Violet Ogden-McKinnon

“You made me godfather because Nick wanted to make Mark godfather and even I know I’m more mature than he is.” he chuckled kissing Holly on the forehead making her stir a little, “I’ll do it, you are all comfy.” he offered and moved up to leave Holly on the cot making sure she was comfortable.

“I’m sure he’ll find out once I get my hands on you.” he chuckled standing behind her and moving his hand along her shoulders, slowly but firmly, like he had learn to do so many years ago. “Is this good?” he asked hoping she wasn’t in any discomfort, usually his mother liked that much pressure on her shoulders.

“You doing everything is not going to change that you are a wonderful person and great at your job, we are your family, we are here to help. But if you feel you can handle it then I won’t say anything else.”

Violet laughed at Tiberius’s comment “Alright well, that is partly true” she grinned. Almost getting up, she was thankful when Tib told her to stay put, Holly was still young, but she had no doubt Tib would try to keep her as calm and comfortable as possible. 

“I’ll be sure to keep my mouth shut” she smiled, letting out a comfortable sigh when he began to massage her shoulders. “You really are the best brother in the world you know? Thats great” she smiled. 

“He’s adorable, you know as much. He’ll be a good big brother, he’s just excited, I’m sure he’ll see soon that it’ll take time.” he admitted as he heard an excited gasp from Matt was Nick chuckled, he would make sure to say hi to his godson before leaving. “I know, I was just exaggerating, but I’m the immature teen uncle, I know sometimes it must be weird to leave your kid with another kid.” He was smart but he still had a lot to learn and he knew that much. He was glad to spend time with Mattie and he was sure that if something went wrong his parents would help.

“I was building a business,” he quipped with a chuckle, “I just thought it was fun to fill the little kelpie bank and then I could buy as much candy as I wanted. Mum never let me, tho.” he chuckled feeling Holly yawn and close her eyes little by little. “I’ve gotten better too, maybe when this little girl goes to sleep I can give you one, just don’t tell Nick. He’ll want one too.” he chuckled before shrugging, “Dad loves you, he wouldn’t mind stepping in a day or two if you need to rest or if Holly needs you.”

“He’ll be a fantastic big brother. I have no doubt” Violet smiled, “You’re hardly a kid, I made you Matt’s godfather for a reason. Sure you’re young, but you’re well ahead of everyone your age in the maturity factor.” she said, grabbing a blanket and putting it over her legs. 

Violet couldn’t help the blush that made its way to her cheeks, when he spoke so genuinely like that it made her heart flutter. “You mean a lot to me too. The world, really.” She smiled.

“True food is usually involved” she chuckled. “Why is this one special?” She asked, raising an eyebrow at him whilst taking a sip of her wine.

He smiled and reached out for her hand. She always made him feel warm and completely at ease. “Thank you for saying so,” He said, brushing his thumb over the back of his hand. 

“He does, but at the same time he knows he can’t properly play with her yet, We’ve explained she’s too little just yet. But he loves cuddles” Violet smiled, she liked watching Tib interact with her kids, she liked knowing that her kids were so loved by everyone. “I don’t need help necessarily, but if you want to take him for a bit that would be amazing. Just so I can take a nap without worrying about one of them.” she chuckled. 

Violet laughed “Oh you will. I’m sure. But maybe not for a few years” she grinned, grabbing a pillow and shoving it behind her back. “Bloody hell I need a massage or something I’m so sore all the time” she sighed. “Be thankful you don’t get pregnant Tib. It’s awful. Great reward, but awful.” she chuckled. “Ah Max, say hi to her for me yeah? I’m sure she’ll handle Bob” Violet smiled, picking up one of the small toys on the couch and waving it in front of Holly. “I know, I’ll miss going, but it’s just too much effort at the moment, with Holly, and Matt would just want to play all the time, and Nick can’t take time off work, he’s already taken two weeks, and he’s taking a few months off when I go back to work.”

“Matt is a sweetheart, I bet he would play tea parties and dress up even if Holly doesn’t ask.” he chuckled looking at his sister and rolling his eyes, “So, that’s not help?” he teased chuckling at his sister hearing her say things she needed even if she didn’t want to ask for them explicitly. Being the older sister she might still feel she needed to take care of them, but as he grew up he realized that he should pitch in more when he could. “How about I take Matt for a weekend? I’ll be with mum and dad so you won’t think I’ll starve him.” he joked, “You two can sleep in while Holly does as well, yeah?” he offered and smiled at the baby, “Are you going to behave for Mummy and Daddy?” he told the baby who just looked at him curiously.

Alice glared at this Pirate man, who seemed like a pain to be around, she didn’t appreciate when he scoffed at her. “Yes. Word spread. It isn’t every day that a Lord’s child get kidnapped.” she said, putting a lot of emphasis on the word. 

“Alice. Stop” Violet said firmly, then looked at Nick “I did hate you. For a few hours maybe. At most” she chuckled.

As the Pirate spoke, Alice looked back between him and Violet, trying to see if he was being truthful, and she wasn’t brainwashed or something along those line. But she looked, healthy, and happy. “I- So-” Alice shook her head, as if it would make her understand more. She was being informed everything she had been told about her best friends disappearance had been a lie. “So you chose? To leave?” she asked, this time looking only at Violet. 

Violet sighed, she never thought she’d actually be asked that question, it filled her with guilt, leaving always had when shed thought about it for too long. But she nodded. “Yes, but it was one of the hardest things I’ve had to do Al, the hardest even. I just knew I was never going to be fully happy there, married to some man who’d tell me where to go, what to do, and control every aspect of my life. Please don’t hate me for that”

“I can assure you, Violet was not kidnapped.” He said, just as firmly. 

Nick chose to stand back just then and let the two women speak with one another, hopefully Alice would come around, because he knew that Violet missed her, he knew that she had many things that she would want to tell the other girl. 

“Oh come on that’s not fair! It’s very windy on the ship.” Violet laughed, pulling Alice into a proper hug. “I see you havnt grown anymore though” she grinned when she let go.

“You’re a menace you know that?” Alice rolled her eyes.

“You are so precious, I bet Matt is all over you wanting to play, huh?” He cooed kissing the top of Holly’s head and looking at his sister. She was a great woman but she had a full job, just as her husband, and two small children, so she must be exhausted beyond words. “Do you need help with Matt? I know mum and dad would love to babysit but I’m his godfather, maybe I can take him for a little bit while Dad takes a few more hours at the office?” He offered playing with Holly’s pacy.

“A break? So I won’t have any more nieces ir nephews?” He asked with a pout before chuckling. “I’ll keep an eye on him, Max might help.” His muggle penpal was known by the two families, the girl from the lake was in all their summer vacations and it was nice to have someone there that wasn’t from Hogwarts and that could distract him from Sirius, “It'ss a shame you can’t come this year, we’ll miss you.”

“He does, but at the same time he knows he can’t properly play with her yet, We’ve explained she’s too little just yet. “No, kidnapped is not a more appropriate word.” He scoffed, shaking his head. This girl was unbelievable. “Oh word spread did it? I’m sure Lord Ogden told everyone the truth of what happened too.” He shook his head. 

“Well I don’t think she ever actually hated me.” He smirked at her before turning back to Alice. “She tried, and I suppose I’ll give her points for that. But the rest of it is true. I had to pull her out of the ocean twice.Because you’re right, she didn’t know how to swim.” He’d been quick to teach her after that though, since she had a propensity for falling or jumping into the water and he didn’t want her to drown. 

Alice glared at this Pirate man, who seemed like a pain to be around, she didn’t appreciate when he scoffed at her. “Yes. Word spread. It isn’t every day that a Lord’s child get kidnapped.” she said, putting a lot of emphasis on the word.

“Good” She smiled, lightly tracing her finger around the top of her wineglass. “You are tonight” she chuckled, then picking up the glass and taking a sip. “Don’t mind a bit of sap.”

“I do. Bad jokes and competition, a lot of the time”she teased, taking another bite of her meal. “Wow you really were looking forward to this date, must have spent a lot of time planning it” she grinned. “I was very excited too”

“Well I’m glad you don’t’ mind. Because I’m quite enjoying being sentimental. You mean a lot to me and I want to tell you that.” He grinned, watching her finger as it traced her wine glass and then looking up at her. 

Alice’s attention moved to Nick when he held out his hand, and all the stories came rushing back to her, about Violet’s disappearance, and the rumours, of which she had no idea which was true, and which wasn’t. Alice looked at the man’s hand, and folded her hands in front of her. “Nicholas, the Pirate who stole my best friend from me and from her family. I’ve heard quite a bit about you too. And I hate you. How dare you come to England, are you planning on snatching another helpless girl?” She said sharply, finishing with tight lips and her eyes moving to Violet. She wasn’t worried, if this pirate wanted to kidnap her too she would go kicking and screaming, and there were lots of people around. He wouldn’t make it three feet.

Violet’s mouth dropped open at Alice’s words, she’d dreamed about the possibility of seeing her again, and it never had played out like this, it had been all smiles and laughter. “Alice” she hissed. “That is not what-”

“Violet I hoped I would meet you again one day, but never in my wildest dreams- no nightmares, did I think you would be with him” Alice said, reaching out and pulling Violet away from Nick slightly as she spoke. 

“I think saying I stole her is incorrect- and a bit of a disservice to Violet here.” Nick said, trying to diffuse the situation. But it quickly became clear that that wasn’t going to happen. She hated him? And she was just going to tell him like that? Who was this girl? Nick cleared his throat and looked over at Violet, because it didn’t seem to matter to Alice what Nick had to say. She’d have to hear the truth from Vi.  But then when Violet tried, Alice didn’t let her get more than five words out before interrupting. 

Violet looked back to Nick and hoped he could see how confused she was at the whole situation, Alice had never been like this. She had always wanted to see the world too, why was she upset that Violet had been doing just that like they spoke about? “Alice I appreciate what you’re trying to do but I’m completely fine, wait what did my father say?” She asked, this whole interaction didn’t make sense.

“He said what happened” Alice frowned in confusion “That as soon as he handed over the ransom money, the pirates took off, without giving you back. That they never had any intention of doing so.” She explained, unsure why Violet had asked.

Violet looked back to Nick again, and scoffed at the situation, of course her father had twisted what had happened to save face. Why hadn’t she known he’d have done that. She turned back to her friend “Alice, that is not what happened. I went back to Nick’s ship willingly, the days I spent on his ship when he picked me from the ocean, originally I hated him, like you do now. But I fell in love with him” she chuckled, holding Alice’s hands. “I jumped in the ocean to get back to him. Father was going to marry me to Lucius Malfoy”

“What? Lucius? But- Violet you can’t swim” Alice said, completely confused, her aggressive manner slid away and the Alice Violet knew came out.

Vi laughed “I can now”

He laughed, “Even then.” He assured her, enjoying the pink tinge her cheeks took. “Dunno why, but yeah, I am awfully sappy.” He picked up his wine glass and took a sip. In truth, he knew exactly why he was being sappy, but he didn’t want to hint at anything. “I’m glad you like it though,” He smiled at her. 

“It means you know exactly what Frank and I get up to most of the time.” He laughed, “But yeah, today was a rather slow day. Especially because I knew I’d be seeing you for this fabulous date tonight, so it was hard to actually get through the paper work.” 

“Good” She smiled, lightly tracing her finger around the top of her wineglass. “You are tonight” she chuckled, then picking up the glass and taking a sip. “Don’t mind a bit of sap.”

“Mummy just wants to distract you from my handsome face.” he joked taking the bear from Violet so she could sit and just relax. She deserved a break, she ran a business and had two kids she deserved to just ‘enjoy them’ for a bit and he could properly take care of Holly until she got hungry.

Tiberius laughed and shook his head, “Nope, I’m an uncle that thinks ahead, because we know Bob is going to get into a Quidditch team if he keeps training and you’ll have your own team if you and Nick keep at it, so it’s up to me.” he teased letting Holly take a hold if his finger moving it to distract her.

“I have better judge on girls than Bob.” he chuckled looking at his sister, “We are going to the lake house with the Potters next week, I’m sure he’ll be a menace there.” he joked.

“I would never” Violet laughed, letting go of the bear when Tiberius reached for it and sat back, adjusting one of the pillows to make her more comfortable. Truth be told, she was exhausted, when she had Matt she had time to relax, when he slept she did. But with Holly, she also had Matt, and she tried to take as many calls from work as she could, despite being on maternity leave. She was exhausted. 

“Yeah, it was clear since you two were tiny that Bob was going to be a Quidditch player” Violet laughed, resting her head against the back of the couch, smiling at Holly looking up at Tib. She laughed at his comment about making a team of their own. “Oh lord, No, I think I’m done for a while. A few years at least. You have no idea how horrible giving birth is, and I’m not going to tell you because I don’t want to relive it.” she snickered.

“You do, thats true.” she smiled, then rolled her eyes at the thought of Bob at the lake house. “Oh merlin, keep an eye on him will you? He’ll be an idiot and try and go after some crazy persons daughter and they’ll try to kill him”

He took a sip of his wine as well and nodded. “I don’t mean to get sappy, but I don’t think I’m gonna mind growing old with you. I mean, think of all that we have in front of us still. And I’ve got you by my side to go through all of it with me.” He smiled at her, the small box in his pocket demanding his attention for just a moment. 

“Work?” He chuckled, “It’s like you were there with us. It was a pretty quiet day honestly. I sat in with Moody on a couple of interrogations and then filed a bunch of paperwork.”  

Violet’s smile felt like it would crack at any point it was getting so big. “Growing old? Even when I’m all grey and won’t have sex with you anymore because I’m too tired?” she teased, but then he continued and she felt her cheeks go pink. “You’re awfully sappy tonight. I quite like it.” she chuckled, swirling her wine around her glass.

Nick just kept looking back and forth between them. And then Violet told her who she was and he raised his brow. “Alice?” He looked at Violet for a second and then stretched his hand out to her. “Well it’s nice to meet you, Alice. I’ve heard quite a bit about you.” He knew that Violet had missed Alice and he couldn’t believe that they’d just happened to run into her directly after coming back into the country after months and months. He’d be lying if he said that he didn’t think that this was some kind of trap. He started glancing around for navy men or Violet’s father.

“Twelve- Sure, it definitely feels that way” she laughed “It’s been three, nearly four, dingus” she rolled her eyes, though she knew he was just being stupid. “Though I think we could make it to twelve, if we tried” she chuckled.

“I’ll get you whatever you want,” He promised, thinking that some fresh fruit sounded good to him as well. “We should probably make sure the whole crew gets some fruit and-” But then someone was calling out Violet’s name. He tensed, not sure who that voice belonged to or how they knew Violet. Nothing good normally came from a stranger calling out the name of someone on his ship. 

But then, when they turned around, it was a short blonde girl who seemed very nonthreatening. He looked at Violet and raised his brow when she recognized the women. Alice? Her friend from before? Well this would be interesting.

Violet felt Nick tense, and gave his arm a reassuring squeeze to let him know everything was alright, she knew being on land made him nervous sometimes in the first place so it didn’t help when someone called one of their names unexpectedly. 

“I’m- oh gosh, I can’t believe it’s really you, my family lives here now, we moved back to England a few years ago. What happened to you Violet? Where did you go?” Alice said.
