Because I saw this pin and I just couldnât resist
Now, Pidge was simply minding her own business. Doing whatever you did during class, doodling in her notebook, pondering about the point of life and questioning the legitimacy of gravity. The usual stuff.
Oh and also sweating. Lots of sweating. Because it was hot.
Pidge still didnât understand why the classrooms on the top floor were not equipped with AC but apparently it was a thing. Which meant students and teachers alike had to sweat like pigs while learning about human anatomy. It was not ideal. Pidge would rather sweat at home where she could work on the new robot she was trying to build. The code had a few flaws she needed to work out and that was the more pressing matter on her mind. She couldnât care less about how long a humanâs stomach was when you put all organs in a straight line.
But yes, it was hot so like any functional human being would do she had decided to wear shorts. They were a little shorter than her usual ones but nothing scandalous, really. Besides, the guys wore shorts all the time and no one said anything.
So why is it that it was Pidge who was called out?
She looked up at her biology teacher who was looking at her with a disapproving stare. For a second she wondered if she had missed a question but she couldnât remember him asking anything and her hand hadnât been up anyway.
âYour attire is not suitable for school.â
She blinked at him slowly and then looked down at herself. The alien T-shirt wasnât the fanciest, admittedly, but it was comfy and her shorts went down to about mid-thigh. Maybe the problem were her sneakers? They were quite tattered after all.
âYou are showing a bit too much leg, donât you think?â her teacher continued in that disapproving tone of his.
Everyone took a peek at Pidgeâs shorts which, really, werenât that short. The girls sent each other knowing looks, no stranger to these sort of comments from the teachers.
âI honestly donât think itâs a problem,â Pidge then said. She didnât see a problem with her pants at all. It wasnât like she was showing anything that could be considered sexy. She didnât consider herself sexy in the first place. She had thighs like any other human being.
âI believe it is,â the teacher insisted. âYou are distracting Keith with this.â
Now everyone turned to Keith who had been minding his own business. He glanced up at the mention of his name, stopping his shading of a bat he had been drawing just underneath the sketch of an eye. He obviously hadnât been listening and usually Pidge would have snickered.
âHuh?â Keith asked like any other intelligent human being.
Pidge snorted. âI donât think so,â she said towards the teacher who obviously didnât appreciate her defiance.
âBut I do. I think your clothes are distracting Keith from participating in this class.â
Now Keith looked downright confused, turning to Pidge who sat next to him and eying her up and down as if he hadnât seen her at all today before this class. He obviously had, several times, so he probably thought she must have done something to her outfit that could be considered distraction-worthy. He didnât find anything though and sent his friend a confused look.
âYou see,â the teacher continued and Pidge tried so damn hard not to roll her eyes. âWhen you dress like that you are distracting your male classmates from paying attention. Keith hasnât said a word today.â
Keithâs expression was the human definition of a question mark. The teacher was about to continue with his misogynist rant when he was interrupted by the supposedly distracted student.
The teacher snapped his mouth shut real quick.
âSheâs hardly a distraction for me and the reason why I havenât said anything is because I donât get biology, not because she is wearing shorts. That would be kinda creepy.â Keith frowned at the man in the front disapprovingly. People snickered since it was common knowledge that Keith was gay. The teacher had really picked the wrong student for this.
âThis⌠thatâŚâ the man floundered, grasping for words. He apparently had to have the last word in this and couldnât let it go.
Pidge watched it all with a smug smile on her face. Her friends were the best.
âBut itâs still a distraction!â the teacher called like this meant he had won an argument. A little childish for a teacher, admittedly, but thatâs how they usually were. âYou are distracting Lance!â
Said student jumped in his seat. âI didnât do it!â he called immediately, an instant reaction caused by not listening and then hearing his name. A deadly combination.
Pidge turned in her chair to grin at him, Lance looked at her with big eyes as if to ask what was going on before looking at the teacher again like a deer caught in the headlights.
âItâs a distraction,â the teacher repeated, sounding like he was at witâs end. âAnd Lance cannot concentrate because of this.â
The Cuban laughed loudly like what the teacher had just said was hilarious. âSir, I have ADHD, I canât concentrate on shit. Everything is a distraction but did you know that I think Keithâs ponytail is so damn sexy? Like⌠babe,â Lance almost purred and Keith turned around to smirk at him. âYou damn sure know what youâre doing, huh? Putting your hair up. Thatâs not fair, Iâll have you know that have been staring at your neck for the past twenty minutes and I do not regret it one bit.â
Pidge and the rest of the class groaned.
âOh no, not my neck,â Keith gasped sarcastically.
âThen donât put your hair up. Where am I supposed to look when you reveal your skin like that?â
Keith gasped in a scandalized manner. âShame on you!â
Lance just grinned smugly. âI like your neck.â
âHave I mentioned that I really like sitting behind you? I can stare at you aaaall day long.â
âSilence!â the teacher bellowed and the two boys stopped their conversation that had the whole class giggling and snickering in amusement. âWe will continue with the lesson!â With that he picked up his book again and avoided saying anything else regarding the matter. He probably hadnât even realized the irony of the situation even when the two students had made it pretty obvious.
Lance and Keith shared knowing looks before turning back to do their own things.
âThanks,â Pidge said quietly after a few moments of silence and Keith sent her a small smile. âNo problem. But really, your knees are so distracting. Iâm afraid Iâm turning straight from just looking at them.â
Pidge shoved her friend roughly but couldnât help smiling. Her friends were idiots but they were the best idiots out there.
