They start pulling on your cloak to get your attention.
@vessel-broken
[Quick is the yanking to catch Holly's attention.
Their head swivels down, gaze angled so as to just about (awkwardly) meet the other's, before they offer a questioning look.
Ever curious. Ever patient.
It seems to (rather gently) ask: what is it you need?]
They try to wave their arms around, but what ever they want to say is unknown.
(They are having trouble communicating)
[Noting the difficulty in responding, Holly thinks back to how their sibling communicated with them in the Ancient Basin and turns away. They walk a short distance to retrieve a sketchbook--fresh and unused--and a wide variety of some slightly blunted crayons before extending the offerings out.]
They take it the two items, and after a minute they tigure out how it worked.
They then starts drawing.
They draw themselves on the side of something
(Sleeping)
They then draw a circle above them, with something in it.
It is a white fluffy thing, with yellow glowing eyes, with orange lines coming from them.
They then draw this fluffy thing with a speech bubble, what is in it is gibberish.
They start panicking after drawing it.
[Patiently do they watch. Closely.
Every rough line, every color selected, every simplistic part etched into the pristine papers of the sketchbook, the faint smell of parchment gently wafting out the open pages.
What is being illustrated gradually becomes clear...
And almost imperceptibly, their expression darkens.
A tiny bit of tension springs to their posture and they take a crayon of their own to draw several lines right through the image of the Radiance, each one made to look as though dripping blood.
Then they point to themself and in the general direction of the Tearless city far beyond.
She won't pull what she did before. Runecraft has seen to this.
Holly then drops to a crouch, pulls out a pen-like implement, and points it in the direction of their sibling. They drag it across their own shell, small bits of shimmery Soul aimlessly coming out, to show that not only is it harmless but that it's magic.]
They look in confusion.
[In turn, realizing the confusion caused, Holly reassesses their approach. Then extends their free hand out as if requesting one of the Broken Vessel's in return.]
They slowly extends their arm in return.
[Holly hesitates none in gently yet quickly etching the rune into the offered arm.
It glitters of Soul, of the very divine light that persists even through the darkness of their very being, in almost a kind of poetry before fading from view. And it hurts none. They would know. They have the very same rune etched into their neck.
Protection against her variant of mind control.
They then step back and move to open the door.
Now that their sibling has recovered a little... had the time needed... it's time to see about rectifying that hole in their head.]
They look at their arm, then they look and point at Holly's prosthetic arm.
[Holly’s gaze follows the pointing. An invisible line from one limb to their own. They seem to ponder the unspoken inquiry, somewhat unsure of its precise meaning, before sucking in a breath.
They’re winding up for something. And then, with quiet quality to it—soft and delicate like wind chimes—they try to speak aloud.
An opportunity for practice they have been lacking. Neglected. It would be good to try now.]
“P… pro… protection. Yes.
But. Of d… iffer… ent. Different. Likes.
S… stops. Her. It… yours… does.”
They start grasping at their head in pain.
[In turn, Holly cannot help frowning, a small click of discontent escaping them. Discontent not with their sibling, but with themself.
They thought that they had been getting better at this sort of thing. But clearly, they remain as awkward (and insensitive) as ever. And so, they can do little more than stare, uncertain on what to do exactly.
They aren't equipped to deal with this sort of thing.
They didn't even deal with their own troubles properly.
Still. Despite themself, they shake their head and wind up to start speaking aloud.]
"No. G... gone is she. N... not here."
[They tap on their head where their own fracture is. Albeit one nowhere close to being as severe as their sibling's. A tiny pang of sympathy worms its way in anew. It's only a small part of their sibling's troubles. Much of that lies beyond the physical, but getting that fixed could be a good start.]
"Fix it. Y... your w... ound. We should.
But. Away. B... beyond here."
[Still standing by the doorway, they extend a hand out.]
They look back up at their siblin extending their hand.
They stand back up and grabs it.
[Their intent (thankfully) gleaned true, Holly stands hunched so as to properly accommodate the hand-holding, and leads their sibling out. They close the door behind them and with a flash, teleport out and into the city where they stand before the sanctum.
Holly isn't sure what their sibling knows of it. If they know anything at all of it, but rather than trying to venture in immediately, they point to it and tilt their head. It's a silent question. A gauging of whether or not they would be willing to step inside.]
They seem rather scared of the building, but if their sibling thinks it's safe, then it's safe.
They start pulling on your cloak to get your attention.

Thank you for your help young child...
Now go...
Live your life...
Just remember...
The one who brought you back...
They wake up in a cold sweat.
They are scared.
Her...
You sense something in ancient basin calling to you.
It's similar to the one you produced in the black egg temple.
Maybe it would be a good idea to investigate.
@vessel-broken
[Memories swirl to the forefront of their mind; bright, sharp, and searing, even in the deep darkness of the temple itself.
The… call…
It reverberates like echoes of the call they once made themself, but without exact words placed to it. It bumps around in their mind in a way that’s difficult to ignore.
It is a distress call after all.
Kin…?
… is all they dare think any further before rather quickly teleporting to the source.]
As Holly appears before them, they run away to hide behind some rocks.
[Recognition instantly seeps into them.
A Vessel. Kin. Sibling.
Not one that they know exactly, but a sibling all the same. A part of them longs to reach out and offer assurance, seeing the fear all too clear in the way the other runs to hide. But, the more rational part has them take to looking around, body tensed and at the ready to... dispose of whatever barrels through.
The distress call was made for a reason after all.]
They come out, with their old, rusty, broken nail shaking and pointing it right at them.
[They blink, then stoop down so that they aren’t as imposing, but without moving any closer. Their body remains slightly tensed and their dark gaze falls squarely upon the nail pointed out, noting its degraded condition and the condition of their sibling.
(How… long has their sibling been here like… this…?)
Then a tilt of their head and a telepathic message is pushed out.]
/ Why do you react with aggression? Do you not recognize your own kin…? /
They jump in suprise from getting the thought of someone else in their mind.
Last one who did it was her
They start even shaking more in fear
[The answer cuts through clearly, a definitive pang of guilt shooting through Holly in its wake, and with it a kind of… resolve to rectify things.
How to communicate… how to communicate…
A moment passes before a finger (of black shell) is somewhat clumsily stuck in the dirt to write out a message: “Sorry. I mean you no harm.”
Then an illustration, rather crude and childish in its form and largely reliant upon stick figure-like etchings, is made under it. It’s of Holly themself with their nail drawn and the broken Vessel across, but gigantic X is put through their own nail.
They even show their open hands, waved to and fro, to indicate the lack of intent to harm before backing away a few steps so that their sibling (if they wish to) may gain the opportunity to see the revised communication.
If neither of these work, imperfect and faulty as it is, they will have to try speaking aloud…]
Although they are still shaking they are doing it less now.
They start drawing in the dirt, drawing an arrow pointing to them, with a question mark under it.
[Holly notes the reduced shaking, a trickle of satisfaction coming through, and what seems to be their sibling’s preferred communication.
Absolutely no more mind-speak. Not with them. It is quite likely that the intrusion brings up certain… memories… ones to which they can relate.
Holly approaches the dirt anew and draws more before stepping back. Of childish likes, as was the case before, the images are as follows:
The Pale King and the White Lady, a horizontal line connecting the two, then a line dropping down and expanding out to point to new drawings of Holly and the broken Vessel.
A sort of incomplete family tree. The intended message: “I am your sibling.”
And then. Another picture of the broken Vessel, sound waves drawn coming from their head and a question mark drawn over it. The intended message: “You called out. Why?”.]
The look on their state should answer the question.
Malnourished, hurt, scared and tired.
They want to get away from this.
[When Holly doesn't receive a response, they resort to deduction.
Unblinking and with an expression most impassive... they stare.
They had presumed that there was some kind of threat that had frightened their poor sibling so... but perhaps it is merely this... place and the condition they are in, in general.
After some deliberation... they approach the dirt patch anew and create another illustration. This time, it depicts the basin as a whole in an exceedingly simplified format--all simple shapes with few details--and an arrow pointing out. Beneath the arrow is yet another illustration of Holly and the broken Vessel, but they're holding hands.
Roughly, this translates to:
"Would you like to leave this place? I can help you leave."]
They start shaking their head up and down.
[To that, with their false arm of metal, they gently point to their opposing hand. Beckoning for their sibling to take it.]
They grab their metalic arm.
They still shake despite that.
[There is a twinge of pride that comes in seeing their arm taken.
That takes courage.
They offer a few of the most awkward (yet no less sincere in intent) pats ever, as delicate as can be, to their sibling's shoulder before straightening up. They then teleport themself and their sibling out...
... and before the hot springs within the Crossroads.
They had originally thought about going to Dirtmouth, but this place may be better to start with first. They then point at the water, dropping to a crouch and sticking their own hand in it to show that it's safe.]
They dip their foot (nub?) In the water, before walking in to it and sitting in it.
(Comfy)
[Holly themself sits down at the edge and dips only their own feet into the water. Then... up-and-down, above and below the water's shimmery surface, do they move said appendages.
They're splashing in the water a little to themself.
A thing that they seem to enjoy it would seem.
After a few rounds of entertaining themself thusly, they look to their sibling, so as to ascertain their state. Does this help any at all? They initially seemed comfortable enough at least...]
They look at Holly.
You can see how malnourished they are.
[Holly notes their state anew and resolves to take their sibling to Dirtmouth and give them something to consume. As much as is needed to see them sated. But, first the time spent here needs to be permitted to run its course.
They point between the two of them and then towards the exit, head tilting at the end. It's a silent question. One that asks... that beckons to tell Holly themself when they are satisfied with the hot springs in full.
At the very least, they do seem to have calmed down.]
The lay on their back, submerging themselves in the water.
[Noting the answer given in kind… they resolve to give their sibling the time needed.
While they are (somewhat) pressed for time, wanting to get to building that snare as they do, this is important as well.
They’ll simply wait until their sibling wishes to leave. Until then, it may be worth trying to think through the semantics of that snare some more.]
They then stand up, and looks at Holly.
[Holly doesn't notice at first.
Their thoughts loop in a (somewhat circular) tangent; mainly flickering between the snare and the very objects of protection, against Essence-based mind control, that they had long since distributed to the bugs of Hallownest. On what else they could do...
Eventually, a minute or two passes, before they look over. Head tilts and a metallic finger questioningly gestures to the exit, feet dipping out of the water as they rise to a stand. Ready.]
They shake their head up and down
[An affirmative nod and they motion for the other to stick close and follow as they leave. The destination? Dirtmouth of course. The goal? seeing to it that their sibling is fed… something.
Chocolate maybe?
They had briefly paused, upon gaining certain information of import, to try their claws at making some. A minor project to destress a little and develop the skill required to make something for their father for when he wakes up. A small sort of congratulations.
Periodically, as the two walk the somewhat short distance to Dirtmouth, Holly glances at their sibling. One part, to make sure that the other is still there. Another part? a sort of internal conflict held over whether or not to try at the... "small talk".
They are curious. They would like to know their sibling more. And so, eventually they point to their sibling, head tilting to the side anew.
"What is your name?" seems to be the intended meaning.]
They shake their shoulders and tilts their head.
(They don't have a name)
[They nod slowly, conveying a sense of understanding, before rightening their head and sneaking a glance ahead.
Almost there.
Rare is it that they inquire about names, often forgetting such niceties as they do.
They turn to look at a slab of stone nearby on the last climb up that would take the two out of the Crossroads and into Dirtmouth.
Sharp claw extended out, they scrape into the stone to create a rather basic image cut in sharp points and rough edges; a holly tree. They then point to themself.
Rarer yet is it that they remember to give their own name out to others.
They then climb up and into the town before making their way over to a home and opening the door. It’s an offer for their sibling to enter.]
They slowly enters the hut and looks around.
[Holly follows suit shortly after, bending and twisting and contorting their body in ways that most would find painful, to step inside as well. They close the door shut and gesture to a few pieces of misshapen, but cooled milk chocolate sitting atop a plate on a nearby table.
It’s an offer to take some and eat. Their gaze then falls upon the fridge and they start thinking about what else might be suitable to give…]
They take the chocolate and consumes it.
They then rush to the fridge, opens it and starts devouring everything in it.
(Hope you didn't have anything special in there)
[It bothers them none.
No more than a vaguely bemused blink passes before they recover. Though they didn’t expect the sudden go for all the food—none of which was especially extraordinary—it makes a sad sort of sense. Pressed in a ponderance they never linger on for long or very deeply; the living conditions of siblings that got left behind.
A pang of sympathy shoots through. The woes of another sibling—the Shade Lord themself, of a split path—hauntingly echo through their mind, and with it comes a thought. The thought of just how… fortunate they actually were to have been picked, even if only as a tool.
They look to the gaping hole in their sibling’s head and squint. Either mother or Hermes should have a look at that. Soon. As it is now…
… maybe a nap is due for that sibling of theirs?
Holly points to a nearby bed—a stark contrast to the under furnished, minimalistic, and barely lived-in ways of the space—and tilts their head.]
They look at the bed, rush to it, climbs onto it, and is dead asleep.
You sense something in ancient basin calling to you.
It's similar to the one you produced in the black egg temple.
Maybe it would be a good idea to investigate.
@vessel-broken

Ready.]
They shake their head up and down
You sense something in ancient basin calling to you.
It's similar to the one you produced in the black egg temple.
Maybe it would be a good idea to investigate.
