Eternal — Sleep & Slowdive's cover of it.
One of the first musical projects that Christian Savill, the current guitarist of Slowdive, had was a band called Eternal, found in Reading, England in 1989. In 1990 the band released their first and last EP "Breathe", that consisted of only four tracks, after which Savill left for Slowdive.
One of the tracks on the EP was called "Sleep," which Slowdive later recorded a cover on, changing the lyrics to match their overall atmosphere. Rachel Goswell's voice made the song sound far more calm, gentle, and melodic. The lyrics talk about loving someone you could never be with, the heart-wrenching instrumental adding a deep sorrow in combination with the heartfelt vocals.
