When we get close to Ligia, and she reveals her skin to the Sovereign as a show of trust, equality, and love, the first thing the Sovereign does is say her skin is beautiful.

It's so simple. So short. But very effective.

The fact that it is our black lady who experiences this is so significant. The obvious reality they have to live with becomes a symbolic plot point that highlights beauty, elegance, and tender trust.
