Mother of Dragons at the Sea of Stars
This is a piece from August, the first finished piece I had done in some years, after what seemed an endless dark age without inspiration.
But there it was this time and it wouldn't let me stop. Even though the motivation was bleak and it's original purpose proved futile in the end, I finished the painting.
Motivation came from an art contest who’s theme was “dragon wings”.
I made this painting limiting my palette to the CMYK range of colors, which ultimately made it really difficult to capture the incredible beauty of the blue light emitted by bioluminescent dinoflagellates at night.
