Tale of the Red Fury - Part 1
Old man, âCome here you two.â
Child 1, âWhat is it old man?â
Child 2, âWhy is it so dark in here?â
Old man, âOh! You boys havenât been in here. Â Come, follow me.â
The old man reaches into his coat jacket and grabs a lighter. Â They walk a few creaking steps to a dusty filled counter. Â The old man flickers his lighter on and leans it towards the counter. The candle on the counter flickers on a bright radiance consuming the room with blood red light. Â The boys jump back a step startled at from the light. They gaze across the empty filled room. There were cloth linings all across the room with inanimate objects. Â The old man moves towards the back of the room. Â He fades into the darkness and then reappears. Â They watch as the old man struggles back with a dusty old wooden box. Â
Child 2, âWhatâs in box?â
Old man, â⌠Stuff of legends kidâŚâ
The boys stare at amazement as the old man slowly cracks open the box with his bare hands.  They fixated their eyes so intensely that dust flowing into their eyes did not make either of them squint.  They stare at awe, at a black gleamingâŚ
Child 1, âItâs brokenâŚâ
The old man coughs, âYes, butâŚâ
Child 1, âItâs just a broken sword. Is that all you brought us in old man. This is such a waste of my time. Can we...â
Child 2 interrupts, âIâve seen this sword before but Iâm not sure from where.â
The boys stare at each other.
Child 1, âLike hell have you seen a sword ever Alban!â
Alban (Child 2), âWhatâs gotten into you, Nero?â
Nero (Child 1), âWhat?â
Alban, âYouâre fidgeting.â
The old man burst out laughing, âYou afraid of the dark Nero?â
Nero glares at the old man and growls out, âNever!â
Old man, âCalm down kid, just a joke.â
Alban, âI remember, mother had a book with pictures like this sword, except it wasnât broken.â
Old man, âThe Never Mythos Tome, the book of ancient weapons. Â Yes. This weapon was one of them.â
Nero stares back down at the broken sword with a new look of admiration. Â
Nero, âA real legendary sword?â
Old man, âYes! Very real.â
Nero takes a step closer and gaze at the shine from the sword. Â The pieces of the sword glimmer red with every candle flicker. Â
Nero, âItâs black steel, but it glows crimson red with the candle light.â
Old man, âVery perceptive young oneâŚâ
The old man picks up the hilt of the sword and sets it on his lap, âNow to the point. What stories have you heard about a sword that is black, black steel that glows blood red. Â A sword that is wider than your head and tougher than anything.â
Nero, âI donât know.â
Alban stares at the sword, âThe Red Fury.â
Old man, âYes, let me tell you a story about the Red Fury.â
Nero, âWhy?â
Old man, âWhy what?â
Nero, âWhy tell us a story of the Red Fury?â
Old man, âItâs a story you must know.â
Nero, âHow come?â
Old man, âIt will tell you why the world is the way it is now. Â Why the sky is always filled with darkness. Â Why only a few supers are left on earth.â Â
Alban, âWhere are the supers?â
The old man places the sword back into the wooden box and watches ceiling. Â His attention is drawn to the crescent light outside the window. Â He takes a deep breath.
Old man, âNow, where does it begin... Is it when his eyes first burned the color of red? Or was it when he first drew his own motherâs blood? Yes, he was once called the Red Fury, the immortal man. Now listen you two, this tale isnât for the faint of hearts. Or for children like you two. But it is a story you must, no, NEED to hear. God blessed this man with a curse and a curse of worst kinds. It brought the beginning of the end⌠They say if you make him bleed, it only makes him stronger. Donât let him hear you call his name because youâre blood follows. But yes, let us start from the beginning.  The very beginning.â
