Global Nutrition and Health: semester description
1st semester: This semester introduces key concepts from health, natural and social sciences, as well as humanities relevant for the understanding of the field of global nutrition and health. The main subjects are concepts of health and well-being, the global burden of disease and health inequalities, nutrition and dietary guidelines, physiology, biochemistry, sociology of food, and intercultural communication.
2nd semester: This semester focuses on health promotion, educational theory and practice, and research methods. Main subjects are health communication, health psychology, educational theory and practice, quantitative and qualitative methods.
3rd semester: This semester focuses on local and global sustainability to promote health and health equality for individuals, groups and communities. Main subjects are sustainability theory, food safety and hygiene, food security and political science.
4th semester: This semester focuses on nutrition and interventions targeting all at all ages in real life settings. Main subjects are lifespan nutrition, physical activity, planning and intervention theories and tools, and internship.

This semester focuses on project management with an innovative and entrepreneurial approach in a global health perspective. It examines how various scientific approaches and research methods can contribute to and complement each other when working with local, national or global projects and interventions.
This semester focuses on the promotion of public health in a local, national and global perspective. Public health nutrition issues serve as a foundation for the development and implementation of public health policies.
Knowledge, skills and competencies acquired throughout The Bachelor's Degree Programme in VIA Global Nutrition and Health are put into practice when working with academic assignments and during the internship.
This semester consists of two parts: an elective part and a bachelor project.
The elective part provides students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in areas relevant to the study area and of particular interest to the student. The education institution offers the course(s) to the students, but students can also plan a course or attend courses elsewhere in Denmark or abroad. Courses found elsewhere must be approved by VIA in order to be included in the programme.
In the bachelor project, the student must demonstrate the ability to choose and work with a self-selected profession relevant issue. The project must include relevant scientific methods, including relevant research-based literature.
Two weeks of internship must be included in the bachelor project and results from praxis must be included in the final report. The bachelor examination consists of a written and an oral part and can be worked out alone or in groups. It can be mono- or cross-disciplinary.
