CR Zac as he launches a new channel that we can hope will be just as successful as G&S and will open the door for even more RPG playing!
Hi! I'm the same guy who ask about the theme "Volatile Reaction" Matt uses in battle. First of all, thank you. All of you are absolutely amazing! :) Second, I have this question: I want to know the age of every member of Vox Machina. I know Vex and Vax are 27 years old or something, but the rest of the party? Thanks :D
Iâm sure @critrolestats has this info tucked away somewhere but to the best of my knowledge:
The twins are indeed 27. Grog is slightly older than that. Percy is between 22 and 24 (the Brairwoods attacked his home when he was in his late teens, that was 5 years ago). Keyleth is in her mid-20â˛s (her mom left on her own Aramente I believe 12 years ago, when Keyleth was around 12-13). Pike is the youngest I think itâs been said, and I know Scanlan is the oldest. His age is the most in question, as heâs NEVER said for certain and hasnât really dropped any hints. We know that he has a daughter around 19, so letâs assume for sake of argument he had to be minimum 17 to have a child, that puts him in his mid to late 30â˛s. More likely Iâm guessing heâs 40 +/- 2 years.
In what episode did Gorg recieve the second place medal from Kern
The actual medal (yes there is a physical item) was a Critmas gift to Travis. The in show episode where it was given to Grog I believe was the first part of Trial of the Take.
you know To find the relics they still have two unused pools of information. First there's The hag. Matt has said she's was extremely old and knowledgeable she might know where a couple of the items are. And secondly there's Pike. If sarinray have one then she might be able to ask her where it might be
While it is possible that Pike could do something and check with her God, the Hag is the more interesting option of these two. The only issue with her is that sheâs mobile and you never know when or where sheâll pop up. Add to that Vax already owes her a favor, and it could be a bad recipe for them.

I hope itâs okay to send this as a submission, but for the anon asking about the music used in the show, hereâs a list from over on Reddit. (I added a few more they missed though.)
Character Music
Grog - The Pyre by Incompetech (Kevin MacLeod)
Keyleth - Heart of Nowhere by Incompetech (Kevin MacLeod)
Percy - Lost Frontier by Incompetech (Kevin MacLeod)
Tiberius - Sneaky Snitch by Incompetech (Kevin MacLeod)
Vax'Ildan - Anguish by Incompetech (Kevin MacLeod)
Vex'Ahlia - Rites by Incompetech (Kevin MacLeod)
Pike - Serpentine Trek by Incompetech (Kevin MacLeod)
Combat/Action
Five Armies by Incompetech (Kevin MacLeod)
Volatile Reaction by Incompetech (Kevin MacLeod)
Ride To Destiny, Skirmish, Descent Into The Depths, and a lot of others by Midnight Syndicate, especially from their D&D album.
General Background
Oppressive Gloom by Incompetech (Kevin MacLeod)
Satiate - only strings by Incompetech (Kevin MacLeod)
Volatile Reaction is the classic horn combat music everyone associates with the show! These are just the royalty-free songs, they obviously use a lot from various video games too.
Some very cool stuff here! Check it out.
Very astute Critters!
A number of folks have pointed out (and I missed it entirely) that when Allura left Vex made an insanely high slight of hand check before hugging the Lady. They are inclined to believe, and I bet they are correct, that Vex slipped Allura the skull when they hugged so as to get it both away from Grog and out of Emon.Â
Good eyes and ears everyone!
I forget what direction is Whitestone to Amon ?
Whitestone, I believe, is Northwest of Emon. The capitol city lies on the Western coast of the continent TalâDorei. Westruun, the other town destroyed by the dragons, Iâm pretty sure is almost due east. Kraghammer, the Dwarven city, is north and slightly east of Emon. Somewhere, thereâs a map of TalâDorei floating around.
An answer to the Critical Role âbattle themeâ has arisen for the annon who was asking. Always have each otherâs backs!
The song the anon is referring to is "Volatile Reaction" by Kevin MacLeod. I think Matt uses a lot of MacLeod songs during the show.
Hi! I'm a Criter from Chile, South America. English is not my native language, so it's a little difficult form me to write this since spanish is my native language, but anyway...What is the theme song Matt use when there is a fight? Thanks in advance.
Honestly Iâm not sure. I know the main Critical Role theme is done by Jason Charles Miller, who recently appeared on the show as Thordak (and thereâs a fun little story behind that floating around Twitter). I know Matt has recently gotten access to a number of game scores that he and the crew have worked on, including Pillars of Eternity. As to the main âfight themeâ by which Iâm assuming you mean the one with the horn blast, I am not sure who created that but I donât believe it was specifically for the show.

Am I the only one who was a little frustrated watching last episode because it seems like the entire party has forgotten about Kima? I'm hoping someone thinks to visit her or Matt maybe makes her show up by happenstance
I donât believe they have. Her name has come up a couple times and its been mentioned that sheâs in Vasselheim. I think its more likely that without a certain Dragonborn present they arenât thinking about how those loyal to Bahamut would JUMP at the chance to rid the world of chromatic dragons wreaking havoc.
Vex gave Jarret gold and then Laura said that Vex stops herself from kissing him right there and then. So pretty solid dry dock for this ship if you ask me.
Withholding acting on your feelings doesnât mean there arenât feelings there. Weâve seen it with Vax and Keyleth and it hasnât stopped that boat from going full steam ahead. Weâll see, but itâs going to be a while before they see each other again.
