Okay, SO. Generator Rex was a Cartoon Network show from 2010 created by Man of Action Entertainment. The show starts 5 years after something called the Nanite Event- an accident that spread tiny little machines called nanites across the globe, infecting every living organism on the planet. Usually they're harmless, but sometimes they will actually mutate their host into an EVO- and acronym for Exponentially Variegated Organism. Which is one of the reasons some people lovingly refer to genrex as the body horror cartoon <3
EVO transformations are something that can vary widely, but the main thing of note is that when people go EVO they can't always control themselves afterwards, which can lead to catastrophic rampages. Animals and plants can also go EVO, and can make them smarter in the process- though a lot of the more simple ones still lean into natural instincts.
Anyways, let's get to the main character: Rex!! My son!! He's an amnesiac 15 year old EVO who has the ability to build machines out of his body- and most importantly, cure other EVOS. Or at least, most of them. There are some he can't, which are referred to as "incurables".
Now, here's the fun part. There's a paramilitary organization called Providence that formed to handle EVO threats. Ans, to quote Rex himself from the first episode: "I guess you could say I work for Providence. I'm their secret weapon. So secret, they've gotta keep me locked up." Fun!! Awesome!! That's so great and not concerning at all! Rex isn't just a child soldier, he's a living weapon. There's a reason this show lives in my damn head.
More fun quotes said to/about Rex:
- "What are you running to, Providence? You're nothing but a tool to them, a weapon to be locked away until they need you!"
- "You're failing to control our weapon, Agent Six." "What do you suggest; have him neutralized like the others?"
- "You can't befriend a weapon. You can only use it."
So y'know. His life is great :). He canonically doesn't get paid because of course he doesn't and the closest thing he has to a father figure once made a promise to kill him if he ever lost control again. He's other main caretaker is Dr. Rebecca Holiday, head of the research team. There's a line where she mentions sneaking trackers into him. Six and Holiday do both care deeply for Rex but their jobs put them in hard position. It's just all messed up :D
Anyways I can yap more in the morning but for now look at my son
BUILD MACHINES OUT OF HIS BODY???
I HAVE been in a very cartoon mood lately I say with Phineas and Ferb on currently
That actually sounds peak, I may have to watch it
Feel free to rant to me about it (with minimal important spoilers)
