Imagine holding the iPhone like a harmonica, humming into it, and out the speaker gushes a flute or saxophone.  

Imagine the response being so instantaneous that your voice feels like it “becomes” the instrument. Little kids, grownups, anyone, can immediately have loads of fun! 

With the Vocolo app you can also jam with pre-recorded backing loops, record sound on sound, and share your performances instantly. 

No matter who you are, your brain craves music; and that’s a good thing. Music rewires pathways within your brain, improves synapses firing efficiently, and maybe most amazingly, cements memories in a different way.

A slew of research has been done lately on how music rewards the brain.   While it is a still a new frontier of research, the results thus far have been nothing short of amazing.

Some early findings:  

1. Hearing or creating a melody can change your mood

2. Hearing or creating a piece of music can send signals to your amygdala that feel like a reward, rivaling any external drug. 

3. Hearing yourself perform music can spark your imagination in other linear areas such as math and science. 

While "music" is all around us in nature, the positive experience of music is a uniquely human condition. Yes, birds sing and some animals make melodic sounds (meows, howls), but the human brain  is the only one that responds in a pleasurable way to music, especially new music.  

With such terrific effects, why shouldn’t we all create new music? Well, we should.

That is what the Vocolo app aims to do. Put the ability to make music within your hands (in your phone). If you are interested in improving your body by stretching, or perhaps doing Yoga, and you try to keep your memory nimble by doing puzzles, don’t forget to give your brain the same kind of workout!

Music creation apps have come a long way, baby. From the early days of midi emulators all the way to button smashers and full blown mobile audio workstations.

In fact, a search for “music making apps” on the iTunes App store brings back nearly 400 results.  

But which one is right for you?

Of course, these apps run the entire gamut in features and price:

And some are just a series of colors and shapes that don't feel very musical, like this one form Pixie Tracker:

However, it’s difficult to find an app that 1) makes real music tones 2) helps one be better at music in terms of pitch, tone, and ear, and 3) is accessible to nearly everyone who can make a noise with their mouth.

 That is was the Vocolo App is all about - making real music with just your voice.

It’s played like a “Synth Kazoo.” Just sing into your iPhone and the instruments come out. 

You can jam along to loops and save your creation, you can even easily your creation to a friend.

You can change the pitch, instrument, even the effects settings. The difference with Vocolo is that you are creating the music. It takes some practice to perfect; so just like other games, it’s something you can get better at and really see progress.
