i don’t have really any other place to gush about how fucking incredible this episode was and how many things it proved me right about from headcanons to his mannerisms but--this was fantastic. i loved it. it not only proved me right abt naegi as person but as a character and his overall resilience to things that have the capacity to completely destroy him, but don’t. mirai hen just went ahead and proved not only that naegi can’t feel despair, it also proves that his overall development is not dependent on compromising on the worldview that’s kept him alive all of these years--and i’m extremely confused as to why anyone’s taking this as the exact opposite of that.
naegi is humble by nature we all know that and always placing what he accomplishes and what he is able to do on the backs of those he considers his friends ( a broad range, as we’ve already seen ), but the fact is he’s an extraordinary person whether he wants to accept it or not. not only in the meta sense that he’s a clear exception to the ‘oh everyone feels despair’ thing, but as a human being. not to mention he should totally be dead, he should’ve died a long time ago and his own strength was finally (finally!!!) brought to life here as well as his own intelligence and how far he’ll do something to try and amend things.
if the fact that naegi isn’t completely ordinary is disappointing--that’s your loss ? honestly ? don’t even get me started on ‘oh this takes away his humanity’ when he also has struggles and flaws just like anyone else and the one thing that stands him out from the rest of the cast (except nanami) is that he’s never going to be able to experience a state of complete hopelessness, which is all what despair is. let him attempt (and fail) to grieve properly, be angry and frustrated, and be tired for fuck sakes, but don’t take a moment of him having trouble keeping himself together in front of others since that’s an obligation he’s taken upon himself as a moment where he ~despaired~ when the reality enoshima presented him back in dr1 couldn’t do that much. ( if you’re looking for a character who’s completely ordinary compared to the rest of everyone in this series. you’ve got hinata. smh. who is great by the way but he’s the most normal person in the series next to komaru come on. )
don’t even get me started on the fact that this in no way sets him up to even consider munakata’s irrational views ( which are being heavily clouded by the grief and Mainpain from yukizome kicking the bucket ). i’m so satisfied. they could’ve fucked up their naegi characterization and made him attempt to reason with killing but no and i know it’s a very hard thing to mess up but they did it with hinata’s characterization in zhen so i was Holding My Breath. i might actually stay on my blog if they keep this up omg.
