How do I describe this place? It’s impossible to recreate it’s social importance to early 90’s NYC in modern terms. It was THE place. And it was my Thursday night hang with @macman786. From the day it opened we arrived each week after work, walked past the line, through the velvet ropes, greeted our doorman and secured our spot at one of the best bar tops ever designed by mankind. Later, around 11pm or when the neon “Diamonds” clock became too blurry to read, we bounced to our next destination before ultimately landing at Corner Bistro for the “last call” burger. Coffee Shop closed its doors last year and has sat vacant since. Today I walked by only to see workmen jackhammering the logo out of the floor, cutting the bar out, demoing the walls, smashing the mirrors. A piece of me is still in there. A good piece.
