In August of last year, my mom and I ran away. We finally escaped my abusive father. In October, he died. Micheal Emmerson, I love you, and I understand you. Almost every night since then, I have had nightmares of him. [And as someone who never remembers their dreams... it's horrfying.] Every little thing reminds me of him. And not to mention the weight I feel - the weight I've always felt. Not to protect a sibling. Thank the gods. I never had one. But rather to protect my mom. Throughout my rough childhood, I always saught comfort in horror, and one of the biggest comforts for me had been the lost boys. Naturally, I was ecstatic when I found out they were making a musical. The songs they'd dropped were amazing, the cast was stunning, and I was so hyped. I didn't know just how much the musical of a movie I know, like the back of my hand, would affect me. I've always loved Micheal, but now...oh my god. I relate to him so much. There's nothing I want more in life than freedom. Than community. Than a place where I can be happy without the responsibility of being someone's protector weighing down on me. I cried. Multiple times. Over Micheal. Over Sam. Over David. I couldn't stop crying over every little thing I related to because this was *my* media. This was the media that meant so much to me... right in front of me...representing me. Thank you for that.
