sarah does exist in this universe with some slight tweaks. i will say though that sarah is a much bigger motivator for joel's actions than first thought. she will play a big role later down the line.

she was my everything when i was a kid and she’ll still forever be the person who turned music into something i passively listened to, into an emotional, visceral experience. she genuinely formed and shaped my worldview. i still live by the ride monologue and i still appreciate the comfort she brought to me but nowadays i simply can’t reconcile her political ideology with her music. it’s not even something i can separate anymore because for the longest time the music and the person were entwined.

i think there's a strong difference between fictional works and real life exploitation. porn is exploitative in the way it demonises women for the pleasure of men. men will call sex workers sluts, shame them for their job whilst also actively consuming and promoting the content they condemn. porn contibutes to sex trafficking rings, to rape and pedophilia - all the greatest evils in the world and i find very little redeemable about it. not to mention how damaging it can be for the brain. i understand that fiction can also be damaging but, most people that consume erotica, understands that fiction does not equate to real life. just because you write about certain topics does not mean that you accept them. porn is real life. words on paper only contribute to real life yet they are not a direct factor for people's behaviour. when you write about such topics, there should be a universal understanding you do not agree with them and you should not be held accountable for the people who twist intention to fit their own bad deeds.
