âPeculiar, isnât it?â He chuckled then shrugged his shoulders. âMust have been something to do with eventually deciding I didnât mind being chased.â Severus took her hand after that and gently squeezed, glancing away from her when a nervous chuckle escaped.
Her question caused his eyebrows to furrow together, uncertain about what sort of answer she was expecting from him. âEnough to at least hold your hand out of here and flirt with you over lunch?â The question caused a slight flush to appear on his cheeks. He was rarely that forward when it came to talking. Having managed to get the thought out without stammering or rushing through words was a miracle.
âThatâs a start.â She laughed for a moment, looking away rom him as someone greeter her as they walked by. She gave them a nod and a playful wink - the typical Emma Vanity acknowledgment. Her attention turned back to Severus as they walked hand in hand. She knew people were staring. Men were staring. And if Severus was noticing, she was impressed with how well he was ignoring it. âSo where exactly is it that weâre going for lunch? I mean I suppose we could eat in the Ministry Cafeteria but I wouldnât do that to an enemy let alone you.â She chuckled a little bit, tugging his hand for a second so that it pulled him close. âCould get carry out and find a better way to fill the time.â She wiggled her eyebrows at him suggestively. âCould skip lunch and get something sweet and ind a clever way to make it sweeter.â

His teeth dug into his lower lip when she stepped forward, an eyebrow rising up at the close proximity between them. Her words had registered but his thoughts immediately turned toward regretting not having turned his head so he could catch her lips with his own. âSuppose I were to properly ask you out?â He asked in a whisper, acting as though he hadnât said anything when he caught her raised eyebrow.
âI was in the area,â Severus shrugged. Definitely a lie but she had come to mind and he didnât mind the idea of lurking a little to see if she had been serious about grabbing lunch. âOff early so I figured why not do lunch with someone I enjoy spending time with.â
Emma let out a full laugh as she registered his words in her head. âEnjoy spending time with? Might I remind you that until only a few measly days ago, you spent the vast majority o our time together ignoring and avoiding my presence?â She couldnât help but nd humor in the irony. Years and Years of chasing him, only to watch him run, had boiled into this. âThatâs quite a change of attitude, isnât it? funny how that seems to happen.â Her eyes danced across the large and crowded room as she contemplated an actual response to his question. âI suppose the true response depends. How much grandeur do you have in you, baby?â She grinned at him. âI like a show.â

when: July 21st 1978 with: Emma Vanity ( @vanityofsnakesâ )
Alecto announced herself with a yawn. The latest Death Eater gathering hadnât been exciting nor informative, so she left in a hurry, going after her best friend. Dismissing the glares others shot her way, Alecto yanked one arm around the other, pressing her hip against hers. âBetween us girlsââ Alecto continued with a grin âit might be considered treason, but Iâm bloody tired of waiting, meeting up in secret â and for what?â In fact, the Dark Lordâs reign had to start as soon as possible or else Alecto had to return to the idea of marriage. âAlas, weâre the backbone of this wretched institution. Oh, please tell me you had anything planned for today. Get me out of here.â
She felt the dynamic presence of her best friend before she ever heard or saw her. She was entirely unstartled by the touch and pull. âAnother night wasted in planning instead of doing.â She rolled her eyes. This seemed to be a constant issue lately. The Dark Lord was yet to want to do much- biding his time, growing his forces. Emma and Alecto were always ready to move now, and always annoyed and full of pent up energy when denied the chance. âIf itâs treason than Iâll have to go out as a traitor along side you. Maybe one of these days weâll actually see some sort of forward movement in the purification of magic.â She rolled her eyes and looked towards her friend. âMy plan is to continue work on my newest curse. Iâd like to trial it on the vermin of course, but alas, until then, I have conjured fakes. Not nearly as fun as the real thing.â

Severus dug his teeth into his lower lip to keep from fully grinning at her. It was rather hard to avoid since he liked being around her but that wasnât exactly anything new. He made a face then chuckled and shook his head.
âExcuse me,â He scoffed.âWhat part of my memo implied it was a date?â It was a slightly sarcastic quip but he was truly curious since he had only asked if she wanted to do lunch. âI mean Iâm willing to pay if you want but Iâm still curious.â
Emmaâs lips curled into a smirk, and she looked over each of her shoulders before taking a bold step towards him. Her hand slid under his robes and gripped his waist as her lips found his ear to whisper. âSpending a night buried inside me, and then asking me to a meal a few days later seems awfully date like, lover.â She snickered softly and pressed a kiss to his neck before pulling back and offering her hand instead. Briefly, she wasnât sure if he would take it, and she didnât like the budding anxiety at the thought. âWhat are you doing here anyways?â She raised an eyebrow. âHardly the place I would expect to find you spending your time. Most wise men avoid the ministry i they donât work in it.â A part of her wondered if he had specifically come for her. Had he been thinking of her? She didnât want to waste time on such silly thoughts though, scolding herself for even beginning to care about those frivolities.Â

Spur the moment time off was something that was a rarity since Severus enjoyed his job. The owner insisted on his going out and enjoying the nice weather and offered to close the shop up - truly an act of kindness that left Severus confused. He took that chance though and sent Emma a message asking if she wanted to get lunch at him at one of the cafes that was by the Ministry, saying he would meet her in the atrium if she was up to it. The yes in reply had him dropping by his flat to change out of his work clothes and put on something a little less professional looking.
It wasnât a date. He simply had a feeling she would make fun of him if he showed up in his work robes with his hair disheveled and greasy from having spent the morning brewing potions.
Severus was left leaning against a pillar in the atrium of the Ministry while he waited for Emma to appear. He ran his hand through his hair while he waited and swept the longer pieces to one side, standing up straight when he spotted her. âI was half expecting you to say no, you know that?â He chuckled and cast a sideways glance at her. His teeth dug into his lower lip to keep from nervously rambling, giving her the chance to speak instead of needing to hear him anxiously go off about how his day was.
The moment that a memo had appeared in her office, Emmaâs attention had been caught. It was a particularly slow day, and she wasnât really expecting any communications. of course, that only meant that whatever it was was likely important and/or exciting. She raised her eyebrows as it flew onto her desk, reading it with a chuckle. Men. They were all the same sometimes. What was different about today was her- the fact that she found herself scribbling yes onto the parchment to send back. It wasnât long after that she finally broke away and made towards the atrium. She found him leaning casually and waiting for her. âI half considered doing so.â She teased lightly. âI donât often accept dates that take place durng daylight. Theyâre much less fun than the other kind, typically.â She nudged him lightly, playful smirk on her face.Â

Perhaps Marlene enjoyed impulse buying but she did not enjoy the guilt she felt afterwards. Especially since her and Lily were opting to buy an apartment together. Purchasing a new leather jacket would not be the best purchase but it would sure as hell suit her. What was really the harm in it? A small laugh as she shook her head lightly. âThis ainât just an average leather jacket, Itâs beautiful. I believe itâs perfectly acceptable to be lusting over clothes.âÂ
âFine men, yesâŠâ Marlene smiled, turning slightly to face the girl. Her attention drifting from the jacket. âFine Wine? Not my thing, Iâm more of a vodka and lemonade girl but thatâs just my preference.âÂ
âWell if you find that sort of thing acceptable than by all means, continue to drrol over apparel.â She shrugged. âMeanwhile, I think that if youâve not developed a taste for wine, youâre simply having the wrong ones.â She snickered softly, tosing her black hair over her shoulder. âNot that vodka and other hard liqours donât often have their appeal. I am never quite so free of lip or spirit than when Iâve had a good s trong drink.â

Eyes narrowed slightly, but a smile ( soft, understanding, as if it could hide Emma had caught her interest ) was still on her lips, in contrast with Emmaâs much more devious smirk. The brunette was good, there was no doubt about that â Feeding her just enough information to ensure the blonde would want to play nice and share the reasons of her coming here further, but not enough to imply anything genuinely meaningful ( though there might be, and it was this might that got Narcissa to speak next ). And so Narcissa pursed her lips, tapped her chin, considered. A perfectly rehearsed show she had put on more than once and that Emma was no doubt accustomed to. « As I am sure you are aware, certain written laws are not quite to our tastes â Stifling wording, really. In light of recent events which put all of our community at risk, » the ball, Narcissa meant the ball. « it seemed like now would be a good time to remind the Wizengamot of those necessary changes⊠» Voice trailed off, as if to signal that there was more, that this could go deeper. The blonde hadnât decided yet if she wanted to tell more than that. Instead: « Who would your instincts assume needs you ? All in pure speculation, of course. »
âAnd who exactly sit that you speak for, Narcissa?â She raised an eyebrow. Was the girl speaking to laws that offended her family, or her community, or the Dark Lord himself? âI believe that there are wizarding laws that are quite unsuitable for everyone on occasion.â She knew that the lead in was meant to grab her attention. It was a game she had played with the blonde in front of her for many years. âI think we both know who might want to put my skills to use for tasks that are better left unspoken, do we not?â She shook her head, as if she couldnât quite say something. âI believe that maybe a task needs carried out for the betterment of our society and I may be the one to preform it.â She smiled. She was more than happy to be a foot soldier while Narcissa played around in politics.

âI had to run away from my father before I did something I might regret later,â Polaris said. âHe keeps introducing me to the sons of his friends. He think I donât know what heâs doing but itâs clear,â she took a sip of her drink. âHe wanted to establish connections and the best way to do that is for me to get engaged as soon as possible, but mother will not let that happen. She will kill my dad if that means getting what she wants and those are my wishes as well. I will not be sold like cattle. Iâm his heir, his only child. Mother will not give him more and she will not want for him to keep me away from whatâs rightfully mine.â She had heard a few words exchanged between her parents when it came to shuts and some hexes here and there. Bellatrix loved her daughter too much and when she understood that connections had to be made, she did not want to put that much pressure on her, she was so young. âSo?âPolaris smiled at Arabella. âHow was your night with the Mclaggen boy? Thereâs rumors that he just uses girls and then just moves on to the next one, looking for conquests.â
Arabellaâs face twisted and controted with disdain. âYou know my loyalty to our blood is strong, but so many of the aincient principles simple disgust me. Iâm quite glad that my mothere and father would never try such horrendous things.â She shook her head. Her parents were among the luck few int heir social circles that were truly in love and happy. She was grateful for it, for it meant that they would allow the same for t heir child, not force her into something for the sake of money or connections. âLets simply say that we used each other and call it that, shall we?â She smirked, eyebrows wiggling. âHe used me a little but he let me use him back, and he certainly has no lack of skills.â She laughed a little, summoning herself a drink.Â
severus-tobiasâ:
âI could never,â Severus whispered. Emotions were threatening to break through. The mask was one he wore all too easily but it was slipping now that Emma was in his arms. She had always been the exception to his emotions and he had a feeling she could see right through him.
âI donât want you back there,â He murmured. It took a lot to admit that - far more than he expected since it left him holding his breath. A chuckle escaped after she mentioned James and he shook his head. âWe certainly didnât need another one. Iâll admit the teen shows some promise but the Dark Lord is set on exploiting how much he cares.â He pressed his lips to her forehead after that and sighed. âI will have to bring you there.â The place was well protected since he had hit a point of trusting a limited amount of people. âI would offer my quarters at Hogwarts but thatâs too much of a risk.â He couldnât imagine doing something that landed her (or both of them) back in Azkaban.
âWell.â She smiled. âI hate to thin what 15 years of celibacy must have done to your stamina then, my love.â She teased, but the tone of her voice was half of what it should have been. It was laced with emotional exhaustion and quiet desperation. Her need to be with him was finally able to be fulfilled and years of longing for his arms seemed to slip away. She wasnât sure she would ever be able to pry her arms from around him again. âI donât want to be, I assure you. But you must know that weâre on the brink of war once again. Weâve been freed from azkaban for a reason, and I can hardly turn my back on Him now, can I?â She pulled Severusâs lips to her own for a long kiss. âI donât think Hogwarts is a safe place, youâre quite right.â She murmured against his lips as she leaned back to flat feet. âBut Spinners end is the closest thing to home with you that there is. So thatâs the only place I belong for now. And I trust youâll be with me as often as your post will allow it.

Remus nodded, having already noticed the stark differences in writing quality between some of his students. He could easily separate them by what sort of education they had before Hogwarts. The fact that they were fourth years and he could still make those comparisons troubled him but that was Professor Binnsâ area and it wasnât his place to criticise. He knew there would be no changing the ghostâs ways now. An eyebrow raised as she changed the topic, nodding just once in response. âI would hardly say fairly well. She was a couple of years older than me and a Slytherin where I was a Gryffindor. I would say the House rivalries back then were even stronger than they are now. You might get further with Professor Snape. I believe he knew her better than I.â As they had both been Death Eaters, Remus thought drily. While he trusted Dumbledore enough to believe that Snape had been a turncoat, he was still certain of the side he had started on. As for Emma, he hadnât had much reason to suspect her during the war but the arrest spoke for itself and it was certainly easier for him to envisage than Sirius. With him on his mind, more than Emma, he said, âI can tell you that we were at war and wars change people in ways you can never imagine.â
Arabella leaned forward on her elbows, soaking in what the professor was sayng with a curious, yet somehow mischievous look upon here face. âHow much better?â She raised an eyebrow at him, wondering if he might be able to tell her if there was any truth to the rumors she had heard. âWas professor Snape particularly close with my mother?â She tilted her head as she saw Lupin look moree and more distant in thought. âI imagine it does. Hard decisions around every corner when your life or your beliefs are challenged.â She hummed softly. âProfessor, did you know my father? Iâve heard so many rumors, I only want to know if you knew him. You donât have to tell me who he is if you know - I know that you may find that not your place. Iâm just curious as to if you knew him. Were he and my mother together for long? Does he know I exist?â She pressed her lips together. The way people whispered about her mother and Snape made it sound a lot more serious than a one night stand.Â

Severus was gaping - certainly not an expression the potioneer regularly wore when teaching - and struggling to find something to say. It wasnât often that one of his students managed to outwit his potion notes but his own daughter had managed to do so. It would have been a notable feat if it wasnât someone directly related to him. He couldnât disguise the feeling of pride that was taking over, a slight smile forming over his lips once he finally found the words he was looking for. âWould it be egregious if I made it fifteen points?â He paused and stooped down to get a better view of the potion, seemingly impressed. âHow much messing around with it did that take?â
âIf only the other students could see the look on your face right now, you might lose your title of the grumpiest teacher on staff.â She teased and continued to stir her cauldron, waiting for the steam to turn the perfect shade of purple. âWho would I be to argues with more points?â She laughed and looked up at him, wide green eyes exactly like her motherâs. âProbably more than you would have approved of but i thought it better to ask forgivness than permission. and in my defense, I did not blow up a single thing in the process.â She shrugged her shoulders. She knew the danger that came with magical experimentation, but largely didnât care.Â

Her jaw clenched at Arabellaâs words â Though it was not out of anger or annoyance but out of fear. The brunette had been placed under her care, her roof, her watch, and yet the mark on her forearm was a testament of how immensely Narcissa had failed her, too. The fact she was left in the dark about Dracoâs mission had been a small mercy ( a confirmation that the Dark Lord did not hold the sins of the Malfoys over the girlâs head, at least ) that she would not have expected Arabella to understand. But how could she explain that yes, Arabella was far too young to be pushed in all of this ( and Draco was, too ) without risking sounding treacherous. Her lips thinned in resignation, but the eyes that met Arabellaâs had the same protective and understanding glance she had for her son. « The answer is in your own words, Arabella. » Draco was being forced. This, the teenager had gotten right. « I wouldnât expect you to understand why weâre leaving you in the dark â or to like it â but perhaps you could consider that this is something Draco himself should choose to talk about, in his own time. » Sheâs gotten closer then, hand softly going to tuck a strand of Arabellaâs hair back in place ( a gesture she had done many times before. Arabella might have been Emmaâs daughter by blood, but she had also been Narcissaâs in any way she felt mattered ). « Youâre both so young, » too young, « give yourself the time to enjoy that. Youâll be old enough before you know it. » Unfortunately, and in a way the blonde would not be able to stop.Â
âDraco seems to be under the impression that heâs unable to speak to anyone, including me. Which ought to be complete and utter rubbish, having him carry out some order that heâs not even allowed to speak of with his own household.â Her anger was clear, though she didnât really think it was meant to be directed at Narcissa. It was more fear for the only person she truly knew as a sibling, and desire to be kept in the loop with her family. âYou lot seem to know everything. Am I part of this family or am i not?â There was a painful challenge in her eyes as they flipped back and forth between Lucius and Narcissa. she had finally gotten to meet her mother after the breakout last year, but it had been brief, as her mother was recaptured only months later. Still, the brief meeting had stirred something in Arabella, making her far more feisty and full of attitude than usual. âweâre at war already, we all know itâs true. I am either a soldier or a victim, but I will not be a bystander.â

werewolfboiâ:
Remus was still not used to Full Moons on Wolfsbane potion. He felt less aware of the Moon looming over him, pulling at him from the inside, but the disgusting medicine seemed to only make the nausea beforehand worse. Apparently that would fade, the longer he was on the potion, though he wasnât sure where that theory had come from as very few werewolves in Britain had consistent access to it. Back when he was a student, he would have pushed through the day two nights before the Moon would turn Full with no issues. He had become used to it. Years of barely doing anything had made him weaker, though, and now it was a struggle to think he had to go to classes. Dumbledore had told him to just say if he needed a substitute but Remus was trying to limit that as much as he could. Six out of seven year groups were horrifically behind in Defence Against the Dark Arts and he didnât want to disrupt their education any more.
The fourth years fell somewhere in the middle of his worries â not as high as the fifth and seventh years who had exams to consider, nor as high as the second year Gryffindors who were behind in every subject thanks to the events that had befallen two of their own and distracted the rest in their first year, but certainly higher than the first years and also the sixth years who had managed to get onto the Defence N.E.W.T. course despite the ineptitude of their O.W.L. teacher. He was happy to see most of them were keen to learn and that was reinforced by arriving early to the classroom and finding one student already at her desk.
âI appreciate the concern, Arabella,â he said, letting out a low chuckle. When Remus had first started teaching, he had used his studentâs first names to make a point that he would not be judging them on who their parents were. However much she looked like her mother, Remus had to remind himself that she was not destined to end up in the same place and that as Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, he could be in a position to influence that. âI assure you between the Matron and the Potions Master, I have all I need. You are early, today. Did you have questions about the essay?â
âI donât.â She shrugged. âIt was particularly clear in instruction, I think Iâll manage, though Iâm far better in practice than I am on paper.â She hummed and leaned back a little too casually in her chair, letting her dark hair fall behind her back as she looked about the room. âProfessor Lupin.â She addressed him with cunning intereest in her eyes, like she was determined to get answers to questions she hadnât asked yet. âYou would have been heree eat Hogwarts right about the same time my mother was, wouldnât you have?â She raised an eyebrow at him. She knew precious little about her parents, and had finally reeached an age wheree she was seeking more and more information. âI have to them assume you knew her. Fairly well, Iwould wager a guess.â She raised a challenging eyebrow at him. âCould you tell me something about her? My Aunt Cissy tells me precious little. I think it makes her sad to do so, though Iâm not sure. All I know is that when I mention my biological parentage, she gets incredibly thin lipped.â
