My Life My Story

For everyone that knows me or my family knows how much we love rescuing animals. #AdoptDontShop would definitely be my whole families theme. That being said I knew going into the Dominican Republic I would have to handle my own emotions and put up walls to the Street Dogs (cause lets be real I would totally want to rescue them all). Of course all it took was ONE DOG to send me over the edge... Meet Sandia...one of the faces of the Dominican Republic Street Dogs.

From Day 1 Sandia (named by Chelsea) was different. Brave & just wanting attention. You could totally tell that Sandia was used to people “petting” her with their shoes (since Mange runs wild) by the fact that loved curling up on everyone’s shoes. And yes of course she was a scavenger/beggar at lunch time but also loved to just sleep inside by the people who took an interest in her.

So needless to say leaving her did a doozy on me. I think it was truly the fact that Sandia still had a trusting spirit that was not molded into the typical “street dog” mentality. But what could I do? Of course I want to rescue her BUT how could I. Well one thing I can do is support a local group that is working to sterilize & get adoptions for these beautiful faces. AND adding another fabulous rescue organization doesn’t hurt right? Meet the Dogs & Cats of the Dominican Republic.

Quite honestly I still don’t know how or what I can or will do about Sandia. I will always help local rescues like Dallas Pets Alive (who saved my baby girl Caramel for me) & over seas like SoiDog. But seriously this face still haunts me... #nuffsaid

For my first blog post I wanted to do something on the amazing men and women of El Circulo who we met this past week & worked along side us in Cotui. They took off work to help us drive 2 hours each way, daily...and then joined us on our rooftop for fellowship every night. YES there was a small language barrier in the beginning, but between our AMAZING bilingual members (Creekwood, El Circulo, & Endeavor), Google Translate (oh yes it proved to be WAY helpful), and GOD the barrier just became is thing, not an issue. From van rides to Bachata lessons to the Playa Juan Dolio Republica Dominicana... I am so thankful and blessed to become friends with everyone! And am inspired to get back on track learning Spanish :)
