Transformers: Resonance
In the Earth year 202X, a lone boy discovers the Ark's crash site and accidentally reactivates its stasis-locked inhabitants. Friend and foe alike are reformatted and rise again, marking the end of the Era of Silence.
...
Far off in space, Hot Spot discovers by chance the Enigma of Combination, despite it long being thought to be a mere myth. With High Command back online, a group is assembled to escort the powerful Enigma to Earth and into the waiting hands of Optimus Prime - a group quickly nicknamed the Protectobots.
The conditions for success are simple: keep the Enigma in friendly hands and provide backup to the meager Earth forces. But when the Enigma of Combination is activated for the first time in recorded history, the mission becomes a lot more than what the so-called Protectobots signed up for...
surprise (not really)! i also have a fan continuity! it's not... too story or theme heavy (as in i just did whatever and ran with it) but it's my precious little side project š¤
you'll see any posts related to it tagged as #tf resonance

i only have one (1) spaghetti noodle today and that is after the programming is out onslaught would probably plan to discreetly kill megatron and put the combaticons (+ constructicons? to some extent?) in a favorable position to either leave or take power themselves. it's more likely that they choose to leave. my read on onslaught's character is that he's a pragmatist. he has more political tact than to advertise his disinterest in factional rhetoric, but he truly does not care if he's fighting for the autobots or decepticons. The closest Onslaught will have to 'peace' (without SO much therapy) is fighting (and winning) alongside his combaticons on their own terms. political power allows him to accomplish the prior two goals easier and on a larger scale, with more pawns and resources to mobilize. the decepticon cause violates all of his 'wants': the decepticons often lose costly battles with the autobots due to leadership failures, he and his crew have their actions dictated to them by an outside force, and while onslaught managed some political leverage within the decepticons, he's severely limited by the loyalty programming and internal decepticon turbulence.
ideally, onslaught would have megatron's death look like a 'mistake', a lucky shot mid-battle, and leave with the combaticons in the resulting chaos to return to being mercenaries. onslaught can pretend the loyalty programming broke with megatron's death and spin their leaving as a mistrust of starscream/unease with the internal conflict, not any grudge against the decepticon cause itself. that way he still has connections within the faction that are willing to hire/fight alongside the combaticons. he might possibly plan to reach out to the autobots through swindle and pretend the decepticon civil war + control programming has made the combaticons willing to turn against the decepticons, playing both sides for jobs/resources/intel.
but the plan goes awry (starscream displaying a surprising measure of comptence/soundwave catching the combaticons' new freedom/etc.) so onslaught has to step in and clean up the mess himself. which results in him publicly killing megatron in a clearly intentional manner and burns any bridge he could possibly have with the decepticon faction. (even if some decepticons believe that megatron is an incompetent leader that should have been killed, they wouldn't publicly announce it by aligning with onslaught.)
Directly after killing megatron, though, onslaught is put on the spot. He can either lean into the ākilling megatronā bit and claim power (which heāll have to maintain by violence and fear, not true loyalty) or flee the decepticons altogether. either way, the combaticons will constantly be at odds against the decepticon faction. again, neither onslaught nor the combaticons have no real personal investment in the decepticon faction (except for scrapper + constructions⦠kind ofā¦), so theyāll probably leave. Itāll chafe that theyāre āfleeingā from a fight, but the combaticons are smart enough to pick their battles.Ā With the right messaging emphasizing the loyalty programming, onslaught could even leverage the entire debacle and prep a smooth transition into fighting alongside the autobots as mercenaries/joining the faction altogether, though that wonāt happen immediately.Ā
Initial decepticon reaction will be unfavorable to the combaticons but will probably dismiss them as a symptom of a different problem.Ā the decepticons that DON'T know about the loyalty programming believe onslaught had been paid off by the autobots. most of the decepticons that DO know about the loyalty programming believe either starscream managed to override megatron's control and set onslaught on megatron. what i'm trying to say is the combaticons have spent so long under megatron/starscream's boot, being used in very limited ways that donāt take advantage of their strengths as a unit/individuals, that the other decepticons underestimate the autonomy and lethality of the combaticons.Ā The decepticon high command will probably catch on pretty quickly that the combaticons have broken loose of the code, though. The constructicons have the clearest view on what happened (having been the ones to cut the programming out + onslaught might have filled them in/recruited them for the plan) but theyāre unlikely to throw their lot in with the combaticons. I remember u said somewhere that theyāre passive opportunists (100% agree), and onslaughtās current position is Not Good.Ā
Ultimately, though, onslaughtās end goal had been to regain his and the combaticonsā freedom, which he did accomplish. Cheers?Ā
(i was wrong about the spaghetti quantity + hope ur doing well.)
sorry i haven't had the spoons today to give this as thoughtful of a response as i'd like but AS ALWAYS i really liked all of it. and absolutely agree!!! and i have a few small things i'd like to add myself :0
With the right messaging emphasizing the loyalty programming, onslaught could even leverage the entire debacle and prep a smooth transition into fighting alongside the autobots as mercenaries/joining the faction altogether, though that wonāt happen immediately.
see i think this could be really interesting. i'm not really a big fan of the whole "autobots 'fixing' former decepticons" mindset that a lot of fics with this premise seem to take, but i like the idea of both sides (reluctantly) learning from each other. anyway what i mean to say is, it would be REALLY interesting to see both the combaticons and the autobots work this into their respective codes of conduct/moralities. generally speaking, in terms of what they've done and the very nature of their work, by this point they're the gestalt the autobots (or at least the vast majority of them) are the most likely to reject. and even if they killed megatron, that doesn't really do them much extra favor - who's to say they won't one day repeat that, once people have gotten over it and let down their guard?
(which like. is a fair assumption because the combaticons really aren't siding with the autobots for a genuine agreement in belief. even if they had worked together in the past, it was always on a payment basis, and that was a looong time ago. not that onslaught would be stupid enough as to make it obvious that another self-serving goal is on his mind, but he's just trying to be prepared. i think working with the autobots and getting a steady supply of resources is a good strategic choice for the long-term, but whether the effort they have to put in and the guise of a moral commitment is worth it...? well i guess it depends.)
so the process going into whatever arrangement this is would be slow.
uhhhh my entire blog is themed around protectobots so i will say, i think the idea of the combaticons working with their rivals is something i'm rolling around in my head rn for this specific scenario. doesn't even matter if the combaticons are or aren't permanent members of the faction by this point. the combaticons and pbots are even more ideologically opposed than the combaticons are to the autobots as a whole, so i can imagine that while the pbots try to keep an open mind in terms of accepting the combaticons as allies (emphasis on try), it's especially rough going for them.
ironically i feel the person who would understand the combaticons best in this scenario is blades, even though i'm pretty sure he hates decepticons with a bloody passion. they're not really on the same level, but i feel like vortex could tug at something gnawing away at blades. that little voice inside of him asking what's in it for him when he could just cut loose and tear everything apart while he's in battle, the part of him that isn't going to be able to adjust to peacetime. sure, hot spot is a damn good fighter and he doesn't shy away from combat, but he's different from blades and very different from the combaticons in that he's absolutely passionate about protecting others. or else he wouldn't be leader.
idk. all that to say i'd like to see both the combaticons and the protectobots have to come to some uncomfortable realizations as a consequence of the combaticons (temporarily?) throwing their lot in with the autobots. i think i've digressed a lot from the main topic but you know... (i could totally also find a way to link this back to the constructicons but that would have to happen later when i'm feeling more creative)
also. i know i've mentioned i'm not a fan of when writers make it so that all decepticons are inherently self-serving or cowards. but that's really on a case-by-case basis, and in this case, if the combaticons stuck with the autobots only to eventually leave ... it's not at all the same as swindle leaving onslaught for dead. iykyk.
The constructicons have the clearest view on what happened (having been the ones to cut the programming out + onslaught might have filled them in/recruited them for the plan) but theyāre unlikely to throw their lot in with the combaticons. I remember u said somewhere that theyāre passive opportunists (100% agree), and onslaughtās current position is Not Good.
oh yeah for sure. especially if onslaught has to cut ties with the decepticons ... is it really smart for the constructicons to abandon a faction where - through all the turbulence - their standing is actually going to be relatively stable? compared to giving up everything and going with the combaticons. in fact i would argue that the cons having some internal divisions is the perfect time for the structies to deepen their influence and keep themselves safe, so long as they're mindful of how they go about it.
the constructicons are pretty autonomous in nature, so it's not like they're dependent on the decepticons and their resources, but again - passive opportunists. i think they're more likely to try and remold the Cause to their agenda (or something like that) than to call it quits.
Ultimately, though, onslaughtās end goal had been to regain his and the combaticonsā freedom, which he did accomplish. Cheers?
cheers!!!! (and maybe he'll be able to turn the tables? who knows)

PROPAGANDA (entirely extrapolated from G1 canon/bios š¢):
"Opposites attract! Scrapper is modest and a hands-on leader, while Onslaught is very prideful and hands-off. Scrapper is sociable and leads the Constructicons as one, while Onslaught is without a doubt the Combaticon commander, with a distinct authority over his team. However, theyāre both intelligent enough to let their opposing traits balance each other out. So different, but also so similar in terms of being leaders with (relatively more???) common sense.
Sure, Scrapper may not be Onslaughtās match in the field of military strategy, but heās a specialist in his own line of workāplus given that Devastator has been around longer than Bruticus, there are plenty of things Scrapper knows about combination that Onslaught doesnāt, and thatās grounds enough for mutual respect. Which is the important part.
Besides, itās cute to imagine how these contrasting personalities work together. Onslaught brings out a part of Scrapper that is willing to be selfish, and Scrapper brings out a softer side to the war-oriented Onslaught. When Onslaughtās temper flares up, Scrapper can withstand it and calm him down without letting Onslaught walk over him.
(If you want angst, I promise thereās plenty of room for that too.)"
ART PROPAGANDA (there is SO much i want to share but iām narrowing it down to two):
for future reference what's ur ideal spaghetti portion? a paragraph? many paragraphs? is this too much spaghetti? are u ok with more spaghetti?
thank you...!
i'll gladly take many MANY more paragraphs and asks, i'm a bit greedy ... don't worry about being "too much." it's just that at a certain point i'll have less to contribute and i worry it'll be an inequal exchange ^^;;
with the loyalty-program-removal surgery onslaught also has to convince his team to trust the combaticons. but the risk of the surgery isn't something his plans can mitigate, which means he has to admit, indirectly, that he isn't infallible...
he trusts his crew! when push comes to shove, he knows they'll stick by his side and follow his orders. even Swindle. but it could still feel like he's failing them as a leader by being unable to account for the dangers that come from surgery even if the combaticons DON'T express any worry. (but they will express it. they didn't survive so long by passively accepting orders, and while they trust onslaught to make the most reasonable decision, they'll still point out the flaws of trusting the constructicons. especially with the failed coup from before.) so onslaught tries to assuage their concerns (and satiate his own need for control) by doubling down on everything he CAN dictate about the situation.
bad enough when onslaught himself going through the surgery, painful or otherwise, but when the rest of the combaticons go under he's right over hook's shoulder or pacing the perimeter or scrutinizing the equipment or generally being a nuisance in the operating room until hook kicks him out. onslaught will probably also try to demand that hook do things a certain way (don't give them the mech equivalent of anesthesia, don't interfere in this area, don't touch that area, etc., etc.) and the constructicons, being proud of their work, might take that the wrong way. especially because onslaught has gone through the surgery already (+ probably researched/interrogated scrapper about the process), some of his suggestions are valid and it bothers hook that he wasn't the one to think of it first.
and after the coup succeeds, then what? starscream will try to take power, but now starscream knows that onslaught isn't under the programming, and onslaught knows that starscream knows he isn't under the programming... the combaticons could either:
take starscream out as well and stake a claim on power themselves, going up against soundwave's arguably stronger claim and plunging into a decepticon civil war. they'll have few allies (even with the constructicons) and loyalty will have to be maintained through the combaticons' successes/victories and their violence.
let starscream and soundwave fight over the future of the decepticon cause and leave, going back to serving as mercenaries. the autobots will be unlikely to hire them unless in dire need, so the combaticons will probably remain fighting alongside the decepticons as an independent unit. they'll be mistrusted but their usefulness can't be denied.
defection? it's truly very unlikely.
secret fourth option of uncontrollable circumstances/chaos theory causing completely unforeseen consequences in the trajectory of onslaught's plans.
hope this wasn't too long, i have a lot of spaghetti
YES to all of this. especially on onslaught feeling like his control is slipping and his capabilities as a leader are becoming insufficient
i don't have a lot to add this time since you've articulated it better than i could + it's been a long morning for me, but some thoughts i have
but when the rest of the combaticons go under he's right over hook's shoulder or pacing the perimeter or scrutinizing the equipment or generally being a nuisance in the operating room until hook kicks him out. ... especially because onslaught has gone through the surgery already (+ probably researched/interrogated scrapper about the process), some of his suggestions are valid and it bothers hook that he wasn't the one to think of it first.
yeah, and this is where i think scrapper is necessary as a mediator. onslaught's ego demands that he is in control of the whole process as much as possible, which in this case is being as well-informed and involved as he can. but that clashes with hook's ego, where it's his very pride as a medical professional that's motivating him to help the combaticons to begin with, and onslaught is encroaching on that. and i'd imagine for once that most of the structies are more willing to side with hook on this one. so whilst scrapper might be in favor of letting hook do his thing, he's also the most obvious voice of reason that stops any disagreement from being blown out of proportion in such a tense situation. (onslaught is smart enough to know that he shouldn't push hook too far or else he's left with no one else to really help, but he doesn't know where "too far" is as well as the constructicons do)
if anything, hook is the one who should understand the feeling of "i can't let any of these factors slip out of my control and spiral into a horrible mess" but i think that pisses him off even more
let starscream and soundwave fight over the future of the decepticon cause and leave, going back to serving as mercenaries. the autobots will be unlikely to hire them unless in dire need, so the combaticons will probably remain fighting alongside the decepticons as an independent unit. they'll be mistrusted but their usefulness can't be denied.
this is probably the safest option of the scenarios you suggested, or if not safe then the most "natural." although i'm not sure how content they'd be if somehow starscream seizes power, considering it was his bullshit (forgive my wording) that put them in the whole loyalty-programming situation to begin with iirc.
though, if this particular scenario actually results in the decepticon faction splitting under its own weight, it benefits the combaticons to be independent because they don't have to commit to whichever side starts to sink ... (and we end up with a bit of a skybound-like scenario but tbh the faction infighting is one of the few things i liked about it)

onslaught killing megatron means he got rid of the loyalty programming... scheming with the constructicons?
onslaught, paranoid with a need to control all variables in his immediate situation, has to open his processor to foreign servos and TRUST that scrapper isn't going to lobotomize him or snitch. maybe he'll even place the lives of his team, his squad, his combaticons under the knives of the constructicons where his plans cannot guarantee that they will survive.
dunno, just tossing spaghetti at your inbox...
let out a squee when i saw the first ask, cried (/pos) when i saw the second ... you are so kind anon š your spaghetti is more than welcome here trust me i am collecting it in a bowl and eating hungrily (see below!!!)
when i posted earlier i was mostly thinking about my coup scenario from pre-war where onslaught thinks he's got one over on megatron, but i like this a lot better. especially because you worded it so well. for such a strong and experienced commander, he can't control what happens when someone else gets in his processor, so to voluntarily give up that control to someone not of his team is a huge gamble for him. trusting is a gamble.
(if we wanna take the scrapslaught lens, or even without it, there's pretty much no one else in the faction ons can turn to. scrapper is pretty trustworthy and hook, one of the few qualified surgeons in the vicinity, would do anything for scrapper. uhhh and i'll talk more on the specifics of ons trusting scrapper in another post sometime maybe??? bc i actually had a fic idea with this very premise)
but. you know, if it means not only getting back at the one who's humiliated him and who should have been taken out of the picture a long time ago, i think onslaught is willing to take some calculated risks. provided he has absolute control on everything apart from the operation itself, or at least tries to have it... hopefully he can keep a handle on his behavior before it pisses off hook too much
anyway! i think it's up to interpretation whether such an operation is painful or not, especially when cybertronians likely experience pain differently than we do. (i guess it depends on if the loyalty programming is solely a software thing or mixed in with the hardware of their brains.)
so i thought of two scenarios. one where the operation is completely painless, and it freaks onslaught out, because if there's no sensation he won't be able to tell if something is going wrong with the operation until it's too late. just a vague idea that there is poking and prodding going on in his processor. but if he's too vigilant, they won't be able to get to the loyalty programming ... or worse. the other scenario is one where the removal operation hurts and they know it's going to hurt like hell, but onslaught still refuses to go under or anything because he would rather suffer through any pain than drift off into unawareness again.
and this is just ons by the way... we still have to undo the programming in all the combaticons, plus i'm pretty sure bruticus is suffering under it too. (though i imagine if onslaught goes first, and it goes smoothly, everyone has a little less to worry about.)
as for the constructicon side... if you'll let me yap a little more. i think anyone who's been on this blog long enough knows what i'm about to say. definitely of the opinion that yeah, the structies would knowingly assist in this and onslaught is right to trust them (even if it's not a sunshine and rainbows "we'll do it with the power of friendship" thing).
first of all, they naturally take pride in their work as constructicons. they're loyal to the craft. if they deliver anything less than what's agreed upon (and i can totally see onslaught trying to frame this as a contract just so he feels like he has some control over the situation), then that reflects poorly on them, whether it's construction or medical matters. and they're not going to do a lousy job, hook of all mecha isn't going to do a lousy job, when an ally's life is on the line.
secondly, it's a mix of sympathy and pragmatism. because the constructicons are so autonomous, the fact that megatron could forcibly control his own mecha by way of loyalty programming does not remotely sit well with them. besides the fact that it is just plain terrible to do that to someone, not that the structies are paragons of morality, it could be them next if they don't mind the very way they breathe. ("The Secret of Omega Supreme" isn't 100% canon to my little universe, so no brainwashing happened to the structies for them to join the cons, but. you know. "The Core" is, i think that's the episode where the autobots use the dominator disks on them. so something might have hit a little close to home there.) also, they are loyal to megatron and technically bound by contract there, but they have their own agenda.
also tbh why would you not go behind the back of your shitty boss who's gonna be dead by the end of this if you play your cards right. i mean there's no guarantee there but let's be honest
i think this all works anyway because unlike the combaticons who i imagine work way better when completely unleashed, the constructicons have never been the type to proactively threaten megatron's reign. whether in canon or in my interpretation. they are generally passive opportunists who - as long as you deliver on your part - will help where they can. so there's a balance there.
as for what happens when megatron is actually dead? well... that's not my problem anymore ;) that's for the two gestalts to work out and wrangle the decepticons, but surely if onslaught can trust the structies with going into his processor, he can trust them to back him before someone unfavorable seizes power?
...
one more thing. i mentioned that technically in my fanon this has played out already, the idea of the combaticons previously staging a coup against megatron and the constructicons backing them only for that to fail and for the loyalty programming stuff to happen later. but the constructicons' support back then was retroactive(?), they weren't involved with the actual plan at all. so in a scenario where that's the case, i think there might be some apprehension that history will repeat itself, but the key difference here is that the structies are in on it ahead of time.
The refs on my old sheet were a bit outdated, so here's a fresher one. Prices remain unchanged, of course, and are in USD
I can draw regular humanoids, anthros, ferals, centaurs, and mecha.
OCs, OC x Canon/Selfship, and Canon x Canon ship art are all perfectly fine to ask for. I'm willing to draw n s f w subject matter and gore, though they're not something I specialize in, so do keep that in mind. If there's anything you want not listed here, please feel free to message! I love talking about art ideas with folks, even if they don't end up in a commission.
I don't have proper wifi at my house, so there may be up to three days between being shown the finalized drawing and getting you the full quality image.
(cel shaded chibi example was commissioned by @bestdrachna)
I love how you draw the Constructicons so much (Cybertronians), you make them look cute depending on the piece but also handsome and your colors are so nice to look at for them. Would love to see more of the team from you, especially more Scrapper and Hook (who have such a unique dynamic to me with how only Scrapper has ever earned Hook's trust) if you ever get the interest in drawing more of their handsome mech selves!
Thank you!! <33 I would definitely love to draw scrapper more, but his personality is still a bit of a black box to me so I want to get to know him better in canon before I draw him as much⦠that and his helm shape is something iām still trying to understand šš
maybe slightly less unhinged but do you think hook might cook like this https://www.youtube.com/shorts/rtSlOY1aFTw
mostly the precision stuff
I imagine hook would be the type to make very quick simple meals and save his patience/energy for more important work, but iām sure heās haughty enough that if challenged, he would try this just to prove that he can haha
