Smith alum Julia Child would have turned 100 today. To celebrate, PBS remixed her very best bits of wisdom.
I must admit, this is the first time I've gotten teary eyed during an autotuned video.
Happy 100th birthday, Julia Child! We'll be sharing photos and videos of the honorary patron saint of this blog throughout the day, of course. In the meantime, tour her kitchen here.

Hoop rolling, 1960's.
From the Smith College Archives:
When the Library expanded to link Alumnae Gymnasium, and construction of the Science Center began in the early-to-mid 1960s, the hoop rolling event was relocated to the Quad. By the 1970s, hoop rolling faded away as a Commencement Week tradition.

In 1922 the College's new laundry facility opened up on State Street at the site of the Capen School. Hailed as 'admirably equipped with modern machinery and a fire-proof building' it still relied on human beings to get the job accomplished. This laundry worker stands in front a one of those machines in 1950.
