embarrassment because despite the two being well versed with the internet they drew the line at online dating, or friends, or any other kind of digital connection bullshit. before college seth was always kinda an asshole about the idea. “that’s the kinda stuff reserved for basement dwelling virgins.” well until now. cause, yknow.

seth calling evan occasionally in the name of l homework assistance despite the two going into different majors. whenever calls aren’t frequent enough for seth he’ll claim he needs help with his homework. that’s why he called. cause he’ll be totally fucked if he can’t figure out this assignment. totally not because he misses his best friend, and not just because he wants the days back where he could copy off of evan for answers.

back to back calling at that. if evan doesn’t pick up when seth is in a particularly antsy mood to talk he’ll just repeatedly blow up evan’s phone till he picks up. yet still embarrassed to just outwardly admit it’s been too many days since they last talked

seth, who will always stop by evan’s favorite comic book and gaming store to see if they have anything evan might like. if they do seth will buy it, show it off to evan to gloat, and when evan shows interest in whatever it is seth happened to bag, he’ll be so kind as to offer to send it to evan so he can ‘borrow’ whatever geek shit it is. as if it wasn’t bought with the sole purpose of giving it to evan the whole time.

days seem to past by much quicker when you aren’t stuck on a strict schedule like high school provides. at first it’s weird to adjust to the feeling that you regained 8 hours of your day that were previously reserved for school, where you had no say in your schedule and no say in how to spend that time. it makes it easier for the days to slip by and for the time between the two’s interactions to grow farther and farther apart

evan who becomes quite the photographer over time at college. using the camera of his shitty iphone 4 to take pictures throughout new experiences. going hiking with some classmates, d&d nights, or just stopping to take a picture of sunset while he goes on his nightly wanders. yes it’s sappy and sentimental, he knows that. which is why he never texts follow up explanations for sending a bunch of random photos to seth right before he sleeps. every time evan witnesses something interesting he can’t help but think of seth. how he’d react, how great it would be if seth was there with him. how he doesn’t want seth to miss out on things happening around him.

evan and seth who watch pirated films together on call. one time they picked out what they assumed to be a bad, unserious horror movie just in hopes of finding something entertaining. turned out the movie wasn’t as poor quality as they had expected. a jumpscare appeared on screen and successful had the two flinching and hollering with surprise. so successful that evan ended up waking up fogell. after that the two decided it was probably best they start their watch parties before midnight

evan who gets increasingly more nervous day after day if it’s been more than a week since they’ve talked but is always nervous to make the first move

seth who makes the hour and a half drive at least once a month to visit evan. even if he has other important shit that he knows needs to get done. even if his mom complains that the willing abruptness to stop everything around him for a day or two trip just to see evan. even if they spend the whole time just hanging out in evan’s dorm or leaving the bars early cause the crowds are dead and full of obnoxious hollering frat douche bags
