Dog, I'm not even gonna lie. I know I am emotionally cooked and extremely tired when I'm watching a Hermit vid and someone makes mention of Wels' Ender ender or goes through the End portal room and I feel like an emotion over it. I'm like ough, my fucking knight built that stuff for his friends. My knight...

Been thinking a ton about the fact that many fanfics of Wels will often incorporate the lack of Hermits acknowledgement of his late start to season 7 - irl it makes sense as his very legitimate reasons but I am talking lore wise - and it is so so so fucking interesting to me. My big huge Hermit thoughts.
Like the implications that the Hermits just never acknowledge it to Wels and therefore he never really brings it up either despite the severity of what transpired. Waking up on a dead world with all your friends gone and barely anyone having even batted an eye at your absence is horrible. Do they not bring it up because they don't know how to navigate the topic, do they not bring it up because Wels has asked for the space to not be obligated to think about it, do they think they are doing a kindness by not making him relive that, or is it an act of self preservation because it would mean acknowledging a hard and terrible thing they did and felt maybe little to no guilt over at the time only to be faced with the consequences of their inaction later.
In my heart, I imagine at least some of the Hermits trying to talk to Wels about it - people like Hypno or maybe Jevin as folks closer to Wels, maybe Xisuma as the server Admin and therefore having some form of responsibility over Wels and his neglect, etc etc - and maybe they try to talk to him about it. Maybe they try and fumble their way through apologies and excuses or take accountability only for it to feel so flat and short. I wonder if there's the unspoken tension of "you wouldn't have forgotten if it were someone else," lacing those conversations, or "you would have fought for anyone else but me," being unsaid but felt. What's worse? Not talking about it at all and pretending it never happened, deluding yourself into thinking it's all okay just because you are looking away from the active hurt; or trying to talk about it only for it to be unspoken and yet felt that you simply didn't care. Is not bringing it up a kindness, and if so, who to? Who tries to make this better, how can you soothe an ache so fierce? Who says sorry and means it and who proves themself enough to Wels he can believe it?
I want this to haunt them. I want Wels to have grown so fucking bitter over this but at the same time that part of his brain that refuses to see them all as anything but kind - he witnesses their kindness, their love for one another, it must be an issue with him, he must be the source - and the obligation of forgiveness masks his underlying and very real growing hurt and resentment. That man is loyal as a dog. I want there to be a crash when it comes to light that Cub never came searching for him because it was strange to him that Wels wasn't there along side them, that he and Ren and Scar never batted an eye despite being Kingdoms guys together, but it was all an accident. Wels was found and rescued by coincidence, not out of intention. How much worse would that sting? He wasn't even worth a search effort.
One thing I think adds such an extra layer of tragedy to this whole scenario as well is that in canon, Wels is an extremely, extremely, extremely kind man. He is always going out of his way to help other Hermits if they need, whether it be with projects, gathering or gifting them resources, or just being there for them in whatever capacity they need or he can provide for them.
I think part of what really is so terrible about the hypothetical that the Hermits just try and bury their guilt about the whole s6 debacle is Wels is a nice enough man that he wouldn't bring it up to them if he realized it would cause them sufficient amounts of distress so he would self censor and bury his own feelings about it in order to not burden the others. The other tragedy is that Wels is a nice enough man that no matter if they do or do not address what they did to him, he likely would question what about himself made it so easy to leave him behind no matter how hard he tried to be a good person and connect with them. I could see it going down a route of Wels over compensating in order to try and maintain what he views to be scraps of affection for him left and being overly helpful or pushing himself to the point of self destruction in the name of the other Hermits; or he may view his efforts as a nuisance and then hole up. Despite being surrounded by people for the first time in however long he is the one making the effort to avoid everyone else out of concern that all his previous efforts were only making him an annoyance to others rather than being what he thought was a good friend.
Ngl, unless something rly crazy happens, I rly don't expect to get into Pan SMP in the slightest. Maybe reblogging art here and there but overall I have absolutely no skin in the game like some of my friends do. Not growing up learning mythos and not rly having much interest in Greek mythology means I'm very ambivalent to the series. That being said, pan!Apo, Pearl, Cleo and Abolish are hot and pan!Legundo needs chest and stomach hair or else i have to throw him into a pit.

Your recent Wels season 7 posts have been haunting my brain please tell us more (if you want)
It is so intriguing to think about how being left behind and having nobody talk about affects a person and now I can't stop thinking about it, look what you've done /silly
Hiii. I am jumping on this ask because I literally was about to bother my poor pals in a server about my Wels thoughts yet again and felt bad, so this is the perfect outlet for it. I warn you, this is long and rambling.
So in regards to my s7 thoughts, I am thinking A TON about the impact of isolation and what that does on a person's psyche. There's the obvious impact on a person's mental well-being such as increased risk of suicidal ideation or actions, increased levels of depression and anxiety, different articles have talked about the tie between isolation and psychotic symptoms, etc etc. One of the interesting things as well is apparently long term isolation can cause an increased risk factor in cognitive decline such as memory loss and poor circulation of chemicals in the brain helping with upkeep and healing. I do also believe that in his time of isolation, Wels likely would do a much poorer job of self care whether that be healing himself or avoiding risk taking behaviors, eating, sleeping, etc.
I think that all in all, Wels would be such a fundamentally changed person by the time he is brought into s7 that the notion of a smooth transition from the previous season to current would be near impossible for him; and the impacts of his long term isolation is near impossible for the other Hermits to miss. Of course there's the obvious tells - despite how much Wels tries to hide them - such as his gaunter face, the bags under his eyes and the phantoms spawning everywhere he goes. But I also think there's other insidious tells that the Hermits have to be paying attention to Wels to notice, his at times slurred speech, his worsened short term memory recall, his dissociation and fugue states, the way he will talk aloud to himself in a way that others may interpret as self soothing - as his own voice was the only voice that he heard for months - but the flicker of his eyes and twitchy demeanor indicate he's reacting to something he sees or hears that nobody else can. Stuff like that.
I think there's a very real, very terrifying decline in Wels' overall condition that he tries to hide or at the very least he tries to pass off as minor. But I think Xisuma can tell in the way the code around Wels seems scrambled, angry even, all tangled and upset and buggy as this type of trauma is ingrained into his very code. And Doc and Cub talk about the little signs they see and hear of, quiet chats about getting him into one of their offices and maybe doing a brain scan or something. Hypno, XB, Beef and Jevin all talk action plans, trying to figure out what they can do to help him with these newfound troubles. Can they visit more often? Make a schedule of it? Or maybe they can be more physical with him since he's lacking in physical stimuli as well - though that's up in the air as Wels has become even more prickly and defensive with touch than before even with his armor on he reacts like he's been burned. They talk about checking on his sleep and dropping meals off because he's literally deteriorating before their eyes. Scar thinks of dropping off Wels some mobility aids since he watches the formerly steadfast knight stumble and sag randomly, Ren saw how the brain fog seemed to zap all of Wels' memory of just earlier that day right from his head and thinks of bringing him journals and signs to help mitigate the confusion. Etc.
But I also think there's the very real possibility that this is just all so so much. I think of some situation where the Hermits are all together or at least a large group of them are and it is all so so much for Wels. They thought they were helping but as Wels flinches and screams and cries and curls up in a ball in the dark with his hands over his ears they realize how much of this was for their own peace of mind. The way they handle Wels' recovery has been what they thought what was best for him rather than what Wels needed to be better, they push him too fast and too hard. This whole get together with the loud voices and pressed together bodies, it doesn't offer the same level of comfort that it used to offer Wels - it will in time, but it does take a while to get there again - but it makes it all worse in a way. They let him be so alone, so isolated in that quiet dead world for so long that he doesn't even know how to be near them anymore. I think of a Bdubs sleepover and everyone watches feeling sick at the way Wels doesn't lay on the beds like everyone else does but pulls a blanket and pillow to the floor and curls up underneath one of the bed frames. I think of the times they wake at night even from houses apart to hear him screaming. I think of the way he mumbles under his breath about another him watching from afar and how it wants to hurt him.
There's a lot that goes into the thorough breaking of a knight. It makes people realize they are extremely and terribly, out of their depth.
