It isn't so much that I don't like them as individuals, but it irks me the same way a vampire would irk you. Like, you can be the nicest elf on the planet but you can't look at Elrond and not think about all the stuff he's probably seen, the extinct creatures that he saw alive and thriving, the saplings that grew into several-hundred-year-old trees. Greenland sharks are swimming around that were around in the 1600's, and Legolas is older than that. Deadass mildly horrific.
