Assignment 2 overview:

Due: Friday 27th 5 pm week 9

 You need to present on tumblr 10 pieces of documentation that highlight conceptual processes you employed to create a finished work.

·         Within your documentation you should refer to some of the themes presented in the course.

·       Research is key to this assignment. Each piece of documentation should include things like links to websites/videos. Quotes and references. Images of your work and other relevant artists/designers/video makers. Text to explain meanings and contexts.

·       Remember that research and documentation are active not passive. They form an integral part of the conceptual process itself and should reflect your final piece – so be creative in your presentation. This will make the marking process more interesting.

·       Use your map from the first assignment as a guide.

  Examples of documentation themes: (Remember your project is leading the research so these examples my not be applicable to your work)

  1.      Divergent thinking – did your employ this in the creation of your work? If so how? Demonstrate with examples/ research/images of your work and the work of others.

2.      Convergent thinking – see above (NB: it is possible that you employed both convergent and divergent thinking in the same project identify how/when this happened)

3.      Materials- How/ Why did you use different materials. Did you use anything in an antithetical way? If so research and write about it. Remember every material has a ‘cultural currency’ identify these and present them with researched examples as part of your documentation.

Depending on your project, the use of materials could be at least two documentation examples. Reflect on your materials what are they saying and why did you use them and not something else.

4.      Techniques- did you employ alien methods- for instance did you make something using a new method? Or did you employ un-creativity? I.E .did you steal anything?  These should also form part of your documentation. Dissect your techniques – what dose it mean to make in the method you employed.

5.      The piece itself. Reflect on the outcome. Where could the project go from now? How is it standing in the world? Does the piece have a beginning and end or is a long on-going process. Reflect on the piece within the conceptual processes presented in the course and also in the wider context of contemporary art/film/design. This could be a good conclusion for your assignment.

Remember in the next class you are working in a group to come up with a plan and materials to 'copy' an art work, which another group will carry-out.

Please bring in any materials/ideas/instructions you need to make the class happen.

If you are sick or cannot make it to class it would be polite to let other group members know.

Things to do for week 5:

1.   Read the second part of the thinking through media information in the resources tab on the omnium site.

2.   Take a photo of an interior and print it out – black and white is fine. Post it on your tumblr as well.

3.   Bring in any old magazines or books to share for making collage. 

4. Bring scissors and paper glue
