My eyes flutter open to see rays of light dancing above me with the leaves of a tree I laid beneath. Suddenly a warm hand begins to caress my cheek being accompanied with a soothing hum. I accepted the comfort of a stranger, a stranger whose touch felt so familiar? I was resting my head on their lap almost in a strange trance. I didn't bother to lift my head to meet their face, I was okay here, with the unknown.
âGood girl, just relax, give all your worries to the breezeâ, the unfamiliar voice cooed.
I closed my eyes once more at the voiceâs gentle commands.
âThatâs it, I wonât let anything hurt youâ, the voice reassured. âSo long as you stay obedient, I won't let anything harm youâ.Â
My eyes flung open to such obscured requests, I lifted my face from the figure's lap to be met with a woman in a white veil that refrained me from seeing her facial features. âWho are you?â, I questioned.
âWhy, you donât recognize your own friend?â She questioned back.
âMy friend?â, I focus my eyes onto hers trying to make out her face behind the veil in disbelief.
âLook around you my deer, this is what your hometown has come toâ, She narrated as what was a field of grass and trees turned to ash in an instant. âThe Hounds are now your family, they will supply all your needsâ, she reassured.
âItâs because of the Hounds I have nowhere to call a home now!â, I snapped back.
âDonât let our death be for nothingâ, She said sternly as she grabbed my hand.
I began to feel panic growing in the pit of my stomach as the sudden urge to run away crawled up my spine, âsomething isnât right hereâ. I attempted to pull away but to no avail. I looked down at my hand that was now being crushed by the woman to see a strange formation beginning to form down her arm, red crystals. I slowly watched paralyzed by fear as the crystals now engulfed my hand into hers. I slowly looked up in horror to see my now deceased friend Kikio staring back at me as the veil dropped revealing her face that was also being consumed by the crystal shards like it did the last day I saw her.Â
âPlease donât let me die for nothingâ, she whispered as her face was now fully crystallized, immortalizing her cold stare of disappointment.
âKikio, I'm sorry!â I screamed only to find myself yet again in the same bed I've woken up to once before, âthis is starting to get annoying.
I found Pricilla sitting at the edge of the bed holding the same hand Kikio was holding in my dream.Â
âIs everything okay? You seemed to have had a nightmareâ, she reassured in a similar tone to that of the Kikio in my dream.
I noticed an unfamiliar figure standing in the room accompanied by Prachi who stood beside them, it was one of the council members in that same red robe and mask. I laid there in shock âwhat would one of them be doing in my bedroom?â I sunk deeper and deeper into my bed as a means of getting away.Â
âFear not child, I have come personally to congratulate you on your new matchâ, said the mask figure in the room. âDue to your quirk being of such high value to the Hounds we have paired you up with just not any suitor but one of high respectsâ, they proceeded to explain âYou will be escorted off the base accompanied by guards to meet your match, I personally will be in charge of setting up the arrangement therefore from there you are expected to fulfill your duties as a Dam. For your sake I highly encourage you to comply and not get any ideas of escaping during this process, You are now the Houndâs jewel you will act accordinglyâ, the figure bowed their head and slowly exited the room.Â
âOh, and before I forget, you will be summoned for a ceremonial feast in celebration of the news, please look and act your bestâ, he excused himself out of the room.
âWhat the fuck was that? "I questioned still glued to my bed.
âYour crystal shards have garnered you the highest respect to the hounds, it is your blood that has blessed them with even more riches they now use for currency they are calling you a âblood saintâ, because of that other major villainous groups have offered their most powerful members as Siresâ, Prachi explained.   Â
âI wonder who they have chosen for me, I hope he's hotâ, I teased nervously.
Both women looked over at each other as we all stood there in silence for a moment only to suddenly burst out laughing knowing how terrified we all were deep down, got to find humor in every situation I guess.Â
Prachi and Pricilla proceeded to get me dressed for the banquet, this time instead of my usual white robes they draped me in red with the usual red veil, gold cuffs on my wrist and along with a golden halo crown sprinkled in red jewels, my blood jewels. With one last look in the mirror I had now embodied âLa Santa Sangreâ which translates to âthe blood saintâ.Â
Down the hall I was escorted by my posse, this time both Pricilla and Prachi had the âblessingâ of coming with me as they stood close by me in adorning me with their golden robes similar to mine. Come to think of it, this was the first time I had ever seen them outside of my chambers. I felt safer with them being here with me. Pricilla grabbed my hand using her quirk making me feel an instant shot of confidence run through my veins calming my nervous system, this was now my moment.Â
A sudden swing of the two grand doors we walked into the banquet hall where of course all ten council members stood behind the grand table mimicking âThe Last Supperâ in their usual get up only they too were decorated in red jewelry wearing my blood as a fad, absolutely repulsed me. Everyone else were people in ranked 6 and up wearing midnight blue with red trimming on their uniforms. The haul was decorated in red, midnight blue and gold. We spent that night eating a grand meal while the council silently watched us unphased, leaning into each other every now and then to exchange whispers as the room felt silent. All eyes were on me in both awe and hatred, I didnât ask to be the hound's âjewelâ after all, I wanted nothing more but to leave that room. Little did I know this would actually be my last night here with the hounds.
Once the feast was over the council were the first to leave then the rest of us were excused back to our assigned rankings. I spent the rest of that night with Pricilla and Prachi knowing that by tomorrow I will be sent to an unknown location to be met with my suitor not sure how long or even if I will ever see them again, to this day I'm glad I cherished that last night them, they had became my family one I also had to let go of.Â
That night was short lived as we spent it talking, laughing and crying. Next thing I knew I was lying awake in bed wedged between the two girls who had fallen asleep alongside me. They too slowly woke up right after me, we sat there confused but yet pleased with the silent morning for it was a rarity here, but the feeling was quickly interrupted as the atmosphere shifted to an unsettling one. From here on out I don't know what waits for me beyond this prison, I am not quite sure what will be worse.Â
Both girls grabbed my hands sensing the unsettling panic rising in me which instantly began to ease away due to Pricilla's quirk. Prachi followed by placing her hand on my shoulder, her warm touch engulfed my body, I can feel these women healing me both physically and emotionally. I closed my eyes along with them in a prayer as I accepted this fate, my glimmery scabs reflected off of them in what seemed to be such a magical moment, one that would be the last.Â
Prachi and Pricilla gave me a ritualistic bath of roses and essential oils and proceeded to get me dressed one last time. The usual red veil, robes, and gold cuffs to remind me that I am still a slave to the hounds no matter where I go. With one final look of approval on both the ladies' faces I was now ready to be sent away to my new orders, and right on que came a knock on the door.
The same hooded figure from the council came in from before, both women bowed their heads as the figure bowed theirs followed by a sudden lift of the red mask to reveal their face when suddenly, âWhy does he look so familiar?â.
âWell hello old friendâ, the voice greeted me.
I began bawling my eyes out as I ran into his arms, it was my friend Raj back at rank one.Â
âCrazy to see how far we have come isnât it?â he joked as we embraced.Â
I couldnât believe it was him all along keeping a close eye on me.
âListen we donât have a lot of time, this is actually a set up to get you out of here,â my heart dropped at his words. âI've been working with someone on the outside, the council thinks they are simply agreeing to breed with you in turn for a soldier but little do they know this âbreederâ is in on it as well. Once you are handed over to them you will be safe, please do as they sayâ, he said sternly while holding my face and looking into my eyes.Â
I was still processing everything frozen in shock, âHow did you know I was here?â
âPrachi is my blood sister, I assigned her to you to keep an eye out along with Pricilla who I trust, we are all working together along with several others to get children out of hereâ.
âAnd what will happen to you all when I go?!â
âSsh, donât worry about it. You need to get out of here and be free, I have people on the outside now we will be okayâ, he said, easing my panic as he caressed my face. âAlso one last thing before you go, take thisâ, He said as he reached into his pocket to pull out a gold chain with a gem, it was the shard of Kikio Prachi had saved for me that was now made into a necklace.
Raj placed the necklace around my neck under my veil out of view and placed his forehead on mine in a moment of prayer, Prachi and Pricilla joined, placing their hands on me in a final moment of goodbye, it was time to go.Â
I was quickly escorted down the hall into an underground tunnel that let to a giant garage of weaponry, there was a giant Van waiting for my arrival with guards holding the back doors open, with a final look at Raj who was back into is council uniform and demeanor nodded in approval letting me know I would be safe.
âProtect her at all cost, this is the Houndâs jewel you are escorting, your lives depend on itâ, he demanded as I was placed into the van and the doors shut behind me. I was once again alone in silence as I looked out the window wanting so desperately to run to Raj and hug him one last time but couldnât since we had an appearance we needed to keep up with the hounds. That was the last I ever got to see him.
The journey was a long and excruciating one, so many times did they have to transfer me onto cars and planes. At this point I had no idea where I was and how far from the base I am and how much longer it would take to get to where we were headed. I was exhausted to the point that I no longer cared, I simply just wanted to get there already. Moments later we were at a sudden halt, I couldn't see anything since the windows were covered.
I could hear what sounded like a giant metal door opening with a few exchanges of words in a foreign language I have never heard before. The car began to move slowly when all of a sudden I could hear a loud pop from all four tires of the car following my yelling and shooting. I quickly ducked down unsure of what was going on until I remembered what Raj had told me before I left âthis is actually a set up to get you out of hereâ.Â
I clung tightly to my necklace of Kikio â you have to live on for the both of us⌠please⌠get out of here, find a way out⌠fall in love with a strong⌠handsome⌠brave man like we always talked about,â Kikioâs final words chimed in my mind when suddenly the doors flung open blinding me by the light whenâŚred, all I can see where red feathers everywhereâŚ

âAre any of us really ever okay here? Maybe she can save herself by never waking up Stay trapped in whatever dream you are in, you are better off than waking up to this ugly reality you hear?â
I can hear distant voices slowly growing louder, My vision faded in and out trying to make sense of the figures looming over me. I slowly make out two pairs of eyes when I shoot straight up from my resting spot.
âWell shit, you have been warnedâ, muttered the same voice that snapped me into this reality.
The two maids sat on both ends of the bed I had been laid to rest in, they slowly got up and brought golden trays of food fit for a king.
âEat up, You fainted due to the amount of blood loss from yesterdayâs battleâ, said the same maid in a tired and monotone voice accompanied by the colorless expression on her face.Â
Without a word the smell of food hit my nose as my survival instinct kicked in, next thing I knew I was stuffing my face not even realizing that the two women still hadn't left the room and stood there watching in almost disgust.
âHere you have to try this!â I shouted shamelessly in excitement as I held out a grilled limb of poultry in their direction.
One of the girls drooled being very tempted by my offer.
âDonât you even dare, do you realize how much trouble you can get into if the higher ranks see you eating food that wasnât assigned to you?â Said the other stern maid.
âWell itâs your loss, with all the shit they put us through I am taking my chances in whatever little pleasures I can get. Better than being obedient and miserable, besides, what else could they possibly do to me? At this point death is more favorable,â I proceeded to chow down my meal purposefully, leaving some aside for the maids to join me.Â
The more shy maid stood there silently watching for a moment when she unexpectedly joined me on my bed taking a handful of food and scarfing it down without another word.
âAnd I lost her,â scoffed the other.
âShe has a point, I'd rather die of a worthy cause such as food than to live my life obediently dull and flavorless. Hmmm you should try this! Itâs delicious!â I successfully won one of them over.
The other slowly climbed on the bed with us grabbing a piece of buttered bread, as if to believe that the least fulfilling piece of food would grant her a lesser punishment. She slowly brought it to her lips as the other maid and I eagerly waited for her reaction, and with one bite she too desperately began to devour her food joining us in this frenzy.
The maids began to slowly open up to me revealing their names and quirks and how they ended up here. One of them was named Pricilla and the other Prachi, Pricilla was the shy one of the two and her quirk garnered her, her ranking due to the fact that she's able to manipulate peoples emotions by making eye contact with them, she was deemed highly useful to the hounds, I wondered why they assigned her to me for the matter. Prachi on the other hand is the more stern one that hardly shows any emotion, despite her cold attitude she can use the sun to charge her energy like a plant during photosynthesis, but also transfers that energy onto another person to speed the process of healing within the body, like a reiki master. I can also see why she is also highly favored by the counsel. I was a little skeptical, after all these two were assigned to me for a reason, but regardless after the loss of my best friend I would take any company.Â
âI donât understand how you could possibly act so unbothered despite the counsel discussing breeding you like one of their brood damsâ, asked Prachi.
âAt least now you won't have to fight anymore, the damâs are treated like royalty here in order to keep them in perfect shape for reproduction, youâll have plenty of meals like these, it doesn't seem like such a bad dealâ, argued Pricilla.Â
The term âdamâ is referred to a female dog that is used for breeding purposes, opposed to the men who are referred to as âsireâ, if you were to be considered âbreed-ableâ by the counsel, that made you an automatic rank eight and just like how Pricilla mentioned before you were pretty much considered a prize possession by the counsel. Soon enough they will be assigning me to a male abettor they see fit based on the compatibility of our quirks. âLovely isnât itâ.
Before I could process a response there was a sudden knock at the door. Both maids jumped up at the sudden noise, it never being a good sign, as they quickly wiped their fingers leaving no trace of their prey. They stood quietly beside the bed with their hands folded behind them and their heads hanging low in shame, this was definitely a different mannerism from before. The two same men entered the room in their usual formation.Â
âGood to see you are feeling better, the counsel has unfinished business with you, you will be joining us in the labs to run further tests. You two, quickly get her dressedâ, Barked one of the guards as they exited the room and waited outside on stand by.
âWhat test could they possibly want to run on me?â, with that thought I had barely realized the cluster gem that was left of Kikio was no longer fused to my hand. âWhere is she!?âI quickly jumped looking all over the bedroom.
âUhm, who?â, the two maids looked over at each other in confusion.
âKikio, she was here with me yesterday and now she's gone!â I was on the verge of tears since it was all I had of her.
âYou mean that crystal? It was removed from your hand last night after you fainted, they needed it for examination of the properties of your quirk, that's probably why they need to run more tests on you to get a better idea of how your blood will react when breedingâ, explained Pricilla.Â
I began to hyperventilate feeling as though I betrayed Kikio once more having lost the remnants of her.Â
âHey, hey. Itâs okay, calm down, I was able to save a piece,â whispered Prachi as she handed me a folded handkerchief to reveal a small piece of a red shard beneath the folds.Â
âHow did you get that?â questioned Pricilla.
âI heard one of the guards talking about how her blood crystals might actually hold some value, so I chipped a piece away when she was asleep, I was originally going to save it for myself⌠you know, for when I get out I had something to use as payment, but seeing how much it means to you I guess you can have it, I mean you can always make more right?â Prachi further explained.
âThank you!â I threw my hands around Prachi engulfing her in a tight embrace.Â
Prachi, shocked at my response, lightly patted my back, not being used to such affection.Â
âHere Iâll keep it somewhere safe in the meantime, you canât be seen with it otherwise it will be confiscatedâ, Prachi quickly folded the jewel back into the handkerchief out of sight and rushed me over to the dressing room before the two guards came wondering in as to why itâs taking us so long.
They swiftly changed me to my usual white robe with a matching white hood to obscure my face as I was escorted down the hall by the two guards. I was brought into a white laboratory room with a white chair in the center where I was placed, they strapped me as more white hooded figures flooded the room surrounding me, poking me with needles.Â
âLeave no drop wasted, you will all be examined before leaving the lab so donât get any ideasâ, announced one of the guards as they stood back and watched the hooded figures do their work.
Slowly I began to dose off as they injected me with some clear liquid, I was out in minutes not being able to recall any of this encounter which was preferred at this rate if I had no say in the matter. I woke up as quickly as I passed out, I could see figures alongside the guards with their backs turned against me reading out loud the analysis. They didnât realize I had been awake.Â
âSeems as though whenever her blood comes into contact with foreign blood it has some sort of reaction where it begins to crystalize taking over the others, with that said do to the fact that it is contaminated by the other hosts blood the value of the crystals themselves are not as high from getting it directly from her blood streamâ.
âSo the idea of using her blood to inject it into others in order to create more crystals would be a no goâ.
âNot exactly, we can still use her blood to create human crystals for currency; it just wouldn't be as valuable compared to the source itselfâ.
âWhich is good because the more crystals we produce regardless the less value they will have, mind you the gem Argyle Everglow gets its value due to how rare the gem itself is, as long as the hounds possess the girl we will be sitting filthy rich!â
âWere my ears deceiving me? Are the hounds really plotting to start a human farm to create more crystals like what happened to Kikio?!â, suddenly my thoughts were interrupted by a loud beeping coming from the machine next to me I had been attached to with wires.Â
Several of the figures rushed over to me to inject me with more of that same liquid as I tried to fight back on the strapped chair, I met my defeat once more.
I wailed in utter agony as I laid there, Kiko was my first best friend, first love, and first heartbreak. I couldn't bring myself to move at all, wishing that this rusted old factory would crumble down on us so I wouldnât have to continue forward without her. However, the glittering shards of my quirk seemed to be extending into Kikioâs body without any direction on my part. I could only watch in shock as her whole body was slowly engulfed and converted into crystal formation. I found myself unable to pull away from the horror in front of me, the sight of my best friend becoming nothing but a human shaped gem cluster. For the last time that night I screamed in absolute terror as my mind attempted to comprehend the morbid implications of my quirk. Â
to be continued... Â Â .Â
Here we were again⌠same cold metal seats in this same old van with the same old two men minus one of us now. I was shoved back into the van that embarked me on this terrible journey once more, my heavy hand hanging loosely due to the added weight of the crystal clusters that were the remnants of Kikioâs hand that grasped mine in her final hours. They had to break her crystalized hand in order to cut me loose, still having processed what had just happened I no longer had it in me to make sense of what became my life.
Suddenly the van came to a halt, the two men escorted my empty shell of a body out, leaving me blind folded until we were back inside base. My eyes greeted the floor not even bothering to examine my surroundings, âdo what you want, I have nothing to fight for nowâ, little did I realize I would regret such thoughts. I obediently walked behind the men who escorted me through the old halls Kikio and I used to patrol together, this place was looming with painful memories now. As we were about to reach our old bedroom the two men continued walking, I was confused not knowing where they could possibly be taking me but too emotionally exhausted to even ask.
âYou will be shown to your new chambers, from there you will have two maids to help you get cleaned up for the counselâ, One of the men explained sternly expecting me to protest, having dealt with my combative ass before⌠but no, not this time, I just simply quietly followed.Â
âDid you hear me?â he snapped once more only for me to be unresponsive to his snarl.
In that moment even he seemed a little caught off guard.
Just as he narrated before, I was greeted to my new bedroom that was a lot more extravagant than anything I was ever used to. The bed was draped in red silk sheets along with gold trimming, which was the consistent theme in this room. I have never touched such fine fabric before in my life. As much as a part of me wanted to throw my worn out body onto that ridiculous bedding another part of me couldnât help but feel undeserving of it.Â
Two beautiful women in gold drapes immediately proceeded to undress me with the two guards still present, âyeah take a good look at this fine ass because you'll soon be kissing itâ, I thought provokingly despite the menâs gaze keeping straight ahead blankly.
âMake sure she looks presentable to the counsel, your lives depend on itâ, one of the men ordered as they both exited the room.
âDonât listen to that guy, they are both full of shitâ, I muttered to the women as they quickly undressed me and set a bath full of roses and other herbal bath salts whose aroma brought new sensations to my nose.
The women slowly submerged my fragile body into the elixir that was this bath, every cell in my body let go as I sank to the bottom of the tub only having the peak of my face rest at the surface for air. My red hair swayed beneath the water gently grazing my neck and shoulders as if to comfort me, and in that moment I began to cry my final tears for my beloved friend Kikio as I clutched the crystal cluster still fused to my hand over my chest. I took whatever little feeling of comfort I could get in that moment, who knew what would become of me next.
Sunk down to hide the fact that I was crying, I closed my eyes to be greeted with silence beneath the water, it felt almost⌠peaceful? âIs this what that's meant to feel like?â I could stay like this forever wondering why my quirk could have been something simple like breathing underwater? I would swim down to the deepest parts of the ocean and just stay there, becoming one with whatever creatures I met roamed there. I canât help but wonder if my life would have been easier? Would the Bloodhounds leave me alone due to my quirk being of no use to them? My thoughts were suddenly interrupted as I began to lose air, My eyes shot open to see the two women standing over in concern above the water.
I sat right up gasping for air when the two women got straight to scrubbing me down for the remainder of the bath. I wasnât used to this kind of treatment but I didnât argue knowing that if they didnât comply with their previous demands, who knows what would be done to them, I didnât want to be responsible for someone elseâs death. They quickly dried me down preparing me for my ceremonial sacrifice âor at least that's how it felt likeâ. I stood before the full body mirror seeing my nude reflection covered in shimmering scabs of all the places Kikioâs attacks landed on me. The women stood there in awe seeing the light reflect off of my glimmering scabs and dance around the room. I caught myself almost flustered and embarrassed by their reaction as I became more self aware. They quickly snapped out of it and went back to their duties draping me with a white robe that was fitting for a cult, âwhat is this, initiation?â turns out I wasnât far off.
Once I was deemed presentable the two same men came back to my chambers to escort me out and into the corridor that seemed to get darker with every step. We then stood before two grand doors that opened exaggeratingly for a grand entrance of what seemed to be a meeting hall for politicians. I was blinded by the red empty room that only housed a singular tall U shaped table that seated ten figures, one figure representing one rank, also draped in red cloaks with hoods that had pointed ears like wolves wearing blank red masks âthey are really taking this whole Bloodhound name seriouslyâ.Â
The hooded figures towered over, examining my presence. I looked them straight in the eye in defiance, these people are the ones responsible for everything that happened to me the moment they stripped me away from my family, my friends back in cell one, Raj, and now Kikio. I have no respect or fear left in me for these people.Â
âUnrobe her,â demanded one of them immediately. My heart cringed at such a disgusting demand.
The two men who escorted me here began to loosen my robes and drape them off me to reveal my glimmering body once more. I stood there naked and completely vulnerable. It wasn't just my clothes they stripped me of but what little pride I had left in me.
âShe seems healthy enough,â one commented, breaking the awkward silence in the room.
âYes she will make a great subject to procreation, her quirk along with others will create a powerful armyâ, suggested another.
âP-procreate?! They are going to breed me like a fucking dog?!âI tried so hard to control myself when I wanted nothing more than to grab my robes and run away but where would I go? I can feel my adrenaline kicking in as I feel my heart palpitate throughout my body canceling out whatever disgusting, vile exchange of words that came out of the counselâs mouth as they discuss my fate. Just as I thought my life couldnât get any worse, the whole room went dark as my body collapsed to the floor and there it was again, that familiar sound⌠silence.Â
At the time I had not realized that my actions in the arena that day attracted the full attention of the top ranking members. The Bloodhounds operated on a tiered system, the higher the rank the better your âlifeâ could be. Those with strong or useful quirks often rose very quickly within the system especially once members became aware of the benefits. Better food, housing, clothing, even escorts willing to appease needs of the flesh. However, this reward system was nothing but a pretty little lie. Everything you did was controlled right down to what you ate, wore, even who you spoke to. Any signs of retaliation would cost you your own life, because thatâs what we were in the end⌠disposable weapons. To even see the outside world you needed to be assigned on a mission and with a group of proven members. Those groups ranged in size depending on the severity of the jobs, everything was tightly controlled and watched by those in the top ranks. Common missions included collecting âprotectionâ fees, âresearchâ and âcollectionâ of new members, and assassinations. Â
I was escorted out of the arena once my fight was finally over to meet with another member who was waiting for me in a separate room, their badge designated them as a rank 4 member. This person wore much nicer clothes and smiled at me while tossing over a uniform similar to his.Â
âWelcome to the team,â he said mischievously. I changed out of the old sackcloth clothes into this new uniform that surprisingly fit me like a glove. Red and royal blue, the same colors that emerged from the smoke that greeted me to this ugly fate. The colors of the Bloodhounds now painted me, claiming me as one of their own. Â
After I was given my new uniform they took me away to another campus immediately, this one was kept in much better condition than the previous location. I wasnât even allowed to say goodbye to my cellmates, we had become close but many were scattered either to higher rankings or killed during proving fights.  The first lesson of this new life I was taught was to never grow attached to anyone for it was not certain we would meet again.Â
I was given a tour of my new home upon arrival, much like the last place there were the standard areas, training grounds, living and eating spaces, etc. After my tour I was shown to my room which I would be sharing with another member. Despite how nice my new lodgings were, I found myself missing the group I started out with, especially Raj. My roommate was a girl, a couple years older than me, who was always so cold and stern despite the nature of her quirk, heat manipulation. She could increase her body heat to such high temperatures that anything she touches turns to plasma. Thankfully because of my own diamond quirk, I am naturally heat resistant to high temperatures but even I have a limit. Kikio was her name, we did everything together as required by leadership despite our feelings towards one another. This was their way to prevent anyone from stepping out of line and getting any ideas.
At first we couldnât stand each other, especially being the only two girls in a male dominated field. We were always competing against one another, feeding into that toxic mentality that was implanted in us to âprove ourselvesâ whatever the fuck that meant. Eventually we got tired of all the misogyny that we began to crack jokes at the guys in training, this formed a tentative friendship between us. We knew we couldnât get too close to each other for it was forbidden, but that didn't stop us from cracking a joke here and there and rooting for each other when no one was looking. Kikio was a total badass.
Once we were settled into our rankings we were assigned alias by leadership. You would think we would at least have the freedom to choose our own names, but when I say everything was picked for you, I meant everything. My Alias became âEverglowâ, a reference to the rare red diamond âArgyle Everglowâ. Kikiâs became known as âPlasma Panicâ, or âPlazâ for short. I was becoming more accustomed to my new life here, but I was determined more than ever to see the home I was slowly starting to forget. Buying into that impression that if I worked hard enough I would get to go back, but to what exactly? I trained with all the other kids despite being one of the youngest in this rank along with Kiki. By the time I turned sixteen I had earned rank five while proving my loyalty to the Bloodhounds. However, In order to rank up beyond level five, you were required to join a mission, one that involved getting blood on your hands, hint the name âBloodhoundsâ.
Our group was sent on a âmissionâ with three other sixth rank members to supervise. Only members of ranks five through seven were permitted to leave the hound base with an assigned partner. My partner and I were blindfolded and loaded into a van as they drove off to the destination, that way we were not able to memorize our surroundings in case we got any ideas of escaping. Now doesnât this feel familiar. The drive felt like hours as we sat there in the dark, slowly the sounds of civilization began ringing through my ears, children laughing, vendors shouting, parents scolding voices. It was a life I had almost forgotten about, and one that I had come to terms with being an impossibility for me. The sounds slowly drifted as we drove further and further away to somewhere more secluded. We finally came to a stop and were roughly dragged out of the vehicle before being forced to kneel in the dirt.Â
Our blindfolds were ripped off of our eyes to reveal an abandoned factory,Â
âYou come with us,â said one man grabbing my partner, Kiki, by the arm before guiding her into the factory. Worry struck in my chest not knowing what they were going to do to her, I was suddenly grabbed by the shoulder and yanked back from going after her by one of the men standing beside me.
âWe will be staying out here to guard the gate,â he said apathetically. I looked over at him in frustration, this was the first time ever we were separated since being paired up. We waited until Kiki and her handler were no longer in view, âAlright,â said the apathetic man âwe have suspected your partner to be a traitor to the Hounds,â he continued.Â
I glared over at him in anger âLies! I've been with her since day one from joining rank four, I would have known!âÂ
âAnd a little birdie told me that you are conspiring with her,â He narrowed his eyes at me menacingly.
âWhat a load of shit,â I spat back.
âThe only way you can prove your loyalty to the Hounds is by taking her out, otherwise you will both be executed,â My heart sunk at his command.Â
First my family, then Raj and the others, and now my only friend. I brushed away my angry tears before he could notice. These fuckers really took everything from me.Â
âWe made you who you are, you owe the Hounds everything,â He said as if to read my mind. âShe's being interrogated right now, hell she probably has sold you out already,â He chuckled.
No she wouldnât, would she? Flashbacks of the last nine years we spent together ran through my head, the late nights we stayed up in bed whispering about the boys we found cute in our ranking, or what we wanted to grow up to become one day once we got out of here, was it all genuine? Nothing proved your loyalty more than taking out the one person you've spent the majority of your life with. This was the other way the Hounds controlled the group in order to prevent even a hint of rebellion from starting.Â
Shortly after he got a call through his earpiece âAlright, you can go inside now,â he demanded.Â
I looked at him confused for a second to see if he really wasn't going to stop me this time before bolting into the factory. My adrenaline now running rampant through my veins, âdid they torture her to get her to confess to something she clearly didnt do?â Expecting the worst behind the two heavy metal doors, I was greeted with silence. The cold, empty factory was still, âKikio?â I called out but was met with nothing in response. I began to creep into the unknown only to have the heavy metal doors slam shut behind me, âwas this a trap?â I looked around desperately to see any signs of life when with a wild screech Kikio came dropping down from above, her hands superheated and glowing red.
I dodged quickly, jumping back out of the way, barely missing her wild swing as she slammed down on the ground where I once stood, Melting the ground beneath her into a crater of plasma.Â
âKikio what the fuck?!â I screamed. She looked up at me, her eyes devoid of all emotion and cold like the day we first met.Â
âGet up,â she demanded âI want you to give me your all.â
âKikio⌠Wha-.â
âItâs Plasma Panic to you,â she snarled.
âS-STOP PLEASE I DONâT WANT TO FIGHT YOU!â I pleaded.
âALL WE DO IS FIGHT! THIS IS WHAT WE HAVE TRAINED FOR OUR ENTIRE LIVES!â
âWhy are you doing this?! This isnât youâŚâ
âThis is who I've always been, you just never accepted that.â
âTHAT'S A LIE! What about the late night talks about the things we were going to finally get to do together once we were free?!â I could feel hot tears begin to slip down my cheeks,
âYOU PROMISED ME WE WOULD LEAVE HERE TOGETHER!â.Â
âStop being such a child and fight me!â She lunged at me with her glowing palms.
I jumped back trying to avoid her every strike but her movements became more and more reckless with every swing. She was growing frustrated at my unwillingness to fight back. Suddenly her tactics changed and with a feint to the left she was able to land the last blow. The wound across my shoulder burned as I rolled with the force of her attack. Once I was able to get my footing again she charged forward driving her shoulder into my abdomen and knocking me down. I looked up at her still in disbelief watching helplessly as she slowly walked over to me.Â
âYou disappoint me [Y/n], I thought I knew you better than this, I've trained you better than this.â she tsked as she crouched down to meet my gaze. âI SAID GET UP AND FIGHT!â her attacks blended into a common routine, the same one we worked on during training. As I recognized each movement I was able to  quickly dodge her attacks. I recollected myself carefully examining and watching out for my next opening. I had to be extremely careful because I still did not have the fine tuned control over my quirk. Despite countless hours of training I had never been able to recreate my victory in the arena so long ago.Â
âHave you given up completely? Do you want me to kill you here?! Leave your body in the dirt where it belongs?! !â she yelled, getting more and more aggressive with her attacks.Â
Despite my best attempts to block and redirect her attacks, her blows kept connecting, opening more and more wounds. Now that I look back Kikio was only trying to produce more blood so that I could fight back with my quirk at full power, and that's exactly what I did. As the full horror of my situation sunk in, the adrenaline rush triggered a massive quirk reaction within me. With a scream of agony, my blood extended rapidly from my wounds in all directions, creating multiple crystalized blades and draining me of the last of my energy. Â
I could feel myself zoning in and out of consciousness from all the blood loss and trying to focus in the direction of where Kikioâs body had crumpled after being hit. Even in the fading light of the factory the shards that had impaled her body glittered darkly. I gathered what little strength I had left in me to crawl over to her prone form.Â
âN-no.. Kikio, I'm so sorry!â I whimpered. I laid beside her taking her still burning hand, that was barely starting to cool down, into mine not caring that it was burning into my flesh.Â
âThatâs my girl, just like we practiced,â she whispered.
âWhy Kiki, we could have just ran,â I sobbed.
âThey would have killed us both, this was their plan all along. They were only going to let one of us walk out here alive. And it had to be you, you were always the strongest one out of all of us,â She began drifting out of consciousness.Â
âN-no Kikio, please donât leave me here alone.â
â[Y/n] you have to live on for the both of us⌠please⌠get out of here, find a way out⌠fall in love with a strong⌠handsome⌠brave man like we always talked about,â she murmured.Â
âbut..I love you kikio,â I whispered.Â
âI love⌠you too, [Y/n],â I watched as the last of her life drained out and the spark faded from her eyes.Â

Itâs that time of the year, February 14, Valentine's day. The one time out of the year where couples go all out with the flowers, chocolates and sex. That is before they get back to their daily grind of arguing on which places to eat for dinner. Sadly that won't be Keigo and I this year, Keigo is out on duty for the night outside of town, apparently Valentineâs day is not an official holiday according to the commission. Just because they arenât getting laid shouldnât mean the rest don't get to. I wonder how Keigo is holding out tonight while all of Japan is getting railed, the poor bird.
I began prepping the popcorn for tonight's solo movie marathon of Scream, when the doorbell rang right on cue for the opening scene where Casey Becker gets an anonymous phone call. âWell I wonder who that can be?â I paused the movie while slowly tiptoeing my way to the door with a knife in hand, because Iâm not about to make the same mistake as Casey. At the count of three I quickly swung the door open, knife ready when-
âAHH! What the actual fuck, [Y/n]?!â To my surprise, there stood Akio holding a box of red and white roses sprinkled with chocolate covered strawberries that peeked through the bouquet.Â
He was wearing a nice black button up shirt, with a couple of loose buttons to show some man cleavage, a dark blue blazer with matching pants and dark cherry red Dr. Martens. âDamn, Keigo has barely been gone for a day and you are already trying to make a move on his girl? I know you are desperate but like, fuck Akio,â I sarcastically regained my composure.Â
âTsk, donât flatter yourself, Iâm just here to drop these off for Kei,â he said, handing me the box bouquet. âOh, and there's one more thing,â Akio ran back to his car.Â
My jaw dropped at the sight of him pulling out a yellow fluffy giant ball out of the trunk, I have no idea how he even managed to stuff in there âThat's what she saidâ. He struggled to walk over to my door trying to balance the stuffed animal over his head. He plopped it down right before me, spinning it around to reveal its cute little face. It was a giant stuffed animal of a fluffy yellow baby chick holding a knife. âThere, you two were made for each other,â Akio said jokingly, referring to my greeting.Â
âAwe, it's so beautiful,â I said holding back tears while placing my knife over my heart.
âWell, I'll leave you two alone then,â Akio excused himself.
âW-wait, do you⌠wanna come in to watch a movie?â I awkwardly asked, not wanting to spend Valentineâs Day alone.
âGee would I?! I want nothing more than watch you eat your lonely heart out while watching a sappy chick flick, but I canât. I have a date,â he said cheeky.
âDamn, even you are getting some tonight?!â Akio laughed at my response as he headed back to his car feeling on top of his game, for once.
âWell enjoy the night for the both of us!â I yelled right before he drove off leaving me alone with the giant stuffed animal welding a knife and box of chocolate covered strawberries and flowers. This is going to be some night.
I headed back inside the house taking the box of goodies followed by the giant stuffed animal, which I set down next to me in my bed. I sprayed the stuffed toy with Keigoâs cologne and cuddled up next to it, continuing where I left off in my movie. I began stuffing my face with the chocolate covered strawberries, being drawn into the suspense of the movie. âYouâll protect me, right?â I said to the stuffed animal, pressing my body further into it for comfort.Â
As the movie became more intense I drew further and further into the stuffed animal when I was yet again interrupted but this time by the ringing of my phone. I hesitantly checked the caller ID. âPrivate Callerâ it read, âhuh, that's strangeâ. I shook it off and let it go to voicemail before I continued with my movie only to be interrupted yet again by the same private caller. I sent it straight to voicemail right away when it lit up my phone almost immediately, my paranoia was starting to kick in âWhat if they found me?!â. I sent the caller to voicemail a couple more times, growing more persistent with each call, until I finally snapped in a moment of panic.
âWHAT THE FUCK DO YOU WANT!â I finally answered.
âWell among other things⌠to hear that sexy voice of yours, itâs about damn time you answered kid.â I heard a cheeky familiar voice on the other line.
I sat up, holding the phone to my ear not sure how to even respond. âUhm, you there baby bird?â the voice questioned, followed by a long pause that was suddenly interrupted by the screams coming from the tv.
âAHHH!â I screamed being startled by the murder scene which in turn startled the caller on the other line.
âWHAT! WHAT HAPPENED? I'M ON MY WAY!â The caller shouted.
âNO! Donât come here, who are you? I have a knife!â I threatened.
âIS SOMEONE THERE WITH YOU?!â The caller spat back in both concern and anger thinking someone must have broken into the house unaware I was referring to them.
âUhm, Yes? Heâs my boyfriend! heâs big and he plays football and heâll kick your ass!â I shouted remembering the lines that Casey spoke in the opening scene of scream to ward off Ghostface.Â
The voice on the other line began to laugh hysterically getting my reference âOh is that so? I pictured myself more as a baseball player.â
My heart dropped âcould it really be him?â I thought to myself. Keigo was never one to call during a mission for his and my safety, âwhat if itâs a trap?â My paranoid mind was running marathons in my head. I hung up in panic thinking I've said too much. The phone lit up again as I hid behind the plushy. Gathering my courage, I slowly picked up the phone to see a text message sent to me by the private caller âYou mad at me?đĽşâ it read. I ignored it, too anxious to respond. Another text follows âIâm sorry baby bird, I really did try to convince the commission to let me have today off, but I promise Iâll make it up to you when I get back. I hope you liked the chocolate covered strawberries and plushy I sent you in the meantime.â I looked over at the plushy and gasped âYou are working with them?! TRATORE! Who sent you!â I screamed at the plushy, threatening it with a knife.Â
âWho is this?! Hawks would never call or even text me during a mission.â
âGood point, Iâm really proud of you for staying on guard kid!âÂ
âShow me proof that you are who you claim to be!â
âWhat kind of proof are we talking about?â
âI donât know⌠something about him that only I would know.â
âHmm, okay I can think of something.âÂ
I waited anxiously for a moment for his response. My phone lit up once more with another text but this time with a file attached to it. I clicked on it hesitantly as it began to load when suddenly. âHOLY FUCK!â I dropped my phone at the sight of sin that had tainted my eyes unexpectedly. Keigoâs massive cock invaded the screen of my phone, and despite having seen it before, nothing could have prepared me for that. I was always taken aback by his size anyway - and speaking of size⌠Yep, thatâs Keigoâs alright.
âDid that come off too strong?â Another text pinged my phone.
My face flushed red as I literally forgot to even breath. What can I say? A dick like that is just⌠breathtaking. I grabbed my phone to admire it yet again âThatâs my man right there,â I said showing off the photo to the plushy.
âUhm, Iâm sorry. I thought you would have enjoyed that, I should have warned you first. Please donât hate me.â a text interrupted my admiration from the photo.Â
I was so entranced by the dick pic I completely forgot to respond. âCall me. NOW,â I texted back. Immediately my phone began ringing.
âIn my defense it is Valentineâs day and since Iâm not there I just figured this would somewhat make you smile knowing I am thinking of you⌠am I in trouble?â Keigoâs voice rang out as soon as I answered the call.Â
I was now the one laughing hysterically as he stood there on the other line like a nervous wreck. This is the first time he's ever done something like this before, a first for us both actually.
âWell, well, well, happy Valentineâs day to you tooâ I teased.
âHeh⌠so⌠did you⌠uh⌠like⌠it?â he nervously asked.
âMmh did I? Well yes⌠but also no, what exactly can I do with an erection like that if Iâm not there to do anything about it? But also⌠yes I liked it VERY much, thank you.âÂ
âSo⌠do I get⌠one too?â He nervously asked yet again to test his luck.
âKeiiii! Are you suggesting that we-.â
âONLY IF YOU WANT TO! I just thought it would be nice for now since⌠you know, Iâm not there to be with you and⌠I miss you is all. B-but donât feel like you have to though! Hearing your beautiful voice is more than enough for me.âÂ
âAww Kei, I miss you too,â I lowered my voice suggestively.Â
âYeah, I canât wait to come back home to you and our plants,â He said jokingly trying to laugh off his nervousness.Â
âMmh, baby come home soon⌠my wet pussy feels empty without you.âÂ
âUhm, yeah? Well⌠what are you going to do to me when I finally get home?âÂ
âIâm going to punish you first, because how dare you leave me and our child alone,â I pouted childishly.Â
âOur child?âÂ
âYeah, Mr. Peepslasher, the stuffed toy you left me with,â I continued pouting.Â
âYou already named it? And without me?!â He laughed.Â
âYeah, thatâs what you get for not being here to help raise your child. You sure take after your idols Takami⌠or should I say, TO-DO-RO-KI.âÂ
âWoooooe, thatâs a low blow.âÂ
âIâll give you a low blow.â I giggled teasingly.Â
âWell now you are gonna have to, otherwise Iâm going to tell Endeavor what you just said.âÂ
âOh please donât tell on me, mmh Iâll do anything.âÂ
âAnything?â
âAaaaanyythiiiiing,â I affirmed.
Keigoâs voice lowered, shifting to a more serious demeanor âOkay then, how about you start with telling me what you are wearing baby bird.âÂ
âIâm wearing one of your shirts with some cute lace underwear.âÂ
âAre you wearing a bra?âÂ
âNope.âÂ
âGood girl. Now, I want you to go somewhere comfortable and slide your hands under your shirt, start playing with your tits and imagine it was me doing so.âÂ
âOkay, daddy,â I obeyed his command.Â
âThatâs my girl, play with those sexy tits for me and give them a good squeeze and tug. Imagine it was me nibbling at your pointy little nipples, coating them with my saliva because they are all mine. Nobody else gets to see them or touch them while Iâm away you got that?âÂ
âMmh, yes daddy.âÂ
âYes daddy, what?âÂ
âIâm all yours daddy, make me all yours,â I fondled my breast as I begged him over the phone.Â
I can hear Keigoâs breath beginning to grow heavier on the other line with excitement. I began to moan into the phone egging him on. âFuck baby, Iâm getting so wet and hard by just the sound of your voice,â he said, I could hear him tugging at his slippery shaft.Â
âMmmh, I wish I was there to taste it, shove it deep into my throat until I gag and lick it all clean.â
My phone suddenly notified me of another file sent through text. I opened the file to see another photo of Keigoâs feral member in his hand as if to tame it.Â
âMmh just seeing that massive, wet cock sent shivers up my spine, making my tits so pointy. Want to see?â
Keigo suddenly paused at my offer, âUhm, are you sure? You really donât have to, Iâm okay with being the only one sending photos if youâre uncomfortable to send some in return. Please donât feel like you have to.âÂ
âNo, I want to. I want you to be reminded of what you are coming back home to.âÂ
I can hear Keigo let out a nervous laugh under his breath to my persistence. I lifted the shirt I was wearing to expose my breast for the camera and held the end of the shirt up with my teeth, squeezing my breast together with my arms while holding the camera up and âsnapâ. I took the photo, excluding my face of course, and pressed send.Â
I heard a loud thud on the other line followed by scrambling âKeigo? Did you die?â I questioned.Â
âHeh, sorry I dropped my phone,â he giggled, I could still hear a hint of nervousness in his voice âD-Damn babe, and to think I left that behind waiting for me at home.âÂ
âPlease come home soon baby, I miss you.âÂ
âWhat do you miss exactly?â He purred, snapping back to his cheeky self.Â
âI miss the warmth of your brawny hands cupping my tender breast as you breathe into my neck and bite into my ear lobe.âÂ
âWhat else baby, say more.â I could hear him palming at his shaft again.Â
âI miss the feeling of your bulge being pressed up against my ass as you choke me from behind.â I moaned.
âI wanna see that sweet ass of yours so I can picture myself hitting it from behind.âÂ
âYeah? You want more photos? You got to beg for them.â
âP-please baby bird, send more photos, I want to see more of you,â his breath grew heavier and so did the sound of him tugging at his shaft.Â
âUhh yes, you wanna see all of me?âÂ
âYeah baby, be a good girl and show daddy what heâs missing.âÂ
I quickly grabbed the selfie stick I had thrown in the closet that I never used, thankfully it came in handy for once since I was never big on taking pictures of myself. Before I took the photo I looked back into the closet to see a school girl skirt Iâve never got to wear that I bought out of a whim. I slipped it on and got on all fours on the bed, angling the camera over my head with the help of the selfie stick to face my back. The skirt was short enough to let my ass peek through, âlike this daddy?â I asked sending the photo.Â
âMmh yeah, thatâs my good girl, my VERY good girl.âÂ
âDo I get a prize now?âÂ
âHere, enjoy.â Keigo sends a video of him jacking himself off, his cock slippery wet allowing his hands to slide up and down so effortlessly. âUhh, touch yourself with me, I wanna hear you moan my name as you play with that wet little pussy.âÂ
Staying on all fours, I slid my hand into my underwear at his demand. My fingers slipped between my folds coating themselves in my own precum making it easy to flick at my clit. âMmmhf Kei,â I bit my bottom lip.Â
âYeah like that my little songbird, sing me my favorite song.â He encouraged me.
I continued to moan as I played with myself while watching Keigoâs video on repeat, hearing his live moans on the other line.Â
âUgh, Iâm so wet!âÂ
âOh yeah? Show daddy, I wanna see that pussy get wet for me.âÂ
I faced the camera now to my rear end, slipping off my soaking panties to reveal my steaming flesh that yearned for him. I hit record as I let my fingers do the work exposing my clit that was now drenched in its own nectar from my throbbing hole that clenched with every flick. I felt so exposed, so vulnerable and yet so filthy. Only Keigo could ever get me like this.Â
âUGH!! Fuck I want to be inside you so fucking bad baby bird!â Keigo praised at the sight, I can hear his thrust getting sloppy as he was near ready to hit his limit.Â
âYes daddy, my pussy misses you so fucking much! Please come home soon so I can sit on that fat cock and take it for a ride!âÂ
âIâm going to shove it all inside you so deep, my come will be lost in there for days. Iâm not holding back baby when I get home, so you better be fucking ready to really scream my name.âÂ
âFuck me Kei! Fuck me till I break!âÂ
âUgh, yeah just like that baby, Ugh, UGh, UGH!! [Y/n], Iâm about to burst!â His moans became hoarse as he called out my name making me ready to climax along with him.Â
I shoved my fingers as deep inside me as I could, trying to picture it being him, even though they were nowhere near as good as his filling. The excitement of him getting caught added to the blasphemous aura that was now engulfing us both along with the sound of gushing slaps on both ends of the line, at this point no fucks were given making it dangerous for us to even be together. âFUCK!â He grunted as he finally relieved himself, having me follow right after him.
âUgh! Yes! Thank you daddy, thank you!â I praised.Â
âMmh thatâs my girl, finish your meal and lick those fingers clean for me.â He said catching his breath.Â
âMmmh,â I moaned at the taste of my shame.
I quickly cleaned myself up and slipped into one of Keigoâs chick onesies to match Mr. Peepslasher. I cuddled up next to Peep to make up for the empty space of Keigoâs absence. âHey Kei? Can I please see your face?â I asked shyly. âIâm just so used to seeing you and admiring your beautiful face after sex is all.â Suddenly the phone hung up at my request.Â
I laid there confused for a second thinking maybe he got caught. My phone excused the thought as a FaceTime call came through, I quickly answered. Keigoâs face popped up on my screen. His hair was messy and his face was flushed red as he laid in bed with a sheepish grin. âHey baby bird,â he said in a hushed tone.Â
My heart fluttered at the sight of his childish face. âHey there bird boy,â I smiled back, âyou have some space there for me to join too?âÂ
âCome right in, I kept your spot nice and warm,â he said, laying the phone beside his head.Â
I did the same using Mr.Peep to prop my phone next to me. âWell, that was exciting,â I teased.Â
âUhh, yeah it was, wasn't it?â Keigoâs vermilion feathers obstructed my view of his flustered face as he shied away.Â
âHeyyy, donât hide from me,â I giggled.Â
He peeked his beautiful amber eyes from behind his feathers like a child playing hide and seek.Â
âI miss you,â I whispered, being enraptured by his enthralling gaze.Â
âI miss you too, love dove,â he whispers back.Â
We laid there in silence in awe of just the sight of one another, as if we were having a telepathic conversation in our minds, we just knew what each other was thinking. I knew we couldnât speak much due to the current situation, asking questions about the mission was off topic for safety reasons. Just having him there with me over the phone in our silence was more than enough.Â
âGet some rest love, Iâll wait for you to fall asleep,â he offered in a whisper.Â
âIâm afraid if I do, I wonât ever see you again.â I could see the pain in his eyes formed to my words.Â
âDonât say that, Iâm almost done here. Iâll be back home before you know it. I mean they donât call me âtoo fastâ for no reason,â he winked.Â
âPromise?âÂ
âPromise, now get some sleep.â He smiled.
We continued staring at each other for a little while longer. I donât know when will be the next time I get to see him, I just wanted to remember his face, his narrow amber eyes that pierced my soul, his bushy brows to his arum hair, even the little stubble on his chin and letâs not forget that smile of his. I found my eyes growing heavy as they slowly began to flutter closed. I tried to fight it but my exhaustion was getting the better of me. The last thing I remember is seeing his lips mouthing the words âI love youâ before giving entirely to my sleep.Â
My eyes shot open, the morning haze now flooded my room, âmorning already?â I thought, It felt like I had been asleep for only a second. I quickly checked my phone to see if Keigo was still there on the other line, nope. Just as I thought. My heart sank âI didnât even get to tell him I loved him backâ.Â
I slumped back down into my bed, snuggling up next to Mr. Peep. âDid last night really happen or was that all just a wet dream?â I quickly grabbed my phone to check the conversation of that night to see all the nudes were still there. I bit my lip from forming a smile wanting to desperately text him back but knew I shouldnât. Itâs okay, these pictures will do for now. I went ahead and started sliding my hands back into my underwear for another round, itâs what Keigo would have wanted after all.Â
!!!Happy Valentineâs Day you freaky flamingoes!!!

I continued seeing my therapist who started me on cognitive behavioral therapy, also known as CBT. She also requested that I start journaling my nightmares and thoughts as a way to self reflect and see my own progress, she assured me this was for my eyes only and I would only share whatever I felt comfortable disclosing with her. I came to terms that I couldnât rely on Hawks for everything and even though we are a team here, some battles we had to face alone.Â
January 28, I began writing my journal entry, last night I had another nightmare, the same smoke, the same fire, the same fear. This was starting to get old. The difference was, I didn't have Hawks beside me to roll over to, instead of his warmth beside me I felt an empty cold bed. It was hard having to wake up without him but I'm getting used to it. What was meant to be a week-long mission was starting to drag out into two weeks, and still no word from him. I know he can't call me while on undercover duty for the sake of my safety and his. Thankfully I have some of his feathers laying sound in the house to keep me company, from time to time one will come up to me and brush up under my chin to signify that he is okay and alive. I like to whisper the words âI love youâ to them here and there in hopes he gets my message, but being undercover he has to stay alert and concentrated at all times so I try not to be a distraction. This is how we've come to cope with this situation. There has only been two other instances where he had to be gone for this long during our entire relationship in the span of over a year, but this one is by far starting to be the longest and at the worst timing with still having to cope with the loss of our child. I miss him, my nerves are getting the better of me knowing that if⌠no when he comes back, there are matters we still have yet to discuss. See, Hawks doesnât know about my quirk. My quirk is the reason why our paths have crossed in the first place and why I am involved with the âBloodhoundsâ who are also in charge of the âBDBMâ... The âBlood Diamond Black Marketâ.
I was only five years old when our village was attacked. The memories are vague but the feelings of fear and confusion were still there lingering deep inside my chest cavity. Just like my nightmares the smoke fills my lungs causing me to lose air and meet my demise on the ground like a flake of fallen ash. Several men in red and royal blue suits emerge from the smoke all wearing gas masks, one of them picks me off the ground and carries me away to a truck full of other unconscious children, the next thing I saw was the truck's back door shutting me in the darkness with all the others.Â
I was awakened by the sobs of the nearby children all huddled up into one corner. I found myself in a dim lit, dirty, old room that had several bunk beds and a single drainage system with flowing water that ran along the floor, similar to a gutter, this was used as both our water supply and bathroom. We were still covered in ash, I didn't recognize any of these kids. Panic began to stir up in me not knowing where I was as I began to cry along with the rest of the children. An older kid who was patrolling the halls came up to our door yelling at us in a foreign language I couldn't understand. We all started panicking, sheltering ourselves in the corner furthest away from the door behind one of the dirty bunk beds.Â
I shut my eyes closed as hard as I could hoping to just disappear or that this was just a nightmare I would soon wake up from any moment now, when I suddenly felt a hand grab at my shoulder. I screamed, flailing my arms around in self defense when the same hand was placed over my mouth to shush me. My eyes flew open to see a pair of brown gentle ones staring back at me. A boy with olive skin and thick black hair began to softly speak to me, âShh, itâs okay. Do you speak English?â he questioned. I slowly nodded my head, âAwesome! Me too! My name is Raj, I'm 12 years old and I live in India⌠well I did until I was brought here,â he looked down in defeat. âWe were all brought here from all over the world, you are new here but donât worry, they say if we behave and do as we are told they will send us all back home!â He was so naive. I started to cry at the thought of home, âHey now. Donât cry, where are you from?â he questioned trying to distract me from our current circumstances.Â
âUhm, Iâm from [your hometown],â I said softly.
âOh really! I've never been there, is it nice?â He enthusiastically asked.
We began talking as I slowly grew more and more comfortable with him, children gathered around him as well to talk about where they all came from, I was just glad in that moment to have made a friend. We were interrupted suddenly by loud banging as the door flew open and the same boy from earlier joined by several others rallied around us with guns telling us to get up and form a line, at first we panicked not knowing what they were shouting at us, but thankfully Raj kept calm and offered the older teens to translate for them. We all followed Rajâs orders and headed out the room in a uniform fashion.Â
We walked barefooted down the dark hallway that was lined up with rooms similar to ours with our arms crossed and tucked, several other kids not much older than Raj walked alongside of us carrying guns to make sure we didnât step out of line, now that I think about it, they too were only victims doing what they were demanded to do and were probably just as scared as the rest of us. We arrived at an open room at the end of the hall that was covered in cold white tile, they aggressively ordered a few words at Raj who in turn translated to us âtake off your clothes, we are going to take a shower.âÂ
We abandoned our clothes at the foot of the door frame, one by one, into a pile while we lined up in the room. One of the teenagers began hosing us down with cold water to wash off the ash and rubble of what was left of our homes. After standing there trembling in fear and cold we were given one towel to share amongst us, if I could recall there were about ten of us in my group. After we finished drying ourselves down with the damp towel, we were individually given clothes made of sackcloth material that fit loosely on our little body frames. This was only the beginning of my brutal childhood.Â
For the next couple of months it is all about survival of the fittest. I, along with many other children, had to go through rigorous tests to determine who was strong enough to serve under the âBloodhoundsâ, a position none of us were evening asking for to begin with. We were promised that whoever surpassed their training would be able to go back home to their families as a âheroâ, it was a sick way to manipulate us into submission. Many children died from the harsh training or became ill due to malnutrition or the poor housing conditions we were kept under. They often pitted us against each other under the guise of âtrainingâ, often encouraging us to maim and kill our peers . Those who did pass were promoted to a higher ranking, given better uniforms, housing and food. It was every man, or should I say child, for themselves.Â
I was thrown into my first fight at the tender age of seven against another girl of similar age , I still remember her face so vividly. Sad, empty eyes that mirrored my own, neither one of us wanted to be here. We were thrown into a small gated underground arena that had nothing but barbed wire fencing to stop us from climbing over and escaping. Kids were yelling at us from behind the gate, egging us on to fight. There was still fresh blood all over the floor and fencing from the previous fights before ours, these kids were thirsty to see more bloodshed.
Another foreign voice rang through the speaker above our heads which I assumed was a countdown. All of a sudden piles of sand started to pour into the arena from above us. I shielded my eyes from the stinging particles before my footing was ripped away by an unseen force. . he girl standing before me was now surrounded by the twirling sand whipping around the arena like a tornado, her hair flying menacingly, an air quirk maybe? I was at a disadvantage here. She fired off a couple of dirt bullets towards me that I was forced to dodge. Thanks to my grueling training, I was forced to be good on my feet. With the sand still whipping around the arena it was very difficult to see my opponent, and suddenly a wave of sand rushed towards me so quickly I wasn't able to completely dodge the blow. . The particles of sand were shot so hard that they cut straight through the skin of my arm, leaving multiple wounds that drew blood. At this point the girl changed tactics, choosing to come in for the kill as she shot straight for me through the air. flinching in response to the air current now driving into me, I swung my bloody arm in a panicked attempt to block. The motion flung droplets of my blood in her direction, my quirk reacting to form crystallized daggers which sunk into her body. Everything just stopped as she fell in front of me and a silence settled over the arena.. I cautiously approached the lifeless body that was facing down, not sure if this was some sort of trick to draw me closer for another attack.
As I turned the body over the first thing I noticed was her face forever frozen in fear. One of my crystallized blood daggers had pierced her left eye sinking deep enough to reach her brain and kill her instantly.. The sight sent kids howling like dogs at my victory as the same voice rang through the speaker, I didnât know what had just happened leaving me terrified of even my own body.Â
Growing up I was made aware of my quirk when I would get injured while playing, every time I drew blood it would quickly crystallize forming a glimmering scab, allowing my wounds to heal quicker, but never had I thought that it could do what it just did to that poor girl that day. The guilt still eats away at my heart everyday.
I didnât realize in that moment, in my act of self defense, I sealed my fate to those rabid Bloodhounds.
âOkay, so letâs get one thing out in the open, Iâve never done something like this before. Iâm not used to people asking me about my personal life let alone how I feel, so excuse me if I come off too blunt. Iâve come to know that when someone asks how youâve been they donât actually care, itâs just one of those things someone says as a way to fill the silence. Having a conversation with someone is a form of art where you only speak twenty five percent of the truth and the other seventy five is justâŚfiller. Oh god Iâm talking too much arenât I?â I looked at the woman sitting across from me in the room, jotting down notes on her clipboard. She gave me a small smile once she was done writing and scooted her glasses up from the bridge of her nose with her index finger to take a better look at me.
âWhy, isnât that what you are here for?â she politely asked. âYou know, you donât need to keep up with appearances in this room miss [Y/l/n], though I have been informed that you are currently in a domestic partnership with the number two pro hero Hawks, I can assure you your secret is safe with me. I have sworn to secrecy, signing a contract with the Hawks agency to protect yours and his privacy, I am on your side.â She reassured me with yet another smile. âAnything you say stays between you and me. So, want to start with telling me a bit about your childhood upbringing?âÂ
My heart cringed at her request âUhm, there's not much to say there. My hometown was attacked by terrorists or what you call âvillainsâ, having killed all my family members and from there I was sent into a foster home.â
âOh, I'm sorry to hear that.â
âItâs okay, It was so long ago. I was only five when it happened so I donât remember much about my biological family.â I began twiddling my thumbs to ease my nerves hoping she couldn't see past my facade. Truth is, this was only partially true. Maybe this was a bad idea.Â
I donât remember much about where I grew up exactly but I do remember the attack that still haunts my nightmares. Buildings were on fire as the smoke filled the air, I could see figures in the murky grey. Children leaning over their loved ones that laid lifelessly on the ground, their cries echoed my thoughts to this day. I remember looking for someone but Iâm not sure who, meanwhile someone was looking for me in return. Several men in suits approached me, at first I thought they were here to help, but I was so wrong.Â
âWell thenâ her voice interrupted my Reminiscing, âyou tell me. What is it that you want to talk about? What is it that brought you into my office?â She said changing the subject, picking up on my discomfort on the topic.
âTo tell you the truth, I donât know why Iâm here. K- Hawks thought it would be good for the both of us.â It felt weird calling him by his alias.
âAnd do you agree?â She began writing some more on her clipboard.Â
âWas I supposed to?â She stopped writing to my response. âI donât really see the point in all this, I mean he's paying a complete stranger to sympathize with us and somehow have them figure out all the answers to our problems we canât for ourselves? Is that like a quirk of yours or something?âÂ
âI see, youâre deflecting miss [Y/l/n]. I have yet to gain your trust and that is perfectly reasonable, I hope with your time here you will be able to feel comfortable opening up to me more that way I may help you to the best of my capabilities.â
âSo that you donât lose your valuable pro hero patient? More trust, more money I suppose.â I got defensive, how can she possibly help me. âI bet he paid you extra to act like you give a shit, god you people are all the fucking same. You donât see me as my own individual but as the property of your golden boy hero. Or what? did he save you or a relative of yours so now you are doing him this favor?â She continued to stay quiet and smile at my ranting. âThe fact that we live in a world where you have to pay someone to listen to your problems and give a shit about them is beyond me.â I laughed.Â
âI love my job, I love helping people to the best of my capabilities, and yes you are absolutely right. It is, how you say, âshittyâ that we all need to make some sort of economic contribution to society. So why not do it through something you love like, helping people?â She continues to smile politely. Â
âRight, so long as they can afford your price.â The room fell silent for a moment.
âI feel like this has to do with something much more deeper. Were you neglected growing up? Do you feel that you are only receiving respect because of your association with Hawks?â She annoyingly continued to ask.
Flashbacks of my past struck me with every question she threw my way. Me being locked up in a small room along with other terrified children, being poked with needles like a test subject, being used for my quirk as if thatâs all I was, a tool.Â
I sighed, âPeople will only respect you, when you have something to offer them. Hawks was the first to acknowledge me for me, he took me in and helped me even when I had nothing left to offer him.âÂ
âDo you want to tell me more about your relationship with Hawks? How did you both meet?â My face involuntarily flushed red as I remembered when I first laid eyes on him âhey there, everything is going to be okay, Iâm here now,â weâre his first words spoken to me.Â
âUhm, I⌠Am not sure what heâs okay with me discussing at this timeâ. I tried to evade the question.Â
âWell if it makes you more comfortable, why donât we call him in to join us?â
âYou mean, thatâs allowed?âÂ
âWell he seems to be the only one you trust at the moment, so why donât we call him in for the first couple of sessions until you feel comfortable coming in alone.âÂ
She stood up from her seat and walked over to the door calling Hawks over who was in the waiting room. He walks in looking quite confused.
âWas my girl misbehaving?â He joked like a parent being called into the principal's office.
I laughed at his response which helped lighten up the mood, his presence always made the atmosphere in the room brighter. He was the light to my dark and cold world. I scooted close to him as he sat down next to me on the couch , wrapping his wing over me for comfort. I could tell our childish mannerism bothered the psychologist a little.Â
âSo miss [Y/l/n] was going to tell me about how the two of you met.â She sat back down, clipboard in hand.
âWell then baby? Should I or do you want to take it from here?â He smiled at me, his face turning red and he nervously scratched his temple.Â
âUhm well, I think you tell it better.â I smiled, begging with my eyes. I wasnât sure what Hawks wanted to keep exclusively between the two of us, plus he handles situations under pressure well.Â
âAh well.â He chipperly snapped to it âI was on duty when I saw little miss [Y/l/n] here getting herself into some trouble.â I looked at him confused. âYeah, you should have seen her, telling some thugs off for trying to steal from an older woman. She was always so fearless like that, never taking crap from anybody.â He looked over at me in admiration âI knew right then and there that I just had to get to know her more. Plus she had no idea who I was because she was new to Japan so imagine my shock.â He laughed. He was so good at lying it was almost scary.Â
Truth is, Keigo rescued me during a raid. I was a victim of human quirk traffickers and was being smuggled into Japan from South America. These traffickers called themselves the âBloodhoundsâ. They attacked small villages from all over the world, killing parents of children they deemed valuable to their cause. I was the few who found favor in their eyes due to my quirk, itâs the one thing that kept me alive, until I met Keigo.Â
âHow lovely, you two seem to be very much in love. So tell me, what brought you two here then?â Keigo and I both looked at each other mentally preparing for the topic at hand.
Keigo took a deep breath ready to respond when I quickly interrupted him âItâs okay, Iâll take it from here,â I took his hand in reassurance. âWe recently lost our unborn child, it was going to be our first too.â I could feel Keigoâs eyes on me as I fixed my eyes on the ground, refusing to look at him knowing seeing the pain in his eyes would cause me to start crying. I hated crying in front of people, Kei was the only one who ever saw me in such a vulnerable state and even then, there was only so much I allowed him to see.Â
âIâm sorry to hear about your loss.âÂ
âOf course you are, can we please cut the text book dialogue and get down to business.â I said annoyingly.Â
âHey, itâs okay,â His words take me back to the day he saved me. He raised the back of my hand up to his lips, giving it a gentle kiss.
The touch of his soft lips eased the tension in my body, he always knew how to calm me down. âIâm sorry, itâs just-.âÂ
âItâs okay, thereâs no need to apologize,â the psychologist dismissed. âIf you donât mind me asking however, how is your personal life? Have you been eating? Sleeping?âÂ
âFor the first week it was hard to sleep or eat, thankfully K-Hawks was there to make sure I ate and helped me sleep.âÂ
âSeems like you have taken it upon yourself to care for her,â She said looking over at Kei.
âJust my hero instincts kicking in,â He shrugged off. âBesides, itâs the least that I can do.â
âHow about your intimate life?â
âWe decided to abstain from any sexual activity,â Kei answered.
âAre you okay with this miss [Y/l/n]?â She looked over at me.
âWell⌠I for one, grew up without physical affection, so being deprived of it in my own relationship doesnât sit well with me⌠but I guess itâs for the best,â I stated.
âOh? I guess I just assumed that was something we both agreed on,â He looked puzzled.
âWell yes I agree, but Iâm not exactly okay with it.âÂ
âSo how do we fix that?â He gave me that credulous look.
âLetâs start by asking you that same exact question Hawks, how do you feel knowing now how your partner feels about you refraining from any sexual activity towards her, given her upbringing?â
âI donât want her lacking in any aspect when it comes to love. Thatâs the last thing I want.âÂ
âSeems like you two have a lot to talk about, how about you both spend some time together alone and discuss ways to make compromises for your relationship, that way can visualize what we want to work up to during this process of healing,â she jotted down several more notes before dismissing us with one last âIs there anything else you two want to discuss before we meet again for your next visit?âÂ
âNo, we will take it from here. Thank you so much for your time, till then.â Keigo shook the womanâs hand before excusing us both out of the room. I followed right behind him still tucked under his wing clinging onto his hand.Â
âSo⌠what did you think about todayâs session?â He questioned as we headed into the parking lot waiting for Akio to pick us up to avoid being seen by the Paparazzi.Â
âI think she could ease up on the scented candles, this isnât some spa,â I joked.Â
âI donât know, maybe she has a side candle business going,â Keigo chuckled.Â
âIf you could have one candle named after you, what would it smell like?â I asked him, pausing for a moment as we both looked at each other âKFC,â we both laughed.Â
It got quiet again before I broke the silence once more âKei? Do you remember how we first met?â His brows painfully furrowed to my question.Â
âI try not to think about it, it pains me to know what harsh and ugly conditions you were brought under, I just only wish I could have saved you sooner,â his wing scooted me closer to him, burying his face into my shoulder.Â
âItâs okay, Youâre here now, thatâs all that matters.â I said soothingly. âThereâs something more I need to tell you⌠I-,â before I could say anything more his phone rang. He let out a frustrated sigh.
âyou should probably get that.â
âIf you donât mind. Iâm sorry,â he said, wiping out his phone to answer.Â
I can see the look on his face grow more and more frustrated as he spoke to the person on the other line. âOkay, Iâll be there,â he hung up, âit was the commission, they will be needing me to go on a week long mission out of town. Iâm so sorry [Y/n], Iâll be leaving tonight. We will be talking about this soon I promise, Iâll make it up to you,â he held my hands tightly while kissing my forehead.Â
âDonât apologize, I know this is all out of your control.âÂ
He goes in for another kiss but this time for my lips. We took each other in for as long as we could, savoring one other until we were interrupted yet again by yours truly, the number one cock blocker, Akio. âGet in, losers we're going home,â he honked obnoxiously.
âYou go on without me, I have to go home and prepare to leave for tonight,â Kei plants another kiss on my lips dragging it out until Akio begins honking again in frustration. Keigo teasingly gives him the bird still locking his lips with mine in defiance.Â
We both said our goodbyes and headed our separate ways âtill then little birdâ.

Itâs been about a week since Keigo and I came to terms with the loss of our child. We decided it was best that we both go to therapy in order for us to heal properly and move on the best we could. The loss of our baby wasnât something we could ever just forget, especially knowing how it almost cost us each other. But instead we decided to make this an opportunity to grow closer, and in order to do so, there were fires in my past I needed to put out. We will both be going to therapy separately for a while until we are ready to go to couples counseling together. I am not sure what our future will look like from here but one thing is certain, that we were both willing to fight for it together, we are a team after all.
I stepped into the kitchen one morning to the smell of Keigoâs wonderful cooking, heâs been taking extra care of me lately and one thing I started working on since the incident was allowing him to do so. I slowly tried to tiptoe my way up behind him as best as I could without making a sound as he continued cooking, when I quickly wrapped my arms around his waist playfully biting the base of his right wing.Â
His wings fluttered as he let out a dramatic moan. âAhh yes, you got me,â he said sarcastically. He obviously sensed me with his feathers since sneaking up on the bird was near impossible.Â
âYouâre mine now,â I said childishly.
âMmh, and what do you plan to do with me now?â He said side eyeing me.
âEat you!â I began nibbling his back as he let out a laugh.
âWait, babe, you know I'm ticklish!â he pleaded.
âBut I'm hungry,â I childishly whined.
âWell lucky you, breakfast is almost ready.â
âWhat can I do to help?â
âYou can sit yourself at the table and look pretty for me while I finish up here.â
âBut I wanna help,â I pouted.
âNo, today I will be treating you,â he declared as he shot three feathers my way, two pulling me by both hands and another pushing me from my back towards the table. One feather slid the chair out for me and the other pulled me over to sit down onto it and scooted me into the table.
Several feathers were now dancing around before me as they began to set the table, I felt like Belle from Beauty and the Beast seeing his vermilion feathers swiftly lay out napkins and gold utensils, traditional japanese black marble plates with gold trimming, and a matching vase garnished with white babyâs breath flowers before my eyes like a puzzle while I sang the little tune of Be Our Guest in my head. One feather floats up to my face and tickles my nose as they all excuse themselves once they are finished setting everything up and continue on into the kitchen to Keigoâs aid.
A moment later Keigo joined me carrying both our plates, setting them on the table and seated himself next to me. His feathers served us by filling up our glass with homemade strawberry lemonade to go with the Eggs Benedict Keigo made for us. Another feather set a box of chocolate covered hazelnut croissants like the ones he got for me last time that I never got to try, which was a waste because they were so delicious. We both dug into our plate, him being cute trying to feed me but pulling the spoon full further and further away from me not realizing I was leaning in closer to his face, he planted a kiss on my lips childishly and rewarded me with the spoon full of the creamy egg he had baited me with.
We finished up our meal shortly. The feathers came to pick up after us, sending the dishes into the sink to be washed. Keigoâs demeanor was different today, he couldn't keep his eyes off me with that spellbinding look on his face. âWhat?â I giggled trying to keep my composure.
âYou know I love you, right?â he asked, softly grabbing a hold of my hand planting a kiss on it. Ever since the day we reunited after the loss of our child, Keigo has not once failed to remind me of how much he loves me. From the first thing in the morning, to random hours of the day, to even just me brushing my teeth before we head to bed, he would always surprise me with an âI love youâ.
âI love you too, Kei,â I responded with a whisper enamoured by his entrancing gaze. Our lips locked again as I thought, âWhat did I do to deserve a love like this?âÂ
He slowly pulls away, a hazy flushed look imprinted on his face âGo and get dressed, wear something white,â my heart skipped a beat to his suggestion. âN-no, donât go getting any ideas,â he laughed. âUnless, you would much rather do that instead,â he whispers, hiding his face into my neck.
âHm, quite tempting, but you will have to ask better than that,â I sat up and headed to the bedroom, âI am going to take a quick shower, would you care to join m-,â I was interrupted by my own memory âoh wait, sorry I forgot,â I stopped in my tracks reminded of the agreement Keigo and I made.Â
Keigo suggested that it was best we abstained from sex for a bit, while we both went to therapy and got the proper help we needed until we were in a more healthy state emeotionally. It was much harder said than done but it was necessary for the both of us. âItâs okay love dove, you go and enjoy yourself. Iâll finish cleaning up here,â the look on Keigoâs face said otherwise. This was especially hard on Keigo, In any other case he would jump at the opportunity. I was really impressed by his determination, sometimes he had to be the strong one for the both of us.
Without another word I headed into the shower feeling guilty. Taking a shower was such a process for me, looking at my naked body and seeing it as my own again was strange for me, to not see a baby bump made me feel as though a part of me was missing. I stared at myself in the mirror examining the scar left on my pelvic area for a while, coming to terms with it all over again. Because of my hidden quirk my wounds seal up quickly, another secret of mine I have yet to tell Keigo before anyone else finds out. I stepped into the shower as I let the warm running water comfort me, washing away my tears. It became easier with each time but the feeling, and memories will never fully go away.Â
After my therapeutic shower I slipped into a white flowy summer dress. âI wonder why he would ask me to wear white in particular?â I dried my hair and threw some light makeup on, a first in a while, and met with Keigo in the living room who was already ready. He looked dreamy in a white silk button up shirt with some babyâs breath flowers tucked into the pocket of his shirt, white casual pants, and black leather shoes. He walked over to me to place a babyâs breath flower in my hair to match his, this was becoming a consistent theme here. He took a look at me, holding my face in the palm of his hands with tears forming in his amber eyes âYou look so beautiful,â he whispered as he proceeded to plant a kiss on my lips.Â
I wiped his tears away as he held my head against his, the tips of his wings softly traced the curves of my body. We breathed in each other's breath mentally preparing to step out into the world for the first time in a week. We both knew the media would be trying to pry answers from him which is why we decided to stay out of the public view. I knew so long we were at each otherâs side everything will be okay. Out the door we went.
Keigo led me outside by the hand, it was a bright sunny day. It felt nice to feel the sun on my skin and the breeze in my hair making it the perfect day to fall in love all over again. Keigo pulled me in close, he expanded his powerful, vibrant wings catching the breeze beneath them only to send the air right under us with a strong flap; we were now airborne.Â
It was peaceful up here, away from the world that I didnât want to come back down to. Up here it was just Keigo and I for miles; home was wherever he was, and I would follow this man to the ends of the earth. I held tightly to him, digging my face into his neck, smelling his comforting scent that made the moment that much more idyllic. Deep down I was hoping he would fly us far away from here, away from our troubles, away from his duties, and most of all away from my past. Was it so wrong of me to think such thoughts? to want this man all to myself? As if to answer my internalizing questions, we slowly began to descend back into reality.Â
Keigo gently placed me on solid ground, my feet sunk into the grass below me âYou can let go now,â he giggled whispering in my ear, but I didnât want to. I lifted my head from his shoulder to look around me, we were standing in the middle of a field of red roses where a crowd of people all wearing white gathered. I hadnât realized at first but these people werenât just strangers but pro heroâs both retired and those who are still active.
âWhatâs all this?â I asked Keigo.Â
âHawks agencies along with other pro hero agencies have come together to host a memorial event for those fallen heroes and loved ones of heroes who have now passed. This is a great opportunity for everyone who has suffered a loss to be United in hope, a way to move forward.âÂ
Keigo wiped the tear that began to form in the corner of my eye with his thumb and quickly planted a kiss on my forehead before anybody could see. We were still keeping our relationship private having only close friends know about us and the loss of our child.Â
I noticed Akio in the crowd of people along with other familiar faces such Tokoyami and all of his classmates, all of Sir Nighteyeâs agency, even Endeavor showed up wearing white. I wonder if he too has suffered the loss of a loved one. There were many more heroes of which I wasnât quite familiar with being that I've only lived in Japan a little over a year now and donât stay updated with such stuff. I was, however, pleased to see everyone here even if it wasnât for my cause, the world felt a little less lonely in that moment.
Akio joined Keigo and I, smothering us both in one big hug getting a whiff of the alcohol on him. âI love you guys so much, Iâm so sorry I couldnât do more for you,â he wept.Â
âAkio are you drunk?â Keigo questioned.
âNo, well sorta. What can I say itâs my day off and I donât deal well with this sort of thing,â he said in his defense.Â
I laughed in disbelief, the little shit actually has emotions. I always tried to hide my pain with humor finding it in the most inappropriate of times. âThere, there Akio. Behave yourself and Iâll treat you to some Yakitori after this,â Keigo negotiated while patting Akio on the back. Akio quickly straightened up, wiping the tears off his face and smoothed out his shirt. He was easily baited when it came to either food or alcohol , another reason why the two of them got along so well, Akio drank as a way to cope with all the stress that came with having to work under Hawks.Â
Keigoâs alias name was being called to the crowd of people to pay their respects âGo on Iâll be fine here looking out for Aki,â I suggested.
âI wonât take long, I promise,â he excused himself.Â
Keigo left Akio and I alone âmust be tiring not being able to have him all to yourself huh,â Akio broke the silence as we both watched Keigo off, interacting with everyone so effortlessly as he became the life of a gloomy day. He just has a way with people where some may find annoying, others find charming.Â
âYeah, we are just two completely different people I guess,â I said in defeat.
âWell, see it as an opportunity to find every moment you have alone together more precious. Your time is the most valuable thing you can give to someone after all, itâs the one thing you never gain but continue to lose in life, spend it well,â Akioâs tone suddenly shifted to a sagacious one, this was his way of comforting.Â
âYou know, you can be really wise when you want to be for a shit head,â I mocked.Â
âOh sorry, did I say something?â He crossed his eyes jokingly.Â
We laughed for the first time in a while. âThanks Aki.âÂ
âFor what exactly?âÂ
âFor being there for Keigo when I couldnât be,â my words fell silent at my internalizing guilt.Â
âDonât be, I knew what I signed up for when I chose to be his secretary/personal assistant/life coach/friend, what can I say? You two would be useless without me,â he continued to tease, stroking his own ego as he fixed his collar. âNo but for real though, itâs good to have you back. Just please, for my sake, donât disappear on him again. The guy is such a mess without you, I couldnât bear to have to put up with his emotional meltdown again like with his last breakup- I mean,â Akio quickly stumbled on his words. âSorry, wrong time to bring this up,â he apologized.Â
So my suspicions were right, he has been hurt by someone heâs trusted before. A growing ache began to form in the center of my chest cavity at just the thought âOh Keigo, how I know your pain all too well.âÂ
âIt doesnât matter anymore, you live and you learn. What matters now is that you two have each other, and a sexy guidance counselor with an owl mutation,â Akio taking notice of the shift in my energy in an attempt to cheer me up.Â
âAkio how the hell are you still single?âÂ
âI have no clue, I ask myself all the time.âÂ
âAwe, well Iâll let you borrow Kei whenever you want, so long as I get to watch,â I jokingly offered my boyfriend as sacrifice.
Akio suddenly burst out laughing hysterically as everyone turned to look at us in confusion causing me to start laughing along with him at the awkward glares. If only they knew.Â
The sun began to set as everyone grabbed their white paper lanterns and headed down the dirt narrow path, guiding them along the edge of the cliff onto the shore line of the beach below. I began to follow the crowd when Akio suddenly stopped me, grabbing a hold of my shoulder. I looked over to him in confusion when he signaled with his head pointing to the opposite direction of the crowd. I realized I lost sight of Keigo so I had no choice but to follow Akio up a hill where there stood a lonely tree that looked out over the meadow below.Â
âSince you and Keigo are keeping your relationship on the down low, you canât be seen lighting a lantern together otherwise people will start to suspect, so to accommodate for that,â Akio stepped aside from blocking my view as we headed up the hill to catch the sight of two vermilion wings greeting me at the top. Â
Multiple feathers shot in my direction and began to pull me up the hill quicker, some tugging me by the dress, others pushing me by my back meanwhile others pulling me by both arms. Suddenly I felt myself lifted off the ground by the aid of his feathers, I went flying straight into his arms having his lips meet mine.Â
âSorry, I just couldnât wait any longer, having to spend too much time away from you, I can't help it,â He smiled sheepishly.Â
âAww poor thing,â I pouted pitifully, giving him another kiss to compensate for his troubles.
Akio left us alone as we continued to be enveloped in each other's enamored embrace, having even forgotten he was there to begin with. Keigo got our lantern ready as we spotted everyone elseâs being released. The soft orange glowing lanterns began replacing the stars as they slowly drifted upward into the sky, ours however was a red lantern, fitting for the number two hero. The red hue of the lantern matched Keigoâs red wings. We both held the lantern up as Keigo began to ignite it with a match. The glow of the fire illuminated his tranquil features as he gazed into my eyes lovingly. I can see the tired look in his eyes from having mourned so much these past few nights.
â[y/n], I know these past couple of weeks have been extremely hard on us, and I am deeply sorry it had to come to this. I promised to protect you and I hope I can still redeem that promise. Truth is, I havenât experienced love like this before, love where the person you want wants you just as badly, one where it isnât just you having to compromise in order to meet their needs but yours being met as well, one where I actually matter and not just wanted for my status. From what I can tell, this is a first for you also. So all I ask is that⌠you be patient with me as we both figure this out together, because there is no one else I would rather do this with but you, with us, together. I was given another chance at love and I want to do this right. [Y/n] I love you, I really love you, so please⌠letâs move forward together, I donât want to do this alone anymore. We are a team, twin flames, soul mates, a kettle, whatever it is you want to name it I want to be thatâŚI want it all with you, the good and the bad. So don't hide from me anymore please?â
I was taken aback by his sudden declaration of love for me, I hadnât realized I meant that much to him. I have been told all my life that emotions were just a burden on others, so I did everything I could to appear small and not take up so much space in Keigoâs life. Tears were now streaming down my tired, heavy eyes. I knew now that in order to fully move on with Keigo I needed to fully close my past, in due time I will tell him everything, right now I just wanted to enjoy this moment with him.Â
âI love you too Keigo, I promise to never leave your side again,â I said, bawling my eyes out, probably looking like a complete mess.Â
He kept one hand holding onto the lantern wrapping his other arm around my waist to pull me close, planting a passionate kiss onto my quivering lips. And with that we both let go of the red lantern that slowly ascended into the sky, symbolizing us letting go of the pain and choosing to move forward.

I paced back and forth in the hospital waiting room, not being able to sit still. I hated the feeling of not knowing what was going on, as someone who was always one step ahead of everybody else. I felt so fucking useless. âHawks,â I quickly turned to the doctor who addressed me.Â
âWhatâs wrong?! what happened?! Is she going to be okay?!â I shot back at the doctor.Â
âHere, why donât we have you sit down and get a nurse to help clean you up?â the doctor politely offered.Â
I had not realized I was still covered in [Y/nâs] blood. The sight of the red stains on my hands reintroduced panic in me again. I stared down speechless, noticing it on my clothes as well. âDONâT TOUCH ME!â I snapped at one of the nurses that tried to wipe the blood from my face with a sanitation wipe. Was it weird to find a bit of comfort knowing a part of [Y/n] was here with me, as grim as it sounded I couldnât just let someone wipe away her existence from me. What if that's the only thing left I have of her?
The doctor waved the nurse away, giving the two of us a bit of privacy. âIâm sorry, I just need to know sheâs okay,â I pleaded to the doctor.Â
âAnd thatâs perfectly reasonable, we were able to stabilize her but she is still unconscious recovering from the loss of blood. We are going to have her rest here for the night and see how she's doing in the morning, however the baby was not able to make it, Iâm sorry.âÂ
âThe⌠baby?â My heart dropped as I looked at the doctor in confusion.Â
âYou didnât know? [Y/l/n] was pregnant, eleven weeks to be exact,â the doctor said looking through [Y/nâs] medical record on his clipboard. âI assume you are the father or⌠was?âÂ
My mind went blank, having no response; I was only able to form tears. I slowly turned away from the doctor âH-Hawks?â I ignored his call.Â
I calmly walked to the family bathroom locking the door behind me. I leaned my back against the bathroom door letting my body slide down onto the floor succumbing to my grief. My vision was blurred by the tears in my eyes that slowly made their way down my face. I was too choked up to even make a sound at first as I buried my face into my knees, grabbing at my hair as I internalized my pain till my chest couldnât contain it any longer. I threw my head back as an animalistic cry exited my throat, my wings shot feathers in all directions at once penetrating the walls and shattering the bathroom mirror. My misery was my only company along with the echoes of my cry.Â
I laid there lifelessly I assume for about an hour or so, not that I was counting the minutes, when I heard a knock at the door. A nurse on the other side asked if I was okay. Without any response I slowly lifted myself off the floor and opened the door, âIâll pay for all the damages,â I mumbled walking past the nurse as I headed back to the waiting room, my feathers removing themselves from the walls slowly drifted to the floor following behind me. People whispered at the sight of me, shocked to see the happy, carefree, chipper pro hero covered in blood with his feathers dragging on the floor and an emotionless expression on his face. I heard the clicking of someoneâs cell phone camera aimed at me but I was too numb to even care.Â
âExcuse me, Iâm going to have to ask you to delete that photo or Iâll confiscate it, this is a private matter. Show some fucking respect!â I heard a voice in the same direction.
I looked over to see Akio scolding the person who took the photo of me, snatching the phone out of their hand and proceeding to delete the image from the device. âAkio?â I was relieved to see a familiar face. Akio turned around and rushed towards me.
âHey boss, Iâm sorry I took a while to get here. I was on the other side of town - Whoa, Is it that bad?â he asks, shocked to see my current condition. I had no response to his question, the look on my face said it all. âLetâs get you out of here,â Akio grabbed me by the arm before anyone else could see me and dragged me to the rooftop of the hospital to get fresh air.Â
Technically we werenât supposed to be up here, but nobody bothered to stop us; I guess I looked like shit and the hospital staff couldnât help but feel sorry for me. Akio had gone down to the cafeteria for some snacks but came back with some canned coffee instead since my appetite was gone for once.Â
âHere I got you your favorite,â he handed me the can of coffee.
Akio sat there in silence with me. Even though I couldnât form any words he knew well that I just needed the company. He didnât bother to ask anything until I was ready to talk. Iâm definitely giving this man a raise.Â
It was already five in the morning, the sun began to peek through the horizon giving the sky a pink hue. It would have been a blissful sight had I not experienced such a tragic loss so suddenly, that I have still yet to come to terms with. âAkio, you should probably go home and get some sleep,â I suggested, still fixing my gaze to the sunrise.
âNope, Iâm staying right here,â he protested, snapping back awake.Â
âAs your boss I'm ordering you-â
âAs your friend, I'm staying here. Besides it's not like you're paying me to,â he interrupted. Â
âYou know Akio, you can be such a pain in my ass,â I let out a small chuckle under my breath.Â
A nurse came up. âHawks, the doctor would like to talk with you,â she announced. I took a deep breath not sure if I was ready to hear the news of [Y/nâs] status. âIâll wait for you at the lobby,â Akio reassured me. We both headed down to be greeted by the doctor, Akio excused himself giving the doctor and I some privacy.Â
âHow is she?â, I asked hesitantly.
âShe is conscious now and just recovering from all the blood loss. We were able to determine the cause of the miscarriage, turns out the child developed your mutation in the womb adding more stress to the body. Miss [Y/l/n] wasnât receiving enough nutrition to support the proper development for the childâs mutation, thus causing the body to abort it.âÂ
I was taken aback âwhen will I be able to see her?â
âI am afraid miss [Y/l/n] isnât receiving any visitors at the moment.âÂ
âHow can you not permit me to see her?!â I snapped.
âThese arenât my orders but hers,â I looked at him confused.
âSheâs consumed with grief at the moment, she gave us permission to update you on the matter, but as of right now she just canât help but blame herself. This is a common response with many women who suffer from a miscarriage,â He explained.Â
âPlease tell her that I love her, and I donât blame her for any of this,â I pleaded.
âI will, please go home and get some rest,â the doctor ordered. I could see the sympathy in his eyes as he placed his hand on my shoulder to comfort me the best he could.Â
I didn't protest any further and saw myself out of the hospital to be met with Akio waiting for me in the lobby like he said he would. âSo what now?â he asked.
âJust take me away, anywhere but home, I'm not ready to go back there.âÂ
âI got you, you can come stay at my place till you are ready.â
Akio led me to his car in the underground parking lot to avoid any paparazzi from seeing me exiting the hospital and from there we headed to his apartment. Not realizing how exhausted I was I face planted onto his couch completely knocking out as soon as my head met the throw pillows. I just wanted to forget I even existed for a while.Â
I was woken up by the sound of sizzling, my eyes flew open to meet Akioâs back facing me as he was whipping up something on the stove. âSorry, I passed out,â I said groaning, rising from the couch to see he had laid a blanket over me while I was sleeping.
âIt's all good, mi casa es su casa. Go ahead and get yourself cleaned up the bathroom is down the hall first door on the right. I left some clothes in there you can borrow. I figured we are about the same size.â
âThanks Akio, you really don't have to do this.âÂ
âYou would be doing it for me too if it were the other way around. Now hurry up, food is almost ready and you need to eat something.â
I watched him for a moment as he continued cooking, I'm glad I have him for a secretary, and a friend. I made my way to the bathroom. I stripped off my clothes that were still covered in [Y/nâs] and my unborn childâs dried up blood. I held my clothes tightly to my chest as I began sobbing once more coming to terms with my reality yet again. These emotions came in waves, one moment I felt absolutely numb, the next I felt everything all at once. I just wanted her back in my arms, why was that so much to ask?
I took one last look in the mirror examining the blood on my face, hands, and neck before I stepped into the shower. The cold water ran through my hair and down my wings and back. I sobbed some more, this time louder now that the running water drowned out my cries. I let the grief spill out along with the bloody water down the drain, visualizing as though I am washing away the pain even if itâs for a moment, knowing full well it will still be there to greet me once I step out back into reality.Â
I met with Akio back in the kitchen a moment later wearing the clothes he laid out for me as he was finishing up dinner. âGlad you could join us, you can leave your clothes in the laundry basket, I can send them to the pro heroâs dry cleaners for you first thing tomorrow morning,â he offered.
âNo need, I am just going to end up throwing them out. Thereâs no way I could wear these again especially around [Y/n].âÂ
âShame, they looked so good on you. But then again you could make anything look good, hell you look better than me even in my own clothes,â Akio attempted to make me feel better.
âThanks wifey,â I teased dully.
âJust speaking truths hubby,â he winked. Akio and I picked up a habit of acting like a married couple whenever I was mobbed by fangirls as he chased them away claiming to be my secret gay lover, it stuck with us ever since.
I took a couple bites of my dinner out of courtesy, I never rejected a home cooked meal after all. âI saved this for emergencies,â Akio poured me a glass of red wine to ease me up as I finally opened up about what had happened last night. He sat there listening to me, I could have sworn the man was in love with me, why else would he go through all the trouble? Or maybe Akio was just a genuine person with a fine taste for red wine? or hidden motives? There goes my paranoid mind again, over analyzing everything as always. Just take the generosity Keigo.
I too learned a bit about Akioâs tough upbringing and experiences with his loss of loved ones reassuring me that it will get better despite the pain always being there, there will be happy days to come again.Â
âI should probably check my phone and see if I got any missed calls,â I said looking for my phone.
âI would stay away from your phone, let alone the media for a while.â
âWhy's that? Where did you put it?â
âJust trust me on this, I'll let you know if anything important comes up, but for now just lay low and take a break from it.â
The news about me showing up to the hospital causing such a scene must have been all over the media. I trusted Akioâs word for it and let it be as he proceeded to refill my once empty glass with wine. With a couple more drinks I found myself yet again passing out on Akioâs couch. He went ahead and took the liberty of calling me in from work and even though I offered to go home, Akio refused to let me out of his sight. Now I know how [Y/n] feels, speaking of which there was still no word from her. Akio kept tabs on my phone and would have let me know if I received anything from her. Panic began to set in.
âHey, she will call. I wouldnât worry about it,â Akio reassured me, noticing the worried look in my eyes and my wings tensing up. Akio could read my wings pretty well.
âWhat if this is it? What if she can never bring herself to see me again?â
âShe loves you Kei, and itâs because she loves you she's punishing herself for losing your child. Even though we both know it isnât her fault itâs going to affect her differently, just be patient with her.â
âI just⌠miss her so much. I need to go see her.â I quickly jumped to my feet heading for the window.
âKei! You just canât force yourself in her life right now!â Akio chased me as I jumped out the window. âHoly shit!â Akio held onto my leg for dear life as he tried stopping me. Akioâs apartment floor was at least eight stories high.
I grabbed a hold of his arms pulling him into my chest wrapping my arms around his. My adrenaline was running faster than I could even fly, refusing to stop even for Akio.Â
âI love you bro, but I seriously hate you right now!â he screams.
I shot through the sky placing my hand over Akios eyes abstaining the wind from impacting them. Her house was finally in view as I swooped down to the front gate. I gently placed Akio down first, he was relieved to be on solid ground. I began to make my way in when Akio grabbed a hold of my shoulder âKeigo stop! Think about what you are doing right now.â
âI just want to know sheâs okay!â I snapped, swiping his hand away.
âKei look at yourself! Your eyes have turned red, you look exhausted, you are only going to overwhelm her!â
âAkio⌠I'm losing it, I can keep going on like this.â
âWell you are just going to have to be strong for her.â
Suddenly we both were caught off guard by the porch light turning on, Akio pulled me aside out of view, hiding us both behind the gate. My heart suddenly stopped at the sight of [Y/n] coming out of her house, she wore one of my hoodies looking just as exhausted as I was, she clearly hadnât slept in days. I quickly slipped a feather into her mailbox as she pulled out the mail not realizing it was there wedged between the letters she clutched in her arm. She headed back inside as I fought every urge inside me to run over to her and take her in my arms, she was so close to me.Â
âThere, you saw her now,â Akio stood up from our hiding spot while wiping off the dirt from his pants. I sat there leaning my head against the gate not wanting to leave my post until Akio yanked me up, forcing me onto my feet. âLetâs go for a walk to cool down for a bit,â Akio dragged me along with him.
We ended up walking past the park where I found [Y/n] hiding from me in the bush that one time while I was on patrol, it was all making sense now. âOh fuck, not this,â Akio mumbled. I was too distracted by my own nostalgia âlet's get out of here, they probably saw you head this way or someone gave them a tip of your location,â he continued explaining. I looked ahead to see a mob of reporters headed in my direction. I took a deep breath ready to face this head on knowing that if I didn't do it now the commission would have me make a public statement eventually. âItâs okay Akio, Iâll take it from here.â
âHawks!â One reporter began to shout over anotherâs question as they all gathered around me, blinding me with their cameras while shoving their mics in my face flooding in with questions. Akio blocked them from coming any closer trying to quiet them down. I yanked the closest mic from me out of the reporters hand switching into my alter ego. âHey guys, settle down now, there's only one of me to go around. Now I know why you are all gathered here-â
âHawks! Can you tell us why you were seen covered in blood in the hospital?!â one reporter interrupted.
âI was⌠simply helping aid a friend who got hurt during an accident.â
âIs this friend close?â One of them asked
âYeah, you can say that.â
âAre they going to be okay?â asked another.
âWell, I would like to hope so.â
âAre YOU going to be okay?â, one question rang out above all the others that stung right through my chest. All the reporters went silent.
I paused for a moment, not sure how to answer âam I going to be okay?â. I couldn't form the right response at the moment causing my ego to break. My hands began to shake all of a sudden not realizing a tear was beginning to form in my right eye. âHawks?â the sound of my name conjured my alter ego back.Â
âSorry, there's just so many questionsâ I chuckled, quickly wiping the tear away.
âI think that is enough questions for now,â Akio stepped in, taking note of my discomfort.
âThank you for your concern everyone, I highly appreciate it,â I flashed them a small smile before handing them back the mic.Â
I pulled Akio close to me âLetâs go, hubby,â I jokingly mumbled to him. I expanded my wings before the crowd could try to squeeze in another question and shot straight into the sky leaving the reporters behind with the sound of Akioâs screams.Â
âWow you really canât keep your hands off me,â I teased Akio who was clinging onto me for dear life.Â
âS-shut up!â he snapped back at me.Â
We got to his apartment a moment later, Akio jumped off of me throwing himself onto the ground as we entered through the same window we exited. âSo dramatic,â I mocked, throwing myself onto the ground next to him. I rolled onto my back to face the ceiling as the atmosphere calmed down, Akio looked over at me examining my features. Yep heâs in love with me.Â
âHey, are you really going to be okay? You never answered the question,â he asked in concern.Â
âSo long as sheâs breathing, and her heart is still beating, Iâll be fine,â I mumbled trying to convince not only him but myself.Â
âUhh, speaking of which, you got a text from her just now asking if she can come over to your place tomorrow to talk. Seems like she saw you on tv - damn those reporters work fast.âÂ
I quickly yanked my phone back from Akio to see her name light up on the screen. My heart began to race as my wings flapped in excitement uncontrollably. âI have to go! Iâm going to make her a big meal this time and go all out with flowers! No wait, I donât want to scare her off, oh god Iâm so nervous I donât know what sheâs going to say!âÂ
âKeigo, just be yourself dude. Be the man she needs you to be and just be there for one anotherâ Akio said, calming me down. âYou got this, itâs all going to work out. Just watch.âÂ
Yeah, heâs right, we will get through this together. I hugged Akio unexpectedly, thanking him for everything and jumped back out the window flying straight to my high rise apartment to prepare for [Y/nâs] arrival.
I stayed up all night cleaning up with the aid of my feathers only to have slept for four hours. I got up in the morning to head to the store to prepare for dinner. I'm going to make her favorite meal! People were shocked to see me out so chipper despite the encounter with yesterdayâs media, I tried to ignore the scandals but people had taken notice of my attempts to cover up my tears when being asked if I was okay. âHey Hawks! Are you feeling better?â, one person asked âWe love you Hawks!â, another person added. I gave them all a smile and wave thanking them as I continued getting everything I needed in a hurry, not stopping for photos or signatures. I finally rushed back home when all of a sudden [Y/n] caught my eye entering my apartment complex building.Â
âAlready? But itâs barely noon!â I quickly flew through my balcony and set the groceries in the kitchen as I ran to the elevator heading down to the lobby when the doors slid open to see [Y/n] standing there on the other side. I hesitated for a moment, not sure if she still didnât want me near her, we stared into each otherâs eyes in shock to see one another so suddenly and itâs as if we instinctively knew what we were both thinking. We threw ourselves into each otherâs arms. I pulled her into the elevator closing the doors right behind her leaving the two of us finally alone.Â
I held her so tight against me I could feel both of our hearts pounding against one another, our breaths heavy âIâm so sorry,â she whispers.
âShh, itâs okay. You donât have to say it just please donât let me go,â I begged.Â
Her grip grew tighter gripping my shirt in the palm of her hands against my back as she let out a cry, sobbing into my chest I couldnât help but to sob with her. A moment later the elevator doors opened and I picked her up and carried her into the penthouse. I gently placed her on the living room couch as I knelt down in front of her on the floor, I placed my head face down into her lap wrapping my arms around her waist pulling her in closer to me. She rested her forehead against the back of my head as we both continued to sob. I just needed to be like this for a moment, feeling her here with me.Â
I slowly lifted my head to look up at her with tears still in our eyes. She planted a kiss on my lips without any hesitation. It felt good to feel her warmth and breath bringing my cold lips back to life. I held her head to make the moment last as long as she would allowme to. If only it could have lasted a little while longer. She slowly pulled away to look down at me with her crestfallen eyes, I knew there was something else she still had yet to tell me.Â
âKeigoâŚâ she whispered.
âYes my love?â I whispered back concerned.Â
âThereâs something I have to tell you, Iâm not sure how you are going to feel about this. And if you donât want to be with me after, I completely understand,â she choked back tears.Â
âDonât say that, donât ever say that,â I sat up wrapping my arms around her tightly along with my wings âThereâs nothing you could say to make me not want you!â My voice was shaking with worry.Â
âKeigo I⌠I can no longer bear children,â she sobbed. My heart dropped at her words; I knew I needed to say something but I couldnât form the right response. What does someone even say to something like that? âThe doctor said the development of the babyâs wings caused permanent damage to my uterus. The likelihood of me ever conceiving again is slim to none. Keigo⌠Iâm so sorry!â
She continued sobbing after telling me all of this, but I still couldnât force the words I wanted to say out loud. I felt completely overwhelmed, not being able to comfort her when I couldnât even comfort myself in this moment. I watched her cry, feeling useless yet again. Clearly heartbroken by my silence, she quickly stood up, pushing me away as she ran for the door.Â
No.
I wasnât going to let her get away from me this time! I quickly shot straight for her and in a blink of an eye grabbing a hold of her wrist and pulling her back into my embrace. âIâm not letting you go - not again, not ever,â I whispered in her ear, my voice shaking as I choked back tears as she continued crying.Â
âItâs not your fault [Y/n],â I said, holding her tighter.
âI should have told you as soon as I found out about the baby, I robbed you of the chance of the idea of even being a father!â she cried.
âIt doesn't matter anymore, I just want you! I want us to be okay. We will get through this, I promise. Just let me be here for you now,â I said soothingly as I caressed her hair.Â
She no longer could speak, being consumed with grief all I could do was continue to hold her and sooth the pain away the best I could. She was so strong for me, it was now my turn to be strong for her.Â
Moments later she fell asleep in my arms and I could tell she hadn't slept well in quite a while. I carried her into the bedroom tucking her into bed. I began to cook for her knowing she most likely hasnât eaten in a few days either. When the meal was all prepped I checked to see that [Y/n] was still sound asleep. I went ahead and packed the meal away, saving it for later, not wanting to wake her.
I crawled in bed as quietly as I could, sliding my arms around her taking us both under my wing. I laid there just glad to have her back in my arms, under my wings and in my bed with me, there was no way I was ever going to let her leave my side again. The thought of how lonely she must have been these past several days pained me, I found myself sobbing yet again into her chest when all of a sudden I felt her arms hug my head, she was now the one comforting me. We both laid there continuing to sob some more, mourning the loss of our unborn child, but at least we have each other now.
The end.
(Coming soon our wholesome fluf after story of Birds, Bees and Blood đš)
(Warning, this story contains the topic of miscarriage, blood, and anxiety)Â
I waited in a dimly lit room alone while laying on the medical bed next to the monitor, anxiously waiting for the ultrasound technician. A year ago, I would have never pictured Keigo and I to end up here. My body grew numb. I began to dissociate from my current situation as I processed my reality. âIs this even real?â
A sudden knock disrupted the silence in the room. âHello, miss [Y/l/n].â I snapped back to reality at the ring of the technicianâs voice.
âI'm going to have you lift your shirt up to your diaphragm, and lower your pants slightly below your pelvic bone,â she said while handing me a towel. âThis is going to feel a bit cold,â she narrated as she squirted the transparent gel onto my lower pelvic area and began gliding the ultrasound knop along the gel coated area of my stomach.Â
I laid there motionless. My body feeling as though it were no longer my own. The monitor began to make a strange pulsating noise. âAnd that there is the heartbeat,â the ultrasound technician demonstrated. I slowly turned to look at the monitor, still confused to what I was looking at exactly. I started to feel guilty that the woman taking my ultrasound seemed to be more excited about this baby than I was. Maybe due to the fact that I felt as though I didnât deserve to have this child.Â
There was a lot about my past Keigo doesnât know that could possibly affect the upbringing of this child. Keigo deserves to know who exactly he chose to raise his child with after all. My imposter syndrome was getting the better of me.Â
âFrom what Iâm able to see here you are about 9 weeks pregnant due to the size of the baby,â she continued to explain, âDo you or your partner happen to have a mutation that we should be aware of?âÂ
âUhm,â I was quickly thrown off guard by the question. I didnât want to give too much detail away, knowing how this could reflect on Hawkâs career when it came to the media. âI prefer not to say, for⌠legal reasons,â I awkwardly avoided eye contact.Â
The technician looked at me confused. âOh, so itâs THAT kind of affair, I see.â âWhat the fuck does that mean?â, âWe recommended you schedule a follow up appointment in four weeks so we can keep a good eye on the baby's development,â she concluded. âOther than that everything looks good for now, go ahead and clean yourself up and you are free to go,â she said as she took off her rubber gloves. The technician excused herself from the room right after.Â
I quickly wiped the gel off my stomach with the towel she handed me earlier and put myself back together before heading out. I decided to walk home since I didnât live far from the clinic, giving me an opportunity to think. I took in the fresh air deciding to stop by at the park near my home. All was peaceful as I was finally left alone to my thoughts, until a sudden crowd of people began to form in the distance.Â
Looking towards all the commotion, I recognized two broad vermilion wings peeking out from the crowd of people. âOh shit!â I wasnât ready for this confrontation yet! I quickly looked around me for an escape route when I spotted a little bush, yes I know⌠a fucking bush. I knew there was no point in fleeing since out running the bird was out of the question. I dived into the bush out of view and shut my eyes, covering my mouth trying to make as little noise as possible in hopes that his damn feathers didnât sense me.Â
âSo why are we hiding, baby bird?â, I heard a low voice startle me from behind.Â
âHow did you know?!â, I turned around to see Keigoâs amber glare.
âKnow what?â, He smiled childishly.Â
âKnow⌠about me hiding here?â, I quickly tried to recover my ground thinking he was referring to the literal baby.Â
âWell, I saw someone suspiciously try to hide from me in a bush and normally thatâs a sign that they are up to no good so I decided to investigate and turns out it was just my weird girlfriend- Awww are you too flustered to be seen with me in public?â, He said teasingly as he pulled me in and began nibbling at my neck.
âSo now that weâre here,â his demeanor quickly changed from playful to seductive at his offer.Â
âUh, hey I uh⌠Iâm still not really feeling well Keigo, I actually just came back from my check up at the doctorâs office.âÂ
âHow are you feeling? Do you need me to drop by again and make you some more soup?â, He said as the guilt grew inside me. Literally.
I hated having to keep my distance from him, but I had to make sure his hands werenât wandering off and that his feathers didnât pick up a second heartbeat until I found the right time to tell him about the pregnancy- which has to be soon, because how much longer can this man hold out?Â
As I was getting up, I felt Keigo unexpectedly grab a hold of my wrist, pulling me back down into his embrace with my back pressed against his broad chest as I was seated on his lap. His wings wrapped around us, engulfing me in his body heat as he buried his face into my neck, tightening his grip over my shoulders. I could have sworn I felt the baby squirm in my belly, but it may have just been my nerves reacting to Keigoâs touch. Â
âCan I just hold you like this for a moment before you go, please?â, He whimpered.Â
âK-Kei are you okay?â, I questioned petting his head.Â
âUh⌠yeah itâs just been a hard day. Honestly, I dropped by your side of town hoping I would run into you, or at least get a glimpse of you. Iâm technically not supposed to be here,â he giggled, trying to hide the pain in his voice.Â
I wanted to tell him right then and there so badly but I couldnât, now clearly wasnât the time. âI tell you what: stop by today after work and I can whip up something for you to eat, sound good?â, I negotiated. He nodded into my shoulder, still covering his face. I could feel his grip around my arms tighten for a moment before releasing me back into the world.Â
With a kiss goodbye we went our separate ways, and it was quite a struggle to get him to let go of my hand finally - not that I wanted him to - but the world needed him too. He gave me one last longing look as his phone rang to notify him about an emergency in his patrol area, and off he went. I was planning on telling him over dinner that night but the nerves got the better of me yet again. It went on like this for the next two weeks, a game of cat and mouse. Hiding a baby from him was near impossible because the man could never keep his hands to himself.Â
One morning while we were asleep (or so I thought) I almost gave myself away. I was sleeping on my stomach facing away from Keigo when I felt his hand slide under my shirt and began tweaking at my tits, the sensitivity sent a shock of pleasure running up my spine. Keigo proceeded to press his body into mine, running his hands up my thigh as I felt his erection pushing through his sweatpants against my ass. He was breathing heavily into my back while trying to refrain his primal urges, as if he was the only one having trouble here. My body was over stimulated with raging hormones causing it to become sensitive to his every touch. I bit down on my lip to choke back a moan but I could no longer control myself, with every thrust he pushed harder and harder into me. My body now having a mind of its own rolled onto him, straddling him as I grinded on his throbbing heat. My nipples peeked through the thin shirt that I stole from Keigoâs closet as my breast bounced at every pound. Keigo watched, reading my body well and began to dry hump even faster and harder, digging his fingers into my thighs âUhhh, ahh ah!â, My body sang praises to his dance. I was so enthralled in the heat of the moment allowing it to consume me, forgetting who I was or where I was, when all of a sudden I felt the tension spill out of me⌠no literally spill out of me âoh fuck!â I moaned, releasing onto Keigo succumbing to my body's desire.Â
I sat there in shock for a moment still straddling him, âdid I just cum all over him?!â He hadnât even inserted himself into me yet! I quickly jumped off in embarrassment, my mind not registering the way he looked up at me in soft adoration. âN-no, wait!âKeigo pleaded, trying to stop me as I ran for the bathroom.Â
I slammed the door shut behind me catching my breath. I never knew my body would react in such a way to just foreplay alone. I felt bad leaving Keigo there, probably just as confused as I was. âIs he getting any ideas?â. I quickly cleaned myself up and decided to jump in the shower to wash my shame away when I heard a knock at the door.Â
âHey, uh, mind if I join you? I mean since you made a mess of me after all,â he offered, letting out a nervous chuckle afterwards. My face turned red in embarrassment.Â
âSorry! Iâll be quick babe, and then you can have it all to yourself!â, I couldnât let him see me naked with the baby bump starting to show. âIâm so sorry Keigo please just wait a bit longerâ, This wasnât easy for me either.Â
We never spoke about what happened that morning, leaving the atmosphere between us awkward. I became paranoid to his suspicions because I knew he isnât stupid⌠for the most part. The guy could read body language very well and knew when you were lying, not to mention feathers. I jumped away to every surprise hug he would give me from behind, and pulled away whenever he was getting too close to me in general. I could see the pain in his eyes from my rejection, making these two long weeks agonizing.
I cried myself to sleep every night hugging one of Keigoâs shirts, using it as a pillowcase. I hope Keigo would understand when I asked him for some space, when all I wanted was nothing more than to be in his arms. I just needed some time to gather my thoughts on how I am going to tell him his life will be permanently changed forever. I wasnât sure if he even wanted kids, with him being at the top of his game in his career. âWas this pregnancy just going to slow him down?â I just didnât want to be a burden to him. I held the pillow tightly imagining it to be him as I did every night till I fell asleep exhausted from all the cries.Â
One morning I finally was able to build up the courage to make the decision that today was the day to tell him. Keigo had every right to know, this isn't fair for me to punish the both of us any longer. I wanted to plan something cute to surprise him but my anxiety won this round not knowing what his reaction might be. So I just invited him to a simple dinner again.Â
The night drew near as dinner had been ready on the table waiting for Keigoâs arrival. He was running pretty late, which drove my nerves crazy. I couldnât sit still, constantly finding myself walking back and forth from the dining room table to the living room window to check and see if he was in view yet. He didnât sound too excited when I invited him over last night knowing it was to talk, and that never sounds like a good thing. âMaybe I should have eased him up a little? Was I too straight forward?â, I just wanted to get this over with. Finally I heard the sound of flapping wings swoosh down to the front porch followed by a thud as he landed.Â
My nerves were now hard to hide watching my hands tremble âwhy am I so scared?â, the lack of control I had over my body frustrated me. âWhatâs the worst that could happen?â, I tried gathering what little courage I could as I headed over to the front door. With one deep breath and my hand on the knob, I twisted to push the door open.Â
Keigo stood there in a black cashmere turtleneck with a gold chain to match his rings and earrings and a khaki trench coat and matching pants. His hair was nicely slicked back, revealing the uneasy look he had on his face; it was clear that he wasn't sure what this occasion was about exactly, but he was still putting the effort to show up anyway.Â
âHere, I got these for you,â he said nervously, pulling out a box of freshly baked hazelnut chocolate covered croissants in one hand and a bouquet of red roses in the other.
âThese smell amazing, where did you even find a bakery open at this time?â
âI uh, know a guyâ he handed me the box and flowers, a tense feeling in the atmosphere was still lingering between us. âAre you going to invite me in?â, Keigo asked with his usual puppy eyes stabbing me right through the heart, âdamn these hormones!â
âY-yes! Iâm so sorry Iâve just been, so out of it,â I stepped aside inviting him in.Â
He made his way in with his hands in his pockets and his head hanging low. I placed the bouquet of roses in a vase before centering them on the table, they looked lovely. The rest of the night continued on awkwardly, breaking the silence between us here and there trying to start a conversation. âUgh just tell him already!â I grew frustrated with myself.Â
Keigo noticed the frustration in my face reaching out to touch my hand at his attempts to comfort me when I quickly sat up, unknowingly pulling away, due to being thrown off guard. âDamn this looks badâ I thought as I noticed the familiar dejected look on his face in response to my rejection.
âI - Kei, I didnât mean it like that, itâs justâŚâÂ
Why couldnât I form any words?
âDidnât mean it like what exactly? That you donât want me near you anymore? That you are having me less and less around, not to mention that we havenât had sex since our last attempt that we have yet to talk about?â, His words were soft but still stung badly.Â
âKeigo I-,â I couldnât speak now, tears forming in my eyes. âIâm so scaredâ He got up without a word and wrapped me in his arms holding me close with his wings.Â
âPlease just tell me whatâs wrong? Stop running from me, let me help you,â he begged.
âIf only it were that easy, I wanted to, believe me I just.. canâtâ, it was as if my anxiety was grabbing a hold of my throat disabling me to say a word, all I could do was cry. âItâs okay, I'm right here. I am not going to let anything bad happen to you. Just breathe for me,â his hero instinct kicked in.Â
âThese were not my emotions, or were they? Was this more than just about the baby?â The room went silent as a sudden wringing began to fill my head muffling Keigo's voice, itâs happening again. A headache pursued growing stronger as the wringing became louder when suddenly a sharp pain began to form in my stomach. âAghh!â, I pushed Keigo away as I stumbled to the side of the table, knocking the vase with roses over. I crushed a rose in my fist as I hunched over in pain.
â[Y/n]?!â, I heard Keigoâs muffed cry, this all feels too familiar like⌠my nightmares.Â
âOh god, youâre bleeding!â, I heard his muffled voice cry again. My body feels numb from all the pain causing me to fall. Keigo caught me before I hit the ground. He kneeled beside me looking down at me, while holding my fragile body close to his as we were now covered in blood and roses.
My eyes tried to focus on him as I was coming in and out of consciousness. âKeigo, Iâm so sorry⌠I wanted to tell you-!â, These were my last whispers to him before I was met with the void of silence.Â

Iâm exhausted as usual but now more than ever. I haven't had the energy to get anything done but choosing to stay in bed in hopes that my will to live will somehow find me. Sadly that just isn't how life works. I pushed forward through the day, âDamn, how does Keigo find all that energy?â I asked myself while making a cup of coffee. I sip at the brewed murky beverage, the bitter taste suddenly caused me to gag.Â
âDid I make it wrong? Did I not empty out the filter of the coffee maker first?â I couldnât stand the bitterness and dumped it out into the sink âwhat a wasteâ. Suddenly the smell of coffee filled the air along with the steam as I drained my mug, the smell renviting the taste back into my mouth. I quickly hurled into the sink âthis is so disgustingâ.Â
âIs that coffee I smell?â I heard a familiar voice behind me.
I shot back around to cover my embarrassment turning on the sink to wash away all the evidence. âHeh, or my failed attempt at coffeeâ, I answered Keigo trying to laugh it all off. He was wearing his hero suit ready to take off for work after he had his fill. Already serving himself a cup loaded in French vanilla creamer of course âI wouldnât, it didn't come out very goodâÂ
I attempted to stop him but was already too late. He chugged his beverage down, âHush, it tastes fine to me. Thanks babeâ he hugged me from behind giving me a peck on the cheek completely unphased. âIâll see you after work?â he questioned as he headed out the back door.Â
âMaybe you should stay over at your place tonight? Iâm not feeling very well, I might be getting sick and donât want you to catch whatever this might be, the world needs you in top shape after all,â I reasoned.Â
âHey, Iâll stop by to check in on you, let me know if there's anything I can pick up for you on my way backâ he reassured.Â
âThanks Kei, Iâll be fine though,â I smiled.Â
âLove yah, love dove,â he smiled back from the doorway before shooting up straight into the sky.
Suddenly a headache began to creep in, maybe I was just dehydrated from having thrown up. I drank a glass of water and headed back for bed, tomorrow will be my day, or so I thought. I tossed and turned in bed for a while until I was able to pass out. What felt like a minute later, I was woken up by the feeling of something cold touching my forehead. My eyes feeling heavy slowly opened to meet a pair of glowing amber eyes looking back down at me in concern.Â
âHey there love dove, feeling okay? Youâre burning upâ Keigoâs soft voice filled the void in the room. The lights were off and it was too dark. I was barely able to make out his face. âHmm what time is it?â I groaned. âItâs already 6 in the afternoon, are you sure you are okay? I think I should stay tonight to keep an eye on youâ.
âN-no itâs fine I'll just go to the doctors if this continuesâ I said trying to sit up only to feel my body give out, âoh wow, maybe I am dyingâ.Â
âI already made you an appointment tomorrow morning love dove, I came to check in on you during my lunch to see that you were still sleeping and didn't want to wake you, only to find you still in bed hours later. I am going to call off work tomorrow and-âÂ
âKeigo no, I can get myself to the doctors appointment tomorrow. You are the number two hero, you donât get to have the luxury of calling in from work over something that will probably just turn out to be a small fever, people get them all the time. Itâs no big dealâ Deep down I would always feel guilty whenever Keigo took time off for me at the potential cost of someone elseâs life, because even though I know there are plenty of heroes out there, none are like him. Â
He looked down at me, his eyes silently begging me to protest further to accept his aid but knowing full well my stubbornness would win in the end. âFineâ, he sighed, âBut I'm staying over tonight; I'll have Akio drive you to your appointment tomorrow and back,â he demanded. âNow stay in bed-I'm going to make you some chicken noodle soupâ, he said while stripping off his uniform and going through his side of the closet to change into something more comfortable.Â
He headed straight for the kitchen to whip something up; I could hear him going through the cabinets, pots and pans as they clang together loudly, and turning on the kitchen stove, followed by the sound of the fridge opening and closing shut and chopping noises on the cutting board. It would have sounded like a whole team of chefs took over the kitchen had I not known that Keigo cooked using his feathers to chop veggies swiftly while he preps the broth with seasoning as the rest of his feathers did all the work, such as bringing him whatever he needed. He was a god in the kitchen. He loved to cook for others but never himself; according to him food just tastes better when someone else makes it for you.
A moment later he came back into the room with a steaming bowl of soup placed on a tray with flowers. The smell of it brought me back to life as I sat up not realizing how hungry I was. I loved Keigoâs cooking despite it putting mine to shame. âCareful love dove, itâs hotâ he placed the tray of food on my lap.Â
I blew on a spoon full of soup before slurping it up. âMmmmh babe, this hit the spotâ, I said, feeling my taste buds dance with flavor.Â
âIâm glad you like it, I hope I didnât overdo it with the rosemary and thymeâ he chuckled sitting beside me on the bed.Â
âNo itâs just perfect, is that ginger and turmeric I taste?âÂ
âYeah, it will help ease your stomachâ.Â
âOh, so you did see thatâ, I said, hiding my face in embarrassment.Â
âItâs okay babe it happensâ, he smiled.Â
âWell, you are going to have to teach me this recipeâ I quickly tried to change the subject
âBut if I do that, then you wonât need me to make it for you when you get sickâ, he pouted, throwing on puppy eyes.Â
âIâd kiss you if I werenât sickâ, I chuckled.Â
I fell back asleep shortly after eating my soup and Keigo took my empty bowl to wash the dishes. He went ahead and cleaned up the place with the aid of his feathers, which I was embarrassed by because I had planned on getting that done today. I guess I shouldnât be ashamed to ask for help once in a while or feel like a burden when he takes care of me, Iâm just not used to this kind treatment from another human being, let alone one so attractive, this is every girl's dream after all.Â
I woke up to yet another headache, probably from laying in bed all day yesterday.Â
âHey baby bird, Akio is going to be here in twenty to take you to your appointment. I laid out some comfortable clothes for you to wear, do you have enough strength to get up to change or do you need my help?â, Keigo asked softly, clearly concerned.Â
âIâm not a child, Keigo, I can dress myselfâ, I said rubbing my eyes.Â
âOkay, okay, Iâll leave you to it thenâ, he said, backing off and exiting the room.Â
I got up still feeling a bit lethargic but not as bad as yesterday and began to get dressed, choosing to wear some comfortable leggings Keigo picked out. I spotted the sweater he was wearing last night in the laundry basket and decided to throw that on instead of the one he picked out for me. It was loose, of course, but it made me feel snug and safe, plus it smelled like him so there was no way I was going to take it off. âReadyâ, I headed out the door, seeing him in his hero uniform at the kitchen table going through his phone, probably reading the local news as always with a cup of ginger, honey, and lemon tea for me. He looked up from his phone, his face turning red at the sight of me in his sweater. Without a word he took a picture with his cellphone. âHey! I look like shitâ, I pouted.Â
âIâm sorry babe, you just look so fucking cute! I just had to,â he giggled as he walked up to me, lifting me up in his arms. He started kissing my neck when we were interrupted by the sound of a car horn. âThat must be Akioâ, we both mumbled in annoyance. I quickly downed the tea Keigo made me and we both headed out the door. He grabbed my purse and locked up the place with his feathers, He helped me into the car, handing me my bag, and buckling me in the back seat with one last kiss on the cheek. âWow, you look like shit, [Y/n]â, Akio teased.Â
âSee, I knew you would get itâ, I shot back.Â
âGet what?â he asked.
âI was going for that look that says desperate secretary who hasnât gotten laid in the last year or so, and I figured you would get it because⌠you know, youâre the expert on such an aesthetic,â he looked at me so confused.
âIâm trying to look like you,â I annoyingly explained.Â
âOh awch, you must not be that sick then if you still have the energy to be such a bi-â before Akio could finish, Keigo glared at him from the passenger window daring him to finish that sentence. Akio swallowed his words nervously âBe nice to my baby bird, Akio, and make sure she gets to and from the doctorâs office safe,â Keigo demanded.Â
âYou got it, bird boss!â Akio confirmed, catching me teasingly giving him the bird from the rear view mirror out of Keigoâs view. He couldnât do shit about it because Keigo was watching him like a hawk.Â
âAlright Iâm off, you two stop fightingâ, Keigo stepped away from the car spreading his wings ready to take flight
âLove you babe!â I called, My voice quickly shifted to a childish one. Keigo winked at me before shooting off straight into the sky.Â
I arrived at the doctorâs office shortly to be attended right away at Keigoâs request, I guess dating the number two hero has its benefits. Dr. Cameda was one of the best physicians Japan had to offer and specialized in womenâs health. She went ahead and took my vitals and noticed my heart rate had been a little high along with my temperature.
âWhen was your last period?â she went ahead and asked me.Â
âUhm, well I canât quite remember to be exact... but now that I think about it I might actually be a little lateâ.
âAlright, let's go ahead and take a pregnancy test just to rule the possibility out.â
Pregnancy? It never even crossed my mind, but I guess itâs better to know now if anything.Â
She signed some papers, ordering a test to be done through blood samples just in case she needed to run other blood diagnostics if the test were to come back negative. A nurse came in and drew my blood and had me wait a while for my results to come through, and I began to feel nervous. âDo I want it to be positive?âÂ
I didn't know how to feel in the moment.Â
I never really saw myself having children, let alone winged children with the number two hero in all of Japan. I took a deep breath to ease my nerves. âWell, at least I'll know Iâm not dyingâ, I joked to myself. The sound of a knock interrupted my train of thought âCome inâ, I invited the doctor back.Â
âWell, congratulations Miss [Y/l/n], a baby seems to be the culprit,â she smiled. I looked at her confused. âYouâre pregnant! We can go ahead and schedule you for an ultrasound.âÂ
My mind was blank, muffling the sounds of Dr. Camedaâs voice as she proceeded to explain any further. I couldnât move or even speak. Was I having an anxiety attack?Â
âMiss [Y/l/n]?â Dr. Camedaâs voice snapped me back to reality. âDo you want to go ahead and schedule for an ultrasound?â she questioned again.Â
âUhm, just give me some time to think,â I said blankly, still having to process the situation.Â
âAlright, whenever you are ready, here's the number for our radiology department,â She said, handing me their business card. I headed back to the car âSo? Are you going to live?â Akio asked sarcastically.
âDepends on what your definition of living is,â I responded blankly âWhat is wrong with me? Shouldn't I be excited? I mean, I love Keigo, I want the family, big house, white wedding, but I guess I never saw it happening for me. Especially in my situationâ.Â
âHey, are you okay?â Akioâs voice changed from his usual bitchy sarcasm to the most serious tone I have ever heard come out of him.Â
âHaving to be stuck with you in a car for twenty minutes? One could only hope to turnout okay,â I joked, trying to hide my emotions with humor as always. Akio stood quiet for a second, examining me through the rearview mirror. âWhat? Don't go falling for me, now,â I continued joking, trying to ease the tension in the car. Akio let out a small chuckle.
âOh please, as if you are even my type. The only one who can put you in your place is the bird man himself,â He jabbed back and continued driving.
I got home exhausted throwing myself back onto bed face planted as I zoned out. I laid there lifelessly, thinking about the future. âWhat does this mean for Keigo? Will having a child only hinder his work? What if the child loses its father in battle? What if the commission wants to get their hands on this child as well? Would it even be fair to keep it? Should I even tell Kei? How do I even tell him? And what if THEY find out about the child?!âÂ
My mind suddenly caught up to me, running a hundred miles an hour. My heart began to palpitate as I curled up into a ball hiding under the covers shrinking myself deeper and deeper into Keigoâs sweater for comfort. My breath grew heavy at the thought, for any other couple this would be an exciting moment but these arenât normal circumstances for either Keigo or myself.Â
I took a deep breath, having done my breathing techniques riding out this episode as I normally would privately. Keigo has never seen me like this nor do I ever plan on letting him. I have to be strong for him just as he has been for all of Japan; I don't want to greaten his burdens. I waited for my heart rate to calm down, followed by breathing until I felt nothing once more. The smell of Keigoâs sweater helped put me at ease.Â
I slowly sat up in my dark lonely room. âIt always feels so cold without him hereâ. I reached over to my phone wanting to call him, but knowing he was a busy bird I didnât bother. If I was going to tell him, it wasnât going to be like this. Instead, I grabbed the business card Dr. Cameda handed to me out of my pocket and dialed the number on the card, âHello, I would like to make an appointment with radiology for an ultrasoundâ.Â
