âYou mean you arenât that crazy.â Blair laughed, nodding as her friend mentioned a quick catch up. âNo, a catch up sounds absolutely wonderful, a short run is better than no run you know.â
âIâve reconsidered the intelligence of swimming in open ocean in the middle of winter since that time I almost got pneumonia in 2009,â Vi smiled, linking her arm through Blairâs and steering her in the direction of her house.
Dark Nights | Kayt, Lynn & Violette
âOkay.. Okay, cool..â She swallowed, âThank you.â Kayt nodded hesitantly, understanding for the most part. The words were still foreign to her- not because they were beyond her scope, but because speaking in general seemed so very out of this realm to her. How did one even form words during times like this? She admired how calm and collected Violette seemed. Then part of her remembered another time that Violette had been unimaginably calm- in Bertieâs.Â
She looked up at the brunette, admiring how pretty she was, noting how accomplished she was. Wondering how Sean could have chosen someone like herself over Violette. It had to have been a mistake. She carded her fingers through her hair, a nagging conscious at the back of her mind. Words lining themselves in her head, but becoming scattered again without fail. She sighed, âThis is going to so not be the time for this,â She started, âBut, that little conscious on my shoulder is really nagging at me right now, and.. Iâm sorry,â She sighed, that was stupid, Kaytlinn.Â
âI didnât know, but coming from America we have the whole, ignorance of the law is not innocence of the law thing, and I shouldnât have just assumed that itâd be okay, but I had no idea, and it just kinda happened, because.. it was the first time Iâve felt so free since I-â left the gang in LA years ago, âSince I moved away from LA years ago, and now I think I might lo- like .. have feelings for- Oh, Jesus fuckinâ Christ.â She sighed, rubbing her face roughly with the palm of her hand, âIâm the one Sean slept with, and Iâm sorry, okay? I shouldâve thought heâd have a girlfriend, but I didnât,â the words hung on the air like poison, and killed her. She felt awful.
Violette frowned when Kayt said she was sorry, initially believing that she was apologising for Lynnâs accident; she was about to tell her that it wasnât her fault, but she waited, because Kayt was still talking.
Viâs expression grew less and less readable as Kayt carried on, her eyes darkened and her mouth pressed into a line. She looked down at the hands clasped in her lap. But, as soon as her anger came over her, it dissipated. Sheâd wasted too much energy being upset over Sean, too much time wishing sheâd just gone back to her job in London. It wasnât Kaytâs fault sheâd quit her job for him and it wasnât Kaytâs fault heâd decided that their relationship was built on a weaker foundation than the Harpoole pier.
She didnât miss Kaytâs hesitation. Was she in love with him? Violette shoved the thought out of her mind, along with the warning on her lips. She wasnât bitter, and it wasnât any of her business. And she was in her place of work; she needed to be professional. She pushed back her hair, tucking it behind her ears and taking in a deep breath.
âUh,â She cleared her throat, giving herself a moment to consider how to respond, âThank you for telling me, I suppose.â She didnât really know what else she was supposed to say.

Dark Nights | Kayt, Lynn & Violette
Relief flooded over Kayt faster than a rushing wave at the Bay. She clasped her chest with her hand, finally feeling like she could take a deep breath again. Her heart was pounding, anxiety deep inside her having a hard time letting go of its clutches. Sheâd been so terrified that Lynn wouldâve died- that Lynnâs blood wouldâve been on her hands.Â
âIâm so glad,â She breathed, voice not seeming like it was her own. She hadnât spoken the entire time sheâd waited- just paced. Suddenly, her legs felt very sore and tired. She felt the weight of the world come off of her shoulders, still felt so heavy. She glanced around the waiting room, realizing she had no idea what the room sheâd been standing in looked like till now. Taking a seat on a couch, she looked up at Violette, eyes searching for more than the reassuring smile on the brunetteâs features.
âIs she gonna come back to normal? Everything.. is okay, right?â Kayt asked, not knowing the words to speak. The last time sheâd been in the hospital was in Georgia in a car accident, and sheâd come out of it with a few broken bones and a concussion.  She was sure she was going to worry until she saw Lynn up and breathing with her own eyes, but didnât know when that would be, âWhen can I see her?â the words rushed out of her mouth when she realized that.Â
Violetteâs smile was tired but genuine, as she sat down on the chair beside Kayt. She wanted to answer in the affirmative, more than anything, she wanted to give Kayt an answer she could rely on, one that could bring her relief, but hospital policy and her own gut instinct told her she just couldnât do that.
"Her brain scans came back fine,â Violette said, honestly, âBut she was under the anaesthetic for a long time." She hesitated, then decided to be honest, âIâm obligated by hospital policy not to provide false hope, or to make promises I canât keep, but in my professional opinion, she should wake up just fine. Youâll be able to see her pretty soon, Iâve given orders for someone to be with her constantly, because her concussion could be dangerous, so I want her monitored. Sheâll be groggy, but as soon as sheâs awake, you can come up.â
Dark Nights | Kayt, Lynn & Violette
Violetteâs words escaped Kaytlinnâs mind. She heard them, and they registered, but she wasnât quite sure how to respond to them. She wasnât quite sure how to respond to anything at the moment. Lynn was unconscious in front of her, the woman sheâd ruined the relationship of was comforting her. Lynn being in this damaged state was her fault, Violetteâs relationship breaking was her fault. Kaytlinn briefly wondered how she survived when her very existence brought on so much ruin. Hell, sheâd even brought Kaiden here, and that had to cause problems.
She felt like she wasnât there. As if the word was so loud it had become silent, as if things were so rushed, theyâd gone still. Time had stopped in her head. All she could see were blurs, and all she could hear was her pulse pumping in her ears. She gave a weak, automatic nod to Violette, her words finally reaching whatever part of her brain made realizations. She moved form the ambulance, following the rush into the Emergency room.Â
âI know,â she croaked out, nodding again to Violette, âthank you,â the words seemed so strange on her tongue, but also so right. Everything continued to move around her. Her attention was finally caught by a nurse. Sheâd leaned up against a wall, and wiped her face with her bleeding hand, causing a nurse to worry about her.Â
âIâm fine, really. I.. I just need a bandage or something.â Refusing to be admitted, the nurse conceded to off-the-books pulling the glass from her hand and knees and wrapping them with bandages. The same nurse escorted her to the waiting room for trauma surgery. Sheâd spent the next time pacing, handful of wet wipes the nurse had given her left abandoned on the couchâs side table- most of the blood gone from her face and hands. She just wanted to hear from Violette, to see Lynn. Something. She couldnât even text anyone because what do you say?
Leaving Kayt looking the way she did, with the panic and desperation etched across her face, was difficult. Part of Violette wanted to stay and comfort the girl, but she surgeon in her knew where she needed to be. She cast one look back at her, trying to convey as much hope and positivity as she possibly could, before she rushed through the doors after Lynn, and they swung softly shut behind her.
It wasnât a simple procedure. Violette was almost certain that Lynn had a concussion, so putting her under general anisthetic was a no-go. Instead, she gave her an intravenous induction with barbiturates, and appointed one of the nurses to give her controlled ventilation with oxygen. On the table, she had Lynn positioned so that her head was raised by 10 degrees off the table, so her jugular wasnât occluded.Â
Her insides were a mess; some of the bleeding had stopped itself, but she need a lot of suction to get rid of the blood that was already there. The internal bleeding was coming from her spleen, but it was salvageable. Vi needed to make the call; either she took the spleen out and Lynn would have a much longer recovery time, or she left her under for longer and saved the spleen. She made the second call, against the advice of the nurses in the room.
The procedure was long, and by the end of it, Violet was dead on her feet, but she could feel the familiar adrenaline rush in her veins, the kind she always got after a surgery. She loved it.Â
Vi glanced at the clock, which read 2.37am.Â
âCan you close up? Then take her off the IV and up to recovery and make sure someone stays with her, because sheâs got a concussion.â Violette told one of the nurses, before leaving the room and scrubbing out. She immediately headed out to the waiting room, where she knew Kayt would be, putting a little smile on her face the moment she walked through the door, so Kayt would know it was good news.
âSheâs going to be fine.â She told her, âSheâs strong. Likely to be a little groggy when she wakes up, because I had to put her on barbituates because of her concussion, instead of general. And sheâs going to have a sore throat, because I had to intubate her endotrachially, so basically sheâs had a pipe down her throat for the past three hours. But, yeah, sheâs going to be okay.â
Shout out to my ex You're really quite the man You made my heart break And that made me who I am
Grayson had been wandering around Elmore Woods enjoying the crisp autumn air and how it felt to breathe it in. He froze and frowned in confusion when he saw a couple making out heatedly in the woods. He quickly turned and moved away, his face flushed in a way that had nothing to do with how cool it was outside. âI donât understand why anyone would want to do that in the middle of the woods. Have they never seen a horror movie?!â
âI donât know,â Violette said, with a little laugh, putting her hands into her pockets as she walked up to him, âIt was fun when I was sixteen, so I sort of get it.â

{ @violettebeaumont } and { @hazel-may-bennett } one summers day, a long time ago, talking about nothing and everything.
âOh you know how I get Violette.â Blair laughed, pulling her friend up and giving her hand a small squeeze. âJust like you were in the pool, you get in the zone you know.â She raised an eyebrow, gesturing to the girls wet hair.Â
âYeah, I do,â Vi said, brushing the sand from her legs, âYeah, well, I canât swim in the sea in October. Even Iâm not that dedicated,â She laughed ,âYou been out long? Wanna come for a quick catch up? Or have you just started your run?âÂ
Dark Nights | Kayt, Lynn & Violette
Kayt climbed into the ambulance, staring at Lynnâs body. The EMTs did their job to try and keep her stable. âSurgeryâŠâ she repeated Violetteâs words, fear deep inside her bubbling out. What had she done? It was her motorcycle. It was her idea. Briefly she wondered what would happen to her bikes that were left on the street- before she realized she didnât care. It didnât matter what happened, what mattered was if Lynn was okay. Her breathing hastened, face feeling cold.
âWhatâs gonna happen..â she spoke the words seemingly without air. Her hand clung to the cloth of her shirt, like fear gripped to her being. The alcohol sheâd previously been drinking was long since gone from her mind, leaving her sobered up and much like a child. It didnât even register to her just yet who she was with- the woman whoâs relationship had broken up at her ignorant hands.Â
She moved as close to Lynn as she could without hindering the EMTâs work as they kept eyes on her vitals. The hospital neared, she could tell. âGet her into trauma!â an EMT shouted. Kayt looked towards Violette frantically, face full of questions. For some reason unbeknownst to her, she only trusted Violetteâs decisions with this.Â
Violette could see that Kayt was working herself up into a state, she glanced between her and the Lynn, lying broken and bleeding on the gurney. Lynn had a group of EMTs around her, Kayt didnât, so Violette turned to her, sitting beside her and clutching one of her hands. âLook at me, okay,â She said, gently, needing Kayt to focus, âI donât know,â She shook her head, honestly, âI donât know whatâs going to happen. But I can tell you that I have seen, and saved, people in worse condition than Lynn.â
It was true, but Violette wasnât about to tell Kayt that those stats might not mean anything, that it would all depend on how messed up Lynnâs insides were, because from the swelling of her abdomen, she could tell there was some pretty massive internal bleeding going on. Her surgery would be extensive, her recovery painful. But, if Violette had anything to do with it, she would live.
Vi could hear her blood in her ears; she hadnât seen a case like this since she was back in London, and although sheâd been dying to get her hands dirty, she knew Lynn. Maybe not as well as some people, certainly not as well as Kayt, but she still knew her. The ambulance stopped and the doors opened and Vi saw Kaytâs face turn to her, questioning, desperate. She didnât have the words, she just climbed out of the ambulance, her hand still holding Kayts, wanting to reassure her as best she could.
They rushed inside and Violette finally let go, turning to Kayt. âI need you to stay calm, okay? I have to go with her,â She said, glancing at Lynn, who was being rushed through the doors towards the ER, âI promise, Iâm going to do everything I can for her.â

It was still pretty early in the evening when Blair decided to go on her usual run. After lacing up and turning on her running playlist, Blair was out the door in no time and running her usual path. So caught up in the music and attempting to beat her personal record, she didnât see the person as she turned the corner until they collided. âOmigod, I am so sorry!â She looked over at them, quickly pulling herself up from the ground to offer a hand.
âJesus, Blair,â Violette laughed, from where she was now sitting on the floor. Sheâd been on her way back from the pool, so her hair was wet and her face was bare. âYou were in a world of your own then, hm?â She took the hand Blair offered her and let her friend help her to her feet.

Dark Nights | Kayt, Lynn & Violette
Kayt could only feel her heart pounding in her chest. It felt as if her lungs had filled with cement, because she could hardly breath. Tears pricked at her eyes, threatening to fall off her lashes, âViolette,â she croaked, confusion on her face until she remembered the brunette was a surgeon. Her order had hit Kayt like a ton of bricks. Emergency vehicle? But She needed to protect Lynn. She swallowed hard, no, Lynn needed an emergency van. Shaking hands pulled her phone from her bra, a mix of her blood from the glass and Lynnâs blood from touch her arm gliding over her skin and shirt.
She pulled her phone out and dialed the emergency number, finding it particularly hard to do with bloody fingers. âY-Yes, I need.. need a bus to⊠Main street.. itâs an emergency.â what happened? âA⊠a⊠motorcycle accident,â it all clicked into her mind with the words and she chocked, âPlease! Come quickly! Sheâs bleeding!â
Kaytlinnâs eyes didnât leave Lynnâs form as she hung up, and it felt like only moments had passed before sirens rang through Main street. Bless the drivers who dodged the busy people who were too ignorant to move when they heard the sirens. The EMTs arriving caused Kayt to feel slight bit more panic, âViolette,â she spoke again, looking up at the girl, âI⊠I have to go with her!â Kayt spoke brashly, feeling panic rise higher and higher in her chest.
Violet was grateful when Kayt backed off, because at first she thought she was going to resist. It was hard for her to take a closer look at Lynn without moving her, and Violet was terrified that her spine could be among her broken bones, in which case, moving her would be detrimental. So she didnât touch her, at least not enough to move her; she would let the EMTâs do that.
âLynn? Can you hear me?â She asked, leaning down to speak into the girls ear. There was no response, no movement, no fluttering of the eyelashes. She was out cold. Without a light on her, it was going to be difficult to check her vitals, but Violet has the next best thing and pulled out her mobile phone, using the torch on it to check Lynnâs pupil responses. There was no response. That was bad. Gently, Vi trailed her fingers down the girls spine, so lightly that she was applying next to no pressure, but from what she could tell, it wasnât broken. Thankfully, though, that was when Kayt called that they were here. She was grateful that theyâd arrived so quickly, because right now there was very little she could do.Â
She climbed down off the car, removing her now bloodstained jacket, and looked up at Kayt when she said she needed to be with her. Glancing between the girl and her unconscious friend, who was being checked over by the EMTs. She nodded, briefly. âOkay. But she has...sheâs going to need surgery. Sheâs going to be in surgery for most of the night.â
The EMTâs had ruled out a broken spine and were moving Lynn to the ambulance. âCome on,â She said, to Kayt, as she climbed into the back, explaining her position as a trainee surgeon to the EMTâs she did so.
