VCS2 Spring 2016 SOLIMAN

For session 15, we will review your Project 3 Presentations (The LAUNCH: Voice and Impact). This will be either a website or video plus a social media component. Please see post below for DELIVERABLES and Submission/File Format Information for this Project.

Please be prepared to show your website/video on screen and discuss WHY you chose the media platform (either website or video) and social media platform (Insta/FB/Twitter, etc) and how you believe it was the best vehicle to deliver your message to your audience.

We will also review your Drawing/Illustration Explorations from this semester. As mentioned, you will select and print 2-3 samples of your work (minimum size page: LETTER). Please be sure to show a breadth/range of traditional and digital techniques/styles/media. Also, be sure to show a sample from Sketchbook (HOME exercises) as well as LIVE in-class MODEL drawings. These will be hung and presented and collected.

In addition, please be sure to upload/edit and organize your SKETCHBOOK/LIVE MODEL Drawing Folders, as well as your Process work for Grading (PROJECT 4).

Lastly, if you have your Printed Media piece, please bring it back to photograph (bring a GOOD camera!) OR to leave with me over the summer. These would all be ready to be returned in the Fall...just email and we’ll arrange it!

PROJECT 3 STUDIO:

Session 14 will be our last STUDIO class of the year. I will check in with each of you to review your progress towards your WEBSITE or VIDEO. The more content you have, the more meaningful feedback we can exchange regarding organization, sequence, layout, timing, and all related considerations. Remember that you can continue to refine, edit and enhance your content from PROJECTS 1 and 2!!! If you need to add more details, swap out an illustration, rethink creative collateral, etc, this will only serve to IMPROVE the quality of your WEBSITE/VIDEO content. Please take the time to curate and present written and visual elements that will communicate your concept/proposal in the clearest, most effective way possible.

***There is a possibility that we will have a GUEST EDITOR coming to join and review projects that are close to completion. This person is from the advertising field and could shed some very enlightening input and valuable perspective, but could only do so for projects that are close to completion. I will confirm either way via email once we see if schedule will allow***

SKETCHBOOK:

In your SKETCHBOOK for your Home Assignments (Sketches plus all design development, etc), do the following exercises listed below.

This week, for the Gesture and Full Body poses, use FREE CHOICE of media

(as per class exercises) GESTURES: (8 min total for 8 poses)

8 Sketches of Free Choice (either Analog or Digital) LOOSE, QUICK GESTURES of MALE or FEMALE FORM @ 1 min/each (4 min)

FULL BODY POSES: (40+min total for 4 poses)

4 PREVIOUSLY DRAWN sketches (analog/traditional) of  MALE/FEMALE model poses (full length), with FOCUS on BOTH SHAPE, TEXTURE as well as VARYING CONTOUR LINES. You may use the DIGITAL software of your choice to create a HYBRID sketch combining analog and digital artwork. (10-20 min/each so 40+ min total for 4 poses, depending)

Be sure to MIX it up and experiment in a variety of software, with a variety of different techniques/styles.

If you feel more comfortable creating a blocked figure as an “understructure”/TEMPLATE on a layer beneath, then please do so.

Be sure to MIX IT UP and experiment in a variety of software, with a variety of different techniques/styles.

Don’t forget to use online resources such as FREE brushes, WGSN digital library artwork and many other helpful tools/resources!!!

For those creating VIDEO:

Based on your hand-drawn STORY BOARD, move to the next phase by creating your DIGITAL storyboard (DUE Session 13), and include even more details/specifics around considerations such as:

-Music to be included in video

-Location/Props/Cast to be featured in video

-Still Images and Video content

-Art Direction

-Visual effects such as zooms/pans/transitions/timing, etc

Bring to class any content you have to start editing and organizing your video (including all stills/type/video clips) You will have STUDIO TIME during class to work on this, as well as to edit any previous work that will move forward and be included in the Video.

I will show Photoshop Video Editing Demos to those interested.

For those creating a WEBSITE/BLOG:

Based on your hand-drawn NAVIGATION MAP, move to the next phase by creating your DIGITAL Navigation Map, and include even more details/specifics around considerations such as:

-Categories (Menus/Submenus)

-Content (Still Images/Video/Motion)

-THEME/TEMPLATE options

-Art Direction

-Ease of Navigation/Access

Bring to class any content you have to start editing and organizing your website (including all images/written content/video clips) You will have STUDIO TIME during class to work on this, as well as to edit any previous work that will move forward and be included in the Website.

In your SKETCHBOOK for your Home Assignments (Sketches plus all design development, etc), do the following exercises listed below.

2-4 Sketches of MALE/FEMALE model poses (full length), with FOCUS on BOTH SHAPE, TEXTURE as well as VARYING CONTOUR LINES. You may use the DIGITAL software of your choice, based on REFERENCE. Include source image as embedded file.  (10-20 min/each so 20-80 min total for 2-4 poses, depending)

If you feel more comfortable creating a blocked figure as an “understructure”/TEMPLATE on a layer beneath, then please do so.

DIGITAL LINE/CONTOUR STUDIES (BRUSHES): (5+ min total)

In both AI and PS, create a page in each program, reflecting the WIDE BREADTH and VARIETY of LINE QUALITY you are able to create, using the full range of Media you currently have in your possession. Create a series of lines/Brushes, showing as much variation between thin to thick, light to dark (hard to soft) as possible, based on your hand movement, and hand pressure.  (5+ min)
