Love is an incredibly difficult and complicated subject for Makoto in a number of ways, she’s barely able to differentiate what it means to have a true friend and platonic relationship, unsure what friends to for fun and even how to act around those close to her age. slowly but surely she’s able to gauge what exactly makes a good or bad friend, having rather one-sided && isolated friendships growing up through middle to late high school. holding her bonds to the phantoms the evermore closer, due to, having almost no one in her life she can truly depend on && relate to. 

as for the aspects of feeling love, more or less, makoto hasn’t been able to develop proper emotions or even clarity to what it truly means to be in love, she is familiar with ADMIRATION and ADORATION. as for attraction && desires, she can be rather slow on the uptake and even naive at times. despite being one of the eldest members of the thieves, the student council president cannot help but come off as naive, for her lack of exposure and experience. 

the very best she can describe the emotion of LOVE, is being absolutely enthralled and inspired by the individual in question, her FATHER // SISTER // THE THIEVES. Makoto by her own definitions, she is in LOVE, but differently than one would consider when hearing the phrase ‘ in love ‘ valuing platonic love && affections immensely over romantic.

                 It was standard procedure, but oh man does this lady give him the chills. And following that sentiment was the fact that he felt slightly intimidated by her even though he was her senior by a few years! Yousuke Hanamura, get yourself together! He’s fought Shadows inside of a world inside of a TV, surely this was something he could handle. She kind of reminded him of someone he had met recently, but he wasn’t the type to run off and make assumptions. Not anymore, anyway. He was older and more mature than that.

             However, his initial impression was slowly fading. Yousuke Hanamura liked to think that he has matured at least somewhat since the murders in Inaba. He had learned so many things about life, realized his own short - comings, and tried hard to fix them. When fighting one’s own true self, it was hard for the message to not become engraved in his mind.

           “Thank you,” he says with a nod of his head, feet carrying him forward as he followed along. It doesn’t take long for the whispers to follow, and he stares at her back in wonder. “Is that normal around here? All that whisperin’?” There’s boldness in his tone, since it isn’t any of his business. But not even in Yasogami did the students gossip so much – unless it was about the midnight channel.  

makoto hated to admit, but the students of SHUJIN tends to be rather chatty and rumor crazed, perhaps it was common in all high schools && students filled with insecurities and fear for their future. she couldn’t exactly fault any single student, for this was a CRUITIAL time for growing up and developing into adults. even most adults seemed to indulge in similar activities. it was saddening, to say the least.

SHE, the student council president, the top of her class && resident teacher pet as she was referred as. of course, rumors were rumors, she was HUMAN and resented the teachers for their IMMORAL attitudes && methods. alas, many of her own insecurities held her back from proving those ill rumors to be false.
